El importe de la cifra de deudores
sigue aumentando, siguiendo la
tendencia general de la economía,
aunque en menor medida que otros
sectores. Para combatir este aumento
de la morosidad, la administración de
la urbanización está trabajando con
todas sus fuerzas, en algunos casos la
solución llega con acuerdos de pago
y en otros mediante la vía judicial.
Preferimos los acuerdos de pago, ya
que no suponen un incremento de la
deuda para los que se retrasan en él,
evitando así las costas del
procedimiento. Es difícil predecir
exactamente como se comportaran los
cobros y pagos a largo plazo, pero
pensamos que en lo que respecta al
futuro próximo llegaremos a la meta
propuesta en cuanto a los cobros se
refiere.
Hemos impuesto restricciones
limitadas en todos los gastos no vitales
para nuestro funcionamiento, estas
restricciones se mantendrán hasta que
veamos una mejora en los cobros de
cuotas, Esto no puede ser leído o
interpretado como una señal de
desesperación sino más bien una
medida de precaución para evitar
posibles desajustes insalvables.
Como siempre agradecemos su

TREASURY
The members' debt is still rising,
following the general financial
tendency, though by less than in other
sectors. The administration of the
urbanisation is working very hard to
fight against this debtor increase and
has succeeded to some extent via
partial payment agreements and by
legal means. We prefer payment
agreements as they don't involve an
increase of the debt for those who
have delayed payments as the legal
costs of a procedure are avoided. It is
difficult to predict what the future
holds but our judgement now is that
we will reach our goal for the year in
terms of cash and collection.
We have implemented limited
restrictions on all expenditure not vital
for our operation until we see signs
of improvement in collection and
members' debt. This is not a sign of
desperation but merely a measure of
precaution.
As always we appreciate your
cooperation in prompt payment and
take this opportunity to offer our
cooperation in signing payment
agreements when there is a lack of
immediate funds to avoid having to
take legal action.

AGUA
WATER
Ciertamente ha sido un invierno muy húmedo, llovía día
tras día, mes tras mes, hasta que se batieron todos los
récords anteriores de lluvia. Desafortunadamente la lluvia,
que ha sido beneficiosa en muchos aspectos, también ha
causado daños en propiedades privadas además de en las
infraestructuras, algunas calles de Sitio de Calahonda se
han tenido que reparar por hundimientos y otros defectos.
En muchos apartamentos se han inundado los balcones
por la constante lluvia, aunque también en parte por la
falta de mantenimiento, es necesario la limpieza ocasional
de los mismos para que no se atoren, así como, es
aconsejable la revisión anual de tejados para evitar posibles
goteras por fallos en las tejas.
La buena noticia es que los embalses de la provincia de
Málaga están llenos, incluso se han tenido que desaguar
miles de litros al mar para evitar que los embalses reventaran
causando graves inundaciones. Mientras que estas son
buenas noticias para el futuro próximo, pueden no serlo
tanto a la larga. ¿Los proyectos que había para agrandar
la capacidad de alguno de los embalses se llevarán a cabo?
¿Y el proyecto para una nueva desaladora para Mijas se
aplazará?
La desaladora de Marbella ya ha dejado de funcionar debido
a la cantidad de agua que hay en los embalses. La planta
procesadora dejó de producir agua para su distribución en
abril y no empezará otra vez hasta agosto. Han dejado siete
trabajadores en esa planta pues seria más costoso volver
a ponerla en funcionamiento, por tanto la dejan en marcha
al ralentí, el personal sobrante ha pasado a ACOSOL. Se
ha publicado en los periódicos que va a haber una reducción
en las facturas domésticas de agua por este motivo. Se ha
calculado que si utiliza 25 metros cúbicos de agua ahorrará
unos 3 euros.
It most certainly has been a very wet winter, the rain kept
falling day after day, month after month until it broke all
previous records for rainfall. Unfortunately the rain caused
a lot of damage to individual properties as well as the
infrastructure, including some of the roads within Sitio de
Calahonda that required repair. We heard that many
apartments with balconies became flooded because of the
constant rainfall, this was due in part to the lack of
maintenance. If you have a balcony with a drain, it is
necessary to clean it out occasionally as it can become
blocked by sand etc. It is also advisable to check roofs for
broken or damaged slates to avoid leaks.
The good news is that all of the reservoirs in the Province
of Malaga are full, in fact millions of litres of water had
to be released into the sea to stop the dams from bursting.
Whilst this is good news for the short term future it might
not be so in the long run. Will the projects that were in
hand to increase the capacity of some of the reservoirs still
take place and will the project for a new desalination plant
in Mijas now be placed on the back burner?
The desalination plant in Marbella has already stopped
working because of the amount of water in the reservoirs.
The processing plant stopped producing water for
distribution in April and will not start again until the end
of August. Only seven workers remain at the plant to keep
it ticking over and the rest are working on other duties
with Acosol. We have read that there should be a reduction
in the domestic water bills due to this fact. It had been
quoted that if you use 25 cubic metres you will save around
3 euros.

Habrán observado que el último recibo del agua viene
girado por Mancomunidad, esto no supone ningún cambio
de compañía ya que Acosol depende de la Mancomunidad
de Municipios de la Costa del Sol.
Recordarles que el retraso en le pago de los recibos puede
acarrear un tanto por ciento de penalización así como el
corte del servicio.

Agua reciclada
El Ministerio de Medio Ambiente ha dado su aprobación
a la creación de 14 Km. de tuberías que partiendo de la
planta recicladora de agua (Cerros del Águila) suministraría
a la mayoría de los campos de golf y parques públicos
tanto de Mijas como de Fuengirola. Se calcula que esta
fuente alternativa de agua ahorrará 5.4 hectómetros cúbicos
de agua al año. El coste de esta inversión inicial es de 6.7
millones de euros y el proyecto ya ha comenzado.
Contemplará cinco ramificaciones de tuberías que llegarán
a los campos de golf de Los Lagos, Santana, Los Olivos,
La Manzanilla y Altavista (Mijas) además de la zona de
la boca del río Fuengirola cerca del Castillo Sohail. Las
tuberías tendrán una capacidad máxima de 0.295 metros
cúbicos por segundo. Esperamos que otras zonas como El
Chaparral y Cerro del Águila se beneficien también de este
agua reciclada. También se usará este agua para limpiar
las calles tanto en Fuengirola como en Mijas poniendo fin
al uso de agua potable para este fin, como se ha venido
haciendo hasta ahora.
MEDIOAMBIENTE
Como todos los años se está llevando a cabo una limpieza
especifica en zonas verdes para prevenir incendios de
acuerdo con el plan de incendios de nuestra urbanización.
Nuestra urbanización tiene 600.000 metros cuadrados de
zonas verdes que pretendemos que nuestros vecinos respeten
y disfruten. La limpieza de las mismas se concreta en hacer
cortafuegos, limpiar el perímetro de la urbanización,
limpieza de cunetas y márgenes de calles, inspección en
profundidad de las bocas de incendio... Este plan se entrega
al Ayuntamiento, los bomberos y la Guardia Civil para
incluirlo en el plan prevención de incendios de Mijas.
Durante la primavera se ha hecho especial hincapié en la
limpieza, poda, entresaca y eliminación de especies
invasoras en la zona verde que se encuentra entre las calles
Málaga y Av. de España, se ha realizado una magnifica
labor a un coste bastante económico.
Queremos trasladar a los vecinos de nuestra urbanización
que la Secretaría de Estado de Cambio Climático, organismo
Recycled Water
The Ministry of the Environment has given its approval
to the creation of 14 kms of pipeline that will start from
the regeneration waste water plant (Cerro del Aquila) to
supply golf courses and public parks of both Mijas and
Fuengirola. It is estimated that this alternative source of
water will save 5.4 cubic hectometres per year. The cost
of this initial investment is set at 6.7 million euros and the
project has already started. It will involve the provision of
five branches of pipelines that will reach the golf courses
of Los Lagos, Santana, Los Olivos, La Manzanilla and
Altavista (Mijas) as well as the environment at the mouth
of the River Fuengirola, near the castle Sohail. The pipes
will be capable of transporting a maximum flow of 0.295
cubic metres per second. It is hoped that other areas such
as El Chaparral and Cerro del Aguila will benefit from the
use of this recycled water. This water will also be used to
clean the streets in both Fuengirola and Mijas putting an
end to the use of drinking water for such purposes.
ENVIRONMENT
As we do every year, we are carrying out a specific cleaning
programme in green areas to prevent fires according to the
fire prevention plan of our urbanisation. Our urbanisation
has 600.000 square metres of green areas which we intend
our neighbours to respect and enjoy. The cleaning of the
same are based on firebreaks, cleaning of the perimeter of
the urbanisation, cleaning gullies and the sides of the roads,
inspection of the fire hydrants, etc. This plan is handed
over to the Town Hall, Fire-Brigade and Guardia Civil for
it to be included on the Mijas fire plan.
During the springtime we have enforced the cleaning,
pruning and removal of invasive species in the green area
between calle Málaga and Avda. De España. A magnificent
job has been carried out at a very low cost.

Medidas preventivas y de actuación en caso de incendios.
La mayoría de los incendios se producen por descuidos,
negligencias o son provocados intencionadamente. También
se producen por causas naturales, como por un rayo. Por
lo tanto, un alto porcentaje de los incendios pueden ser
evitados.
Medidas preventivas para evitar incendios:
* Desde el 15 de mayo al 31 de octubre está prohibido
quemar restos de poda
* No tirar las colillas al suelo.
* Un cigarro mal apagado puede provocar un incendio.
* No tirar desperdicios. Las botellas abandonadas y los
objetos de cristal, además de ensuciar el monte, pueden
ocasionar incendios pues hacen de lupa y aumentan el
calor. Los restos de césped autocombustionan al irse
pudriendo y secando van descomponiéndose químicamente
y pueden arder solos.
* Tener presentes las prohibiciones de hacer fuego en el
monte. Las únicas excepciones son: áreas de barbacoa en
áreas recreativas y autorizaciones expresas para la quema
de rastrojos.
* Tener en cuenta las condiciones meteorológicas. Si éstas

Actuaciones en caso de que se produzca fuego:

* Call the emergency services.
* If it is just a small fire, try to put it out using green
branches and earth.
* Have an evacuation area ready.
* Breathe using a wet scarf over your mouth to avoid the
negative effects of the smoke.
* Escape from the fire downwards, as the fire will tend to
go upwards.
* Do not try to cross the flames without knowing what is
on the other side. Should you have to cross the flames,
first you have to wet your clothes and protect your face.
* Try to run away through the area that has less vegetation.
* A change in the direction of the wind can leave you
trapped so always run in the opposite direction to the wind.
* Do not run towards gullies or ravines.
* If you are trapped by the fire you should lay in the river
or where it has already been burnt, laying on the ground
behind a rock or covered with earth. Always laying down
as the air is purer nearer to the ground.
* Do not use vehicles if you are surrounded by fire.
* If the fire is being extinguished by air or the firemen are
using fire-trucks, protect yourself from the water impact.
* Llamar a los servicios de emergencia.
* Si el fuego es pequeño, intentar apagar las llamas con
ramas verdes y tierra.
* Tener prevista una zona de evacuación.
* Respirar con un pañuelo mojado en la boca para evitar
los efectos negativos del humo.
* Huir de las llamas del fuego hacia abajo, ya que el fuego
tenderá a desplazarse hacia ladera arriba.
* No intentar cruzar las llamas sin saber lo que hay detrás.
Si se hiciera, primero debe mojarse la ropa y protegerse
la cara.
* Tratar de alejarse por las zonas laterales del mismo y
más desprovistas de vegetación.
* Tener presente que un cambio en la dirección del viento
puede hacer que el fuego le deje atrapado. Por tanto,
muévase siempre en sentido contrario a la dirección del
viento.
* No dirigirse hacia barrancos u hondonadas.
* Si se viera atrapado por el fuego debe intentar situarse
en arroyos o en zonas ya quemadas, echado en el suelo
detrás de alguna roca o cubierto de tierra. Siempre tumbado,
porque el aire mas puro queda mas próximo al suelo.
* No hacer uso de los vehículos si estás rodeado de fuego.
* Si actúan los medios aéreos en la lucha contra el fuego
o los bomberos con camiones cisternas, protegerse del
impacto del agua.
Arrojar residuos, vegetales, restos de obra o cualquier otro
material, a las zonas verdes será denunciado y sancionado.
Curso de prevención y actuación en caso de incendios.
El personal de la EUC, tanto de servicios operativos como
el personal de oficina ha recibido un curso en el que se les
ha explicado como actuar en caso de incendio. Este curso
ha sido impartido por un bombero especializado en dar
este tipo de cursos en aquellas instituciones que lo solicitan.
Conocer como actuar en cada caso, dependiendo de lo que
se esté combustionando, es muy importante.
La actuación de los primeros momentos de un incendio
puede ser crucial, pues lo más probable es que se pueda
apagar en cuanto se inicia con pocos medios, siempre hay
que llamar a emergencias 112 donde atienden en diversos
idiomas o directamente a los bomberos de Mijas en el

Una cosa bien sencilla y barata para evitar incendios en
las viviendas porque se olvide algo al fuego es la colocación
de un detector de humos en el techo de la vivienda, no en
la cocina que saltaría continuamente sino en el cuarto o
pasillo colindante, el precio de un detector a pilas que no
necesita instalación ronda los 20 euros poco mas o menos.
An easy and cheap way to avoid fires insides dwellings
due to leaving something on the cooker for example is by
installing smoke alarms on the ceiling, not in the kitchen
but in the next door room or hallway. The price of these
alarms that use batteries is about 20 euros and they do not
need any specific installation.
INFRAESTRUCTURAS
INFRASTRUCTURES
Durante los pasados meses hemos podido ver cómo han
ido terminando las obras de la Av. España, al final ha
valido la pena todo el trabajo realizado siendo innumerables
las felicitaciones recibidas por el buen trabajo. No obstante,
nos hemos quedado con las ganas de continuar las obras
hasta la rotonda principal, y que, debido a la crisis, no
hemos tenido más remedio que dejar para el año que viene.
Debido a la inversión realizada en la Av. España, el nivel
de obras de infraestructura que normalmente contratamos
a empresas externas se va a reducir de aquí hasta el final
del año, sin embargo nuestros servicios operativos van a
seguir realizando aceras nuevas, reparando antiguas aceras
e instalaciones comunes.
En estos momentos estamos colocando con los servicios
operativos de la comunidad las últimas farolas de la Av.
España, ésta colocación de farolas ha tenido un pequeño
retraso debido a que se ha estado realizando el plan de
prevención de incendios. Queremos desde aquí agradecer
a la empresa suministradora el asesoramiento recibido,
dando un resultado de iluminación sobresaliente.
Por otro lado, los servicios operativos siguen arreglando
numerosas arquetas en toda la urbanización y podemos
decir que en poco tiempo podremos estar al día. En este
punto agradecemos la inestimable ayuda de los vecinos
que nos avisan de estos desperfectos, por ello queremos
animarles para que cuando observen algún problema en
nuestras calles no duden en informar a nuestra oficina, ya
sea por teléfono, correo electrónico, fax, etc..Y entre todos
conseguiremos que nuestra urbanización se mantenga en
el mejor estado posible.
Seguimos en la línea de retirar las rejillas de los cunetines,
During the last months we have been able to see the
progress of the works on Avda. de España. It has finally
been worth all the work carried out and we have received
many congratulations for the good work. Nevertheless, we
would have liked to be able to continue the works down
to the roundabout, but due to the crisis we will have to
leave it until next year.
Due to the investment carried out on Avda. de España, our
level of infrastructure works for which we usually hire
independent companies will be reduced until the end of
the year, though our staff will continue making new
pavements, repairing old ones and general installations.
At present our staff is installing the last lampposts on
Avda. de España. We would like to thank the supplying

Also, the operative services continue repairing broken
manholes throughout the urbanisation and soon we will

neighbours who inform us of these faults. We would also
like to encourage all neighbours to inform us, either by
phone, e-mail, fax or at the office of any faults they may
have seen so we can maintain our streets at the highest
level possible.

por ello se han eliminado las ultimas rejillas de la Calle
José de Orbaneja y ahora, se van a empezar a retirar en
calle Jaén. Con esto mejoraremos el paso de agua de lluvias,
no se quedaran almacenadas por la suciedad arrastrada, y
mejoraremos el acceso de los vehículos a las viviendas.
Si algún vecino necesita asesoramiento de cómo realizar
estas obras para hacerlas ellos mismos deben de pasar por
la oficina de la E.U.C. y se le indicará la mejor solución
en su caso.
Nuestro técnico ha realizado varios estudios y en breve
nuestros servicios operativos van a realizar aceras nuevas
en la zona superior de la Calle Jaén junto al cruce con la
Calle José de Orbaneja, además se continuará en la misma
calle José de Orbaneja frente a la Comunidad Estrellas de
Calahonda. Estas aceras son obras nuevas (no de
reparación), y viene a terminar uno de los puntos sin
acerado de la urbanización con más tráfico tanto de
vehículos como de peatones.
Para el futuro a corto y medio plazo se están realizando
diversos estudios, tanto por nuestro técnico como por
empresas especialistas en iluminación, para mejorar la
iluminación de toda la urbanización, de hecho en la Av.
España se está realizando la fase inicial de esta mejora,
colocando farolas de mayor altura y lámparas más eficientes,
dando muy buena iluminación. Aumentando la seguridad
tanto para vehículos como para peatones. Dado a que en
la urbanización hay unas mil farolas aproximadamente, la
mejora será gradual, para este fin, se está estudiando
continuar la Av. España con farolas de gran tamaño y
potencia, a la vez reutilizar las farolas antiguas de la Av.
España, (que tienen una altura de 5m), para iluminar la
Calle José de Orbaneja (actualmente tiene farolas de 3m.),
y los puntos más singulares de la urbanización, como
cruces de grandes dimensiones, paso de peatones, etc,
aumentando en definitiva la seguridad vial.
Por otro lado, la normativa sobre alumbrado público ha
cambiado recientemente, por esta razón, en nuestros estudios
de mejora está la de ir cambiando las lámparas actuales
por otras que cumplan estas normas.

community of Estrellas. These pavements are new ones
(not repaired ones) and complete one of the areas of the
urbanisation that didn't have a pavement where there is a
lot of traffic and pedestrians.
For the near future several studies are being carried out
by our technician and by companies that are experts in
lighting to improve the lighting throughout the urbanisation.
In fact the initial phase of this improvement is already
being carried out on Avda. de España where taller and
more efficient lampposts have been installed giving better
lighting. This improves the security of both traffic and
pedestrians. As there are approximately one thousand
lampposts in the urbanisation we intend to gradually
improve them all. To do this we are studying the possibility
of using these tall lampposts all along Avda. de España
and reusing the existent ones (that are 5 metres tall) for
calle José de Orbaneja (which currently measure 3 metres)
and other significant areas of the urbanisation such as large
crossroads, pedestrian crossings, etc. improving the road
security. Also, the ruling on public lighting has changed
recently, for this reason, included in our improvement
studies is the changing of the current lampposts for some
which fulfil these rules.

SECURITY
A principios de julio firmaremos el contrato de seguridad
con la compañía que va a llevar a cabo el servicio en
nuestra urbanización, este contrato será anual y en caso
de que no se rescinda por ninguna de las partes se irá
prorrogando año a año.
Miembros de la Junta Directiva de la E.U.C. así como
nuestro Gerente se han estado reuniendo con diversas
compañías del sector intentando buscar la mejor compañía
para nuestra urbanización. Se han mantenido muchas
reuniones y en todas ellas las compañías han ido aportando
ideas que en algunos casos nos han parecido muy adecuadas
para nosotros y hemos ido incorporándolas al contrato, de
modo que podemos decir que entre los finalistas se
encuentran las compañías que nos van a dar lo mejor de
todas.
Cualquier decisión que toma la Junta Directiva es estudiada
desde muchas perspectivas, pues estamos hablando del
dinero de los propietarios de la urbanización que han
depositado su confianza en nosotros para administrarlo de
la mejor manera posible, no deben olvidar que los miembros
de la Junta son también propietarios, por tanto, lo que es
bueno para la urbanización es bueno para los directivos.
A diferencia del contrato de agua que debía de ser a largo
plazo para amortizar las inversiones, el contrato de seguridad
se hace de año en año, esto nos deja las manos más libres,
permitiéndonos seleccionar a una compañía y establecer
el año como periodo de prueba y en caso de que no cumpla
con las expectativas que nos han creado al ofertarnos sus
servicios poder cambiar al año siguiente a otra empresa.
No vamos a volver a detallarles las medidas de seguridad
que han de tomar pues todos las conocemos, aunque nos
relajemos con el buen tiempo no debemos bajar la guardia
para que lo delincuentes no nos den una desagradable
sorpresa.
At the beginning of July we will sign the security contract
with the company who will carry out the service in our
urbanisation. This contract will be annual and if none of
the parties cancel the contract it will be prolonged year by
year.
The Directors and our manager have been holding meetings
with several companies of the sector trying to find the best
company for our urbanisation. Many meetings have been
held and at all of them the companies have given ideas
that in some cases seem very adequate for us and we have
added them to the contract, so we can say that within the
finalist companies are those that offer the best services.
Any decision taken by the Board of Directors is studied
from several points of view as we are talking about the
money of all the owners of the urbanisation who have put
their trust in us to administrate in the best way possible.
You mustn't forget that the members of the Board are also
owners and therefore, what is good for the urbanisation is
good for the Board members.
Unlike the water contract that had to be for a long period
of time to redeem all the investments, the security contract
is on a yearly basis which leaves our hands free allowing
us to select a company and establish the year as a trial
period. If they don't work as we expected we can change
the following year to another company.
We aren't going to tell you again all the security measures
that should be taken as we all know them, but although
we relax with the good weather we should always be alert
to avoid the criminals giving us unpleasant surprises.

La crisis nos obliga a recortar gastos en las cosas más
superfluas, por tanto, aunque vamos a celebrar la fiesta
anual de la urbanización, se contará con menos medios
que en años anteriores.
La fiesta se organiza gracias a
los patrocinadores, la
urbanización no gasta en este
evento, los patrocinadores están
sumidos en la misma crisis que
todos y por tanto ya sabemos que
contaremos con menos ingresos.
El día 3 de Julio en el parque
vivero haremos la fiesta infantil
y ofreceremos una copa de vino
a los residentes que quieran
hacernos compañía, en el mismo
lugar sortearemos algunos de los
regalos donados y habrá instalado
un chiringuito para poder comer
y beber.
El mismo día 3 se celebrará el
tradicional campeonato de Golf
Sitio de Calahonda en el Club de
golf la Siesta, todos aquellos que
estén interesados pueden dirigirse
al club para informarse.
El campeonato de Bridge se jugará el viernes día 2 de julio
en el Club la Naranja.
Esperamos poder ofrecerles un rato de diversión.
The crisis has forced us to reduce superfluous costs and
therefore, though we are going to celebrate the annual
festivity of the urbanisation, we will have less means than
in previous years.
The party is organised thanks to
the sponsors, the urbanisation
doesn't spend a penny on this
event. The sponsors are in the
middle of the crisis as everyone
else and therefore we will have
less income from them.
On the 3rd of July we will have
the children's party and offer a
glass of wine to residents who
wish to join us. We will also
raffle some presents and there
will be a bar with food and drink.
On the same day there will be
the traditional golf tournament
of Sitio de Calahonda at La Siesta
Golf Club. All those interested
in participating must go to the
club for information.
The Bridge tournament will be
held on the 2nd of July at Club La Naranja.

EMPADRONAMIENTO
EMPADRONAMIENTO
Tenemos un problema en la mayoría de las urbanizaciones
de Mijas - el Ayuntamiento no nos ayuda o nos ayuda
poco. El IBI que pagamos todos los años, es decir nuestra
"contribución urbana" (como tan bien se describía antes),
es un dinero que el Ayuntamiento invierte y/o gasta en
otras zonas urbanas y no en las urbanizaciones. En el Sitio
de Calahonda el problema es serio. Nada de nuestro IBI
(nuestra "contribución urbana") se gasta en nuestra zona
sino que se la llevan a aquellas zonas donde hay más
habitantes empadronados. Esas zonas son La Cala de
Mijas, Las Lagunas, Mijas Pueblo pero no Sitio de
Calahonda.
¿Por qué estamos en esta situación?
El Ayuntamiento recibe del gobierno central español una
suma cercana a los ¤180 por cada habitante empadronado
en su municipalidad. Esto nos interesa a todos pero, aunque
en Sitio de Calahonda viven muchos ya sea
permanentemente o durante gran parte del año, hay muy
pocos que están empadronados en el Ayuntamiento y, por
lo tanto, el Ayuntamiento recibe muy poco dinero del
gobierno central por los habitantes de Sitio de Calahonda.
Pasamos a ser, ante los ojos del Ayuntamiento, una zona
marginal de poca importancia y no nos hacen caso cuando
pedimos algo.
En las elecciones locales para elegir a los Concejales y al
Alcalde hay que no solo estar empadronado, sino que
además hay que estar registrado en el censo electoral.
Cuando los políticos que están en el Ayuntamiento miran
el censo electoral y ven que aquí en nuestra urbanización
hay muy pocos votantes que puedan tener una influencia
en el resultado de las elecciones, no se ven interesados en
gastar o invertir en Sitio de Calahonda ya que no ganan
votos, en cambio sí se interesan en usar el dinero de nuestro
IBI en aquellas zonas donde hay votos como son La Cala
de Mijas, Las Lagunas, Mijas Pueblo. Por las mismas
razones los Concejales de la oposición tampoco se sentirán
muy inclinados a defender nuestras peticiones en las
There is a problem in most of the urbanisations in Mijas
- the Town Hall does not help us at all or very little. The
IBI that we pay every year, i.e. the "urban contribution"
(as it so rightly used to be called in the past) is an amount
of money that the Town Hall invests or spends in other

In Sitio de Calahonda the problem is acute. None of our
IBI (our "urban contribution") is spent in our area; instead
it is used in those areas where there are more inhabitants
registered. These areas are La Cala de Mijas, Mijas Pueblo,
Las Lagunas, but not Sitio de Calahonda.
Why do we have this situation?
The central government of Spain pays the Town Hall a
sum of about ¤180 for each registered (empadronado)
inhabitant. This is in the interest of us all but, although
Calahonda has a high number of inhabitants that live here
either permanently or part time, only very few are registered
(empadronados) in the Town Hall and therefore the Town
Hall receives only a small amount from the central
government for the Calahonda inhabitants. We are, in the
eyes of the Town Hall, a marginal zone of minor importance
and they do not listen to us when we ask for help.
To be able to vote in the local elections that choose the
Mayor and the Councillors one has to be, not only registered
(empadronado), but be included in the voting lists. When
the politicians in the Town Hall look for more votes to
stay in power and find out that there are very few votes
coming from Calahonda then they feel inclined to spend
or invest our IBI money in other areas with more votes
such as La Cala de Mijas, Mijas Pueblo, Las Lagunas.
The Councillors of the opposition parties in the Town Hall
may have the same attitude when defending requests from
the different areas of Mijas.
According to the latest polls, the main opposition party in
Mijas beats the party presently in the Town Hall by a very

Según las encuestas de intención de voto, el partido de
oposición en Mijas supera por una pequeña cifra al partido
actualmente en el Ayuntamiento. Esto significa que
urbanizaciones como Sitio de Calahonda podrían ser
determinantes en decidir quien gobierna en Mijas después
de las elecciones de Mayo 2011 - pero en este momento
esto no es así porque hay muy pocos votantes en Calahonda.
Los políticos saben esto y no nos hacen caso.
¿Cómo se puede mejorar esta situación?
Básicamente: hay que empadronarse y votar.
Si nos empadronáramos todos, españoles y extranjeros,
los que vivimos aquí todo el año y los que vivimos solo
parte del año, los europeos y no-europeos y además los
españoles y europeos expresáramos en el momento de
empadronarnos la voluntad de participar en las elecciones
municipales, la situación cambiaría.
El Ayuntamiento recibiría más dinero por tener más
habitantes empadronados. Dejaríamos de ser una zona
marginal sin importancia - nos harían mas caso cuando
pidamos algo.
Cuando los políticos del Ayuntamiento vean cifras más
interesantes en el número de votantes en Calahonda desearán
ganar nuestros votos ayudándonos en nuestras mejoras
urbanas para mantenerse en sus puestos. Los políticos de
la oposición abogarán por nuestras reivindicaciones para
ganarse nuestros votos ayudándonos en nuestras peticiones
al Ayuntamiento para nuestra urbanización.
Si tenemos más votantes nuestra posición de ser decisivos
en las elecciones de Mayo del 2011 se reforzará y a los
políticos les interesará nuestra opinión que la podrían ganar
ayudando a nuestra urbanización.
¿Qué hacer?
Acudir al Ayuntamiento en Mijas Pueblo o a la Tenencia
de Alcaldía de La Cala de Mijas y solicitar ser incluido en
el Padrón Municipal, es decir, ser empadronado. Para esto
hay que identificarse y demostrar que se es propietario en
Calahonda o que es arrendatario en Calahonda. Para
identificarse basta el pasaporte (o DNI si es español) o el
permiso de residencia si es extranjero residente permanente.
Para demostrar que vive en Calahonda puede mostrar
copia de su "escritura" de propiedad si es propietario o su
contrato de arrendamiento si vive en régimen de alquiler
y cualquier recibo o factura en el que este indicado su
nombre y dirección.
Durante el proceso de empadronamiento hay que dar a
saber expresamente que también quiere poder votar en las
narrow margin. This means that urbanisations such as
Calahonda would be decisive in tilting the balance one
way or the other in the elections of May 2011 - at the
moment this is unfortunately not so because of the low
number of votes in Calahonda. The politicians know this
and do not listen to us.
How can we improve this situation?
Basically the answer is: register (empadronarse) and vote.
If we were all registered, Spaniards and foreigners, those
who live here all year or only part of the tear, the Europeans
and non-Europeans and further if all Spaniards and
Europeans, when going to register, would specifically
express the wish to vote in the local elections, the situation
would improve.
The Town Hall would receive more money for having
more inhabitants registered (empadronados). We would
not be a marginal area with no importance. They would
listen to us more when we ask for something.
When the politicians of the Town Hall see more interesting
figures in the number of votes in Calahonda they would
want to win those votes to stay in their jobs by helping us
in our urban improvements. The opposition politicians
would help us by arguing in favour of our petitions to the
Town Hall in order to get our sympathies and therefore
gain our votes to get the majority.
With more votes our position of being decisive by tipping
the balance of power in the Town Hall would be reinforced
and the politicians will be interested in our votes which
they could gain by helping our Community.
What to do?
Go to the Town Hall in Mijas Pueblo or to the Tenencia
de Alcaldía in La Cala de Mijas and ask to be included in
the "Padrón Municipal" (to be "empadronado"). For this
one needs to identify and to prove that one is either a
proprietor in Calahonda or that one lives here on a rental
basis. To identify one only needs the passport or the
residence permit (if permanently resident). To prove that
one lives here one can show a copy of the "escritura"
(deed) of the property or the rental contract and any receipt
or invoice where your name and address is stated.
During the process of registering (empadronamiento) one
has to express the will to be included in the voting list for
the local elections.

RENUMERACIÓN DE CALLES
STREET RE-NUMBERING
Desde hace varios meses les veníamos informando sobre
la renumeración de calles que estaba realizando el
Ayuntamiento, ya podemos decirles que la mayoría de
nuestras calles tienen en las fachadas de sus viviendas el
nuevo número municipal, en cuanto se finalice con toda
la urbanización y se revise que todo se ha realizado
correctamente comenzará el plazo para que los vecinos
procedan a avisar a donde corresponda de su nueva
dirección, Correos da un plazo aproximado de un mes para
ello. Este número es oficial, por tanto si ustedes deciden
prescindir del mismo y no usarlo, corren el riesgo de no
recibir el correo.
Throughout the past months we have been informing you
about the re-numbering of the streets that the Town Hall
is carrying out. We can now say that most of our streets
have the new municipal numbers put up. Once all the
streets of the urbanisation have been completed and the
numbers revised to make sure that everything is correct
there will be an adaptation period in which neighbours
must advise whoever it may concern of their new address.
The Post Office will be giving approximately one month
to do so.
This process is free and has no relation with any fiscal
authority (no tax registry) - the aim is to give political
importance to the Community where you spend your time
and therefore an improvement in the quality of your life.

CLEAN POINTS
Los Puntos Limpios son parques de contenedores destinados
a la recogida de muebles, enseres, restos de podas, pequeñas
cantidades de escombros, electrodomésticos, chatarras y
de todos aquellos residuos que generados en los hogares,
se consideran "tóxicos y peligrosos" (pilas, fluorescentes,
baterías, aceites, pinturas, disolventes....) y que proceden
de particulares.
The clean points are parks of containers for the collection
of furniture, garden rubbish, small amounts of rubble,
electric equipment and any other type of domestic debris
that may be considered "toxic and dangerous" (batteries,
fluorescent kitchen lights, oils, paint, dissolvent...)
proceeding from particulars.
