Second Week of Advent~~~Hope Filled Message!
Living in our “information culture” makes us very
dependent on those who craft the hundreds of media
messages that bombard us daily. From the email on our
computers, to the ads we see and hear, to the news
reports we digest—we’re at the mercy of the messengers
who craft them. Are they credible? Which of them do we
trust? We look for reliability in the familiar faces we see and
the voices we hear. It’s no wonder people often identify
the news reports by the presenter rather than the news
agency. We often say, “Did you hear what Dan Rather said
last night?” or “Did you listen to Bill O’Reilly?” Or “Connie
Chung?” Or “Rush Limbaugh?”
Today’s Advent readings find us listening to hope-filled
messages with an emphasis on the one who brings the
message:
-- Isaiah the prophet, “a voice, crying in the wilderness”;
-- Zion or Jerusalem, God’s holy city, heralding God’s
approach with power;
-- John the Baptist, echoing Isaiah, calling for repentance
to prepare the way for the Messiah.
And the author of the second reading, cautioning us to
treat the message of God’s intervention seriously: Even
though the promised events have not yet come to pass,
we can rely on the hope-filled message of Christ’s return in
glory. We should live accordingly, always in readiness.
If skepticism in the face of the many disappointments we
face in the world has begun to invade our religious life,
today’s a good time to refocus our hopes. Let the ringing
truth delivered by God’s messengers echo in our hearts
today, & let the message of repentance move us as well.

Starting Sunday, December 16, Church, 6:30 PM
Come join the Latino community and experience Las
Posadas, the remembering of Joseph and Mary’s search for
room at the inn. Meet in the church at 6:30 PM and fiesta at
7:15 PM in the cafeteria (typical food and piñata) every
evening through Christmas Eve.

Many hands are needed to help make the church beautiful
for Christmas! Please plan to join us for an hour or two (or
more!) on Sunday, December 21 after the 11:30 Mass,
approximately 1:00 PM. Help is needed to clean & dust,
polish the pews, set up the manger scene, poke holes in the
poinsettia wrappers (yes, it’s true!), and set the plants in
place, hang the wreathes, set up and “fluff” the Christmas
trees, and other miscellaneous tasks. It would be helpful to
know (but now necessary) if you plan to join us, so please

Segunda semana de ADVIENTO 2014:
“Preparen el camino del Señor….”
En este segundo domingo de Adviento, la voz de
Juan Bautista resuena en nuestros oídos: “Preparen
el camino del Señor…” Prepárense de dejar atrás el
estilo de vida que no brinda vida. Prepárense para
el renacimiento de Cristo en tu corazón. Prepárense
por cada encuentro con otro ser humano porque
Cristo vive en él, en ella. “Preparen el camino del
Señor…”
Reflexione en su vida: ¿Qué necesita hacer para
que la paz y el amor de Cristo reinen en su vida?
¿Cómo abierto más mi corazón a Cristo y al Cristo
en mi prójimo esta navidad? Para mí, me gusta el
silencio y la oscuridad del invierno para llamarme la
atención de tranquilizarme, de llevar una vida
menos agitada. Adviento siempre me hace
reflexionar en lo que importa: que quiero pasar más
tiempo de calidad con los seres queridos en mi vida
y buscar la manera de preocuparnos por los más
necesitados. En el día de Acción de Gracias,
miembros de esta parroquia prepararon y
entregaron más de 1500 platos de comida. Tenemos
más de 125 familias registrados para recibir juguetes
de Toys for Tots. Todos los días hay llamadas de
gente que necesitan algo y no podemos ayudar a
todos. Cristo vive entre nosotros. ¿Está mi corazón,
tu corazón, nuestro corazón de esta comunidad,
abierto a recibirle?
