September 11, 2016 The Twenty-Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time Introit Antiphon Liturgy of the Word St. Andrew Parish, a Roman Catholic community, seeks to nurture the faith and serve the needs of parishioners and visitors by proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ through active stewardship, ministries of word and sacrament, programs of Christian formation, and works of charity and justice. GUIDELINES FOR THE RECEPTION OF HOLY COMMUNION As Catholics, we fully participate in the celebration of the Mass when we receive Holy Communion, the true Body and Blood of the Lord. Yet, we Catholics should receive Holy Communion only when we are living in communion with the Catholic Church and in the state of sanctifying grace and have made the appropriate fast from food and drink. Because of the connection we draw between being in full communion with the Catholic Church and receiving Holy Communion, we cannot invite those who are not Catholic to share in Holy Communion with us. Still, we welcome all to this celebration of the Mass as our brothers and sisters, and pray that our common baptism and the action of the Holy Spirit will one day draw us closer “…that all may be one.” (John 17:22) 2 Readings (Exodus 32:7-11,13-14 & 1 Timothy 1:12-17).999 Psalmody…....................................................Psalm 51 I will rise and go to my father. Available for purchase in the Gift Shop before and after Mass Bishop Robert Barron sheds light on the Seven Deadly Sins - those great spiritual blocks that inhibit our relationship with God and others - and the antidote to them, the Seven Lively Virtues. Bishop Barron uses Dante's Divine Comedy to expose these sinful patterns in our lives and show how they are effectively counteracted by the cultivation of virtue through the development of the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Listen to this CD while driving to work or doing chores, then pass it along to bless someone else. Our eighth grade homeroom teacher, Ms. Prochaska, completed her Ph.D program in higher education this summer at The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. Ms. Prochaska's dissertation focused on children's perceptions of God after the death of an immediate family member. Her study suggests that children who have a faith background appear to cope with grief better than those who do not. She also found distinctive differences in the ways boys and girls perceive God. She defended her dissertation in June and finished her course of study with a 3.98 GPA. Ms. Savageau, our 7th grade homeroom teacher, and Mrs. Tucker, our 6th grade homeroom teacher, both took courses at Limestone University this summer focusing on technology in the classroom. They were introduced to several iPad APPS appropriate student learning specific to their classroom subjects. Both were asked to develop lesson plans using these iPad APPS. Finally, many of our teachers participated in workshops offered by the Literacy Council, focusing on print disabilities and teaching students with the Sue Barton method of instruction. We are proud of all of our faculty. They continue to enhance their own learning in order to provide a quality education for our students. Warmly, Debbie Wilfong, Principal PARISH REGISTRATION Welcome! It is a great joy to welcome new members to our parish community. One of the greatest achievements of Pope John Paul II was the promulgation of the Catechism of the Catholic Church. This Catechism will serve as the standard for all future catechisms. “A sure norm for teaching the Faith”, as the Pope said. Please take and study this Catechism in your own home. This Catechism costs $5.00 each. Inside the front cover of each book you will find an ENVELOPE as follows: Dear Sister or Brother in Christ: This Catechism of the Catholic Church is a most handy summary of the Faith that we profess as Christians. We hope you will take it to your home and read it. We would thank you for helping out with the costs of this ministry - at $5.00 for each copy of this Catechism if you are able to donate that amount (or more, or less) by placing your donation in this envelope and then into the collection basket. Be blessed in the study of your Catechism. PARKING CHURCH PARKING: See the green NO PARKING: See the red. No parking is allowed on either side of the 37th Street from the REC to Oak Street.
