Finalmente, ¿cuáles son las condiciones para que una marca de BTT se imponga
permanentemente en un mercado mundial que se caracteriza por una oferta
abundante y lineal? Calidad, autenticidad, personalidad y trabajo directo con atletas
son factores ineludibles de éxito. Pero también es esencial la capacidad de innovar,
desarrollar y crear permanentemente nuevas tecnologías para ir más allá en términos
de confort, diseño y rendimiento.
En Lapierre, la búsqueda creativa permanente es nuestra mejor fórmula para ir hacia
adelante. Presentarle la materialización de varios años de investigaciones, desarrollo
y pruebas sobre el terreno siempre nos enorgullece. Es difícil, como ya sabrá, mejorar
el año anterior.
Sin embargo, 2013 se presenta con una novedad especial. Además de las numerosas
novedades en el conjunto de la gama, y de nuestro nuevo modelo XR (una cross country
con doble suspensión, 29’’, ultra ligera y eficaz), la novedad de 2013 que quedará
registrada en su memoria será el lanzamiento del primer sistema de suspensión
inteligente. Una pequeña revolución desarrollada por Lapierre y sus socios del Grupo
Accell, que dará mucho que hablar. Algo muy bueno para una marca francesa líder que
se enorgullece de concebir, desarrollar y ensamblar la mayoría de sus BTT en sus dos
emplazamientos de producción en Francia, y que se distribuye en más de 20 países.
Innovar es primordial, pero también lo es asociarse desde hace más de 25 años en la
historia y la evolución de este deporte, a través de nuestras avanzadas técnicas y de
nuestros campeones, como Nicolas Vouilloz. No es casualidad si Lapierre es el socio

Para que tu sistema de suspensión Lapierre inventa la primera
no sea un rompecabezas
suspensión inteligente
Por suerte, los detractores de la BTT de doble suspensión
han desaparecido. Que sea en Cross Country, en
excursiones en la montaña o en Enduro, esos modelos
dan una soltura, un confort y una motricidad que nadie,
hoy en día, puede discutir. El único inconveniente es que
al pasar una piedra, rodar por una pista técnica, pasando
un vado o a toda velocidad en un camino forestal, no le
pedimos lo mismo a la suspensión trasera.
Si las tecnologías anti vaivén como FPS 2, OST o Pendbox
resuelven parte de esta problemática, otros modelos
adoptan sistemas más clásicos con 2 ó 3 posiciones en
función del terreno. En todos los casos, en el fragor de
la batalla, es complicado para el piloto anticipar estos
ajustes de manera permanente y óptima. Éste tiene
que gestionar muchos parámetros: su trayecto, sus
desarrollos, su horquilla, su esfuerzo, su alimentación... Y
después de una hora en la bici, se olvida del amortiguador
trasero. Como consecuencia, la suspensión trasera se
transforma en un componente secundario. Se queda
entonces en posición abierta, lo que puede perjudicar a tu
rendimiento. O queda en posición cerrada, lo que es muy
incómodo y puede alterar el funcionamiento. Resultado:
un componente esencial de la bici queda mal utilizado,
obligándote a elegir entre confort y rendimiento.
¿Y si fuera tu BTT, en función del terreno por dónde va,
la que gestionara tu amortiguador? ¿Difícil de creer?
Lapierre lo ha conseguido. Con 5 años de desarrollo y
elaboración, el lanzamiento comercial del concepto e:i
shock es un evento importante para todos los pilotos
exigentes. Con una BTT Lapierre equipada con e:i
shock, en cualquier terreno, el amortiguador siempre
está en buena posición y su funcionamiento está
optimizado. ¡No hay más que hablar!
¿Cómo funciona?
e:i shock está compuesto por una pantalla de control,
una batería y 3 sensores:
• 1 sensor de movimiento en la horquilla
• 1 acelerómetro en la potencia
• 1 sensor de pedaleo
El amortiguador e:i shock tiene 4 modos :
1. Pedaleo + ningún impacto = amortiguador bloqueado
2. Pedaleo + pequeño impacto = Medio (Plataforma)
3. Pedaleo + gran impacto = abierto
4. Sin pedaleo = abierto
Esta innovación tecnológica sin igual, dota a su BTT de un
verdadero cerebro capaz de analizar el terreno y adaptar
instantáneamente los reglajes del amortiguador.

Effortless Suspension
Una reacción máxima:
Los sensores delanteros analizan permanentemente
la naturaleza del terreno (impactos) y transmiten la
información al amortiguador en 0.1 segundos (es decir,
la distancia entre la rueda delantera y la rueda trasera a
36 km por hora).
Una plataforma multifunciones:
Al mismo tiempo la pantalla de control e:i shock está
dotada de la funciones clásicas (velocidad, cronómetro,
cuentakilómetros, velocidad media e instantánea…) y le
indica la cadencia de pedaleo, el nivel de batería (autonomía de 25 horas) así como posición del amortiguador
en tiempo real.
El kit e:i shock es discreto, estético y compacto, y sólo
pesa 350 gramos.

Numerous in the past, critics of full-suspension have
virtually disappeared. Used for cross country, epic
mountain descents, or Enduro, these ‘fully-suspended’
models bring you undeniable ease, comfort and
maneuverability. The only problem is that, whether you
are negotiating technical trails, climbing a rocky single
track or racing through the forest, you need to adjust
how your rear shock responds according to the terrain.
If the Lapierre technologies, such as FPS 2, OST or
Pendbox prevent pedal kickback, some other models
offer you more basic systems based on the rear shock
adjustability, with 2 or 3 positions to choose according
to the terrain. Undeniably, it remains difficult for the
rider to anticipate which shock position is best for the
moment. While concentrating on direction, speed, fork
set-up, effort and even nutrition, setting the rear shock
easily becomes secondary and can be forgotten. The
shock either remains open, which can be detrimental
to your performance, or even worse, locked, which
becomes uncomfortable and may limit its function. The
result is that an essential part of your bike remains
under-utilized and you are forced to choose between
comfort and performance.

Well, Lapierre did it. After 5 years of development
and tests, the launch of e:i shock is a revolution for
demanding riders. A Lapierre MTB, equipped with the
e:i shock technology, means your rear shock is always in
the right position and always functioning optimally.
No more compromise!
How does it work?
e:i shock is composed of a display unit, a battery
and 3 sensors :
• 1 accelerometer on the fork
• 1 accelerometer on the stem
• 1 cadence sensor
The e:i shock offers 4 adjustable modes :
1. Pedaling + no shock = blocked (locked)
2. Pedaling + light hits = platform (medium)
3. Pedaling + big hits = open (open)
4. No pedaling = open
This unique technological innovation gives your MTB
intelligence: the ability to analyze the terrain and to
instantly adapt the shock settings.

Maximum reactivity :
The entire process takes .01 seconds between the
sensors registering bump movement and cadence, to
adjustment of the rear shock (distance between the
front and rear wheel, travelling at 36 km/h) .
Result : the position of your suspension system changes
between 20 and 30 times per minute, much more
than a rider could do manually. Thanks to this, you keep
your focus on your riding and your bike is performing
optimally.
A multi-function platform:
The e:i shock display has the same functions as a bike
computer (speed, chrono, distance, average speed,
current speed…) and shows your cadence, the battery
reserve (full charge: 25 hours) as well as the current
position of the shock.
The e:i shock system, aesthetic and compact, only
weighs 350 gr.

Historia de un prodigio
A prodigy’s history
El joven Nicolas, que creció en Niza, es un malabarista de las dos ruedas: BMX,
Freestyle, bici de carretera, MotoCross, trial… Pero fue en 1990, empujado por
un compañero de escuela cuando se inscribió a su 1ª competición de DH – y la ganó.
Tiene 14 anos, y no sabe que está en el comienzo de una tremenda carrera profesional.
Durante más de 10 años « ET », como se le apoda, va a dominar este deporte en el cual es
difícil tener resultados regulares por la incertidumbre de cada salida (caídas, lesiones,
incidentes mecánicos…), lo que hace su lista de victorias aún más impresionante: 10
veces Campeón del Mundo entre 1992 y 2002 (incluso 3 victorias entre los junior) de
11 participaciones. También ganó 5 Copas del Mundo, 3 Campeonatos de Europa y
varios títulos nacionales que hacen de Nicolas uno de los deportistas franceses más
galardonado.
Growing up in Nice, France, Nico was into all types of riding: Freestyle, Road, Motocross,
Trials bikes… Then, in 1990, challenged by one of his school friends, he took part in
his first DH competition – only to win it ! He was then only 14, and at the dawn of a
terrific career. For more than 10 years, Nico –nicknamed ET – dominated the DH
circuit. A real feat, considering the typical race hazards such as crashes, injuries
and mechanical failures. His achievements are impressive : 10x World Champion
between 1992 and 2002 (including 3 victories as a Junior). 10 wins out of the 11
World Championships in which he competed. He also won 5 World Cups, 3 European
Championships, and numerous national races, and remains one of the most rewarded
French athletes.

el maestro y las nuevas promesas / the master and the young guard
Toma parte en las carreras de la Copa del Mundo de Enduro con su Spicy, pero
además, Nicolas Vouilloz también es un consultor de lujo para el Team DH. Gracias a
su experiencia y al análisis de tres temporadas de la Copa del Mundo, la bici del Team,
equipada con la tecnología Pendbox, se afinó para disponer de un mejor rendimiento.
Fue de nuevo Nicolas quién descubrió a Loïc Bruni en 2011. Después, el campeón
de Francia Junior despegó y se aproxima velozmente al Top 10 en las carreras de la
Copa del Mundo. Un refuerzo importante para nuestros tres pilotos, cuya motivación
nunca flaquea: Sam Blenkinsop, la estrella neozelandesa (3o en el Campeonato del
Mundo 2011), el superdotado joven Patrick Thome y Cameron Cole (2ª en la Copa
del Mundo de Fort William 2010), que realiza una gran temporada con sus Top 5
regulares en la Copa del Mundo.
When not ripping up the Enduro circuit with his Spicy, Nicolas Vouilloz devotes time
to working with the Lapierre DH Team. His year’s of expertise have helped design
the Team DH bike, in use for 3 successful DH WC seasons. Equipped with the
praised Pendbox technology, for 2013 it gets further upgrades to its performance.
Not only does Nico work to improve the team’s bikes, he also has contributed to its
members. Nicolas brought Loïc Bruni to the team in 2011. Since then, the French
Junior Champion continues to rise, and claimed his first WC podium with a fantastic
5th place in Windham 2012. A real support for our 3 DH racers: Sam Blenkinshop,
the stylin’ Kiwi (3rd 2011 World Championship), young talent Patrick Thome and
Cameron Cole (2nd 2010 Fort William WC), who consistently finishes in the World
Cup top 5.

Popping up this summer in bike parks and mountain
resorts, the Froggy has been revamped with a more
aggressive geometry. Great for the bike parks or even
on the DH racetracks, with its OST 180 mm alloy frame,
larger seatstays and tapered headset. It’s available

NicoVouilloz’s weapon of choice in Enduro series or
Mégavalanches has once more been improved at the
king’s request. The result is, tweaked geometry for more

Lanzada en 2008, la tecnología OST® (Optimized
Suspension Technology) es el primer diseño
de suspensión inteligente dedicado a las bicis de mayor
recorrido (All Mountain, Enduro y Freeride). Esta
tecnología patentada preparó el terreno para nuestros
modelos Zesty, Spicy y Froggy, y ahora se mejora aún más.
El año pasado nuestros ingenieros trabajaron con
Nicolás Vouilloz y su experiencia en enduro
para mejorar un sistema que casi rozaba la perfección:
OST+. Se ha mejorado su manejabilidad en la bajada y
ofrece incluso una mayor eficiencia en las subidas.

Launched in 2008, OST® technology (Optimized
Suspension Technology) is maybe one of the first
intelligent suspension designs dedicated to longer
travel bikes (All Mountain, Enduro and Freeride). This
patented technology paved the way for our Zesty, Spicy
and Froggy models, and now it’s gotten even better.
Challenged daily by Nicolas Vouilloz, whose Enduro racing
pushed the Spicy to its limits, Lapierre’s engineers
launched an improved suspension called OST+ to
improve downhill handling and provide greater efficiency
in the climbs.
In 2013, Nico re-worked the geometry on Spicy and
Zesty, even further improving the OST+ performance.

The equilibrium point considers rider weight, and each
pedal stroke brings the rear swing arm back to that
equilibrium point, thereby eliminating any pedal bob.

How does it work?
Any force created by pedal feedback is countered by
pedalling: the tension created in the chain by a pedal
stroke brings the swing arm back to its equilibrium
point. The suspension remains active and ready to
absorb any hits.
With correct rear shock adjustment (simple to do,
thanks to the user-friendly sag guide), the efficiency and
performance are optimal.

bici pura de Cross Country en 29” que se distingue

peso pluma. Digno descendiente del modelo X-Race de
2004, que había quedado en la memoria, este cuadro
específicamente concebido para ruedas de 29’ por los
ingenieros Lapierre, adopta una geometría dedicada a la
competición, una estructura simplificada en extremo y un
nuevo sistema mono pivote, que garantiza el mínimo peso

La eliminación de las articulaciones entre las vainas y
los tirantes, se compensa con la flexibilidad del carbono

A major innovation of the 2013 MTB range, this pure
29’’cross-country bike is noted for its innovative, sleek
design and light weight. As a worthy descendant of the
well-loved 2004 Xrace, this frame was specifically
conceived by our engineers for 29” wheels.
The XR geometry is oriented towards competition. Its
elegant yet simple design via a new mono-pivot system,
guarantees critical weight loss and optimized stiffness.
The elimination of linkages between seat stays and chain
stays decreases weight, and is compensated by carbon
flexibility on these areas.
The Fox rear shock has been specifically developed
and tuned for the XR and can be set up manually on 3
positions : CTD (Climb, Trail, Down) so as to offer
100 mm of travel. XR is also compatible with e:i shock,
for even better riding response.
The bike is a viable alternative to hardtails yet remains a
dynamic racing weapon! Superbly efficient while climbing,
thanks to its light weight and excellent traction, the XR
is equally good in descents, due to the rear shock / 29’’
wheel combination coupled with a low position that gives
the rider confidence.
As required by our engineers, the rider position is similar
to that of the 26”, due to a low bottom bracket and

Más confort y una mejor capacidad para
salvar obstáculos:
En menos de 2 años, la 29’’ se impuso como una
verdadera alternativa a la tradicional 26’’, diámetro de
ruedas que se encuentra ahora en la mayoría de las BTT.
Entonces, ¿efecto de moda o verdadera ventaja para el
rider?
La BTT con «grandes ruedas» han sido muy populares
al otro lado del atlántico durante un tiempo, y cuando
ves las ventajas, es fácil comprender el porqué. Pero los
ingenieros de Lapierre han estudiado cuidadosamente
como adoptar esta tendencia, ya que es más complicado
poner un par de neumáticos de 29” a un cuadro

camino. Cuanto más irregular y difícil es el terreno,
más eficaces son las ruedas de 29’’ en comparación
con las 26’’.
Mayor agarre:
La superficie que está en contacto con el suelo es
diferente que con ruedas de 26”, por lo
que tendrá mayor tracción y agarre, especialmente al
girar. Ya que los neumáticos son más resistentes a los
pinchazos, puede reducir su presión e incrementar el
confort e incluso aún más la tracción.
Existe una última ventaja de la rueda de 29”, que no
afecta a todos los pilotos pero que puede ser muy
importante para algunos: Los más altos se sentirán
más a gusto sobre una bici que tiene los componentes
adecuados a un cuadro mayor.
Entonces, ¿26” o 29”?
Mayor estabilidad:
La segunda mejor cualidad de las 29” se percibe
especialmente en las bajadas. Más fácil de dirigir,
mantiene su equilibrio mejor y raramente se desvía de
su trayectoria. En las pendientes más pronunciadas,
la bici tiene menor tendencia a pivotar sobre la rueda
delantera, evitando el riesgo de hacerle saltar por
encima del manillar. De igual forma, en las empinadas
subidas, tendrá una mejor tracción y la rueda delantera
se mantendrá adherida al suelo.

Es difícil decidirse por una, y en Lapierre somos
defensores de ambas medidas. La de 29” es una
buena opción para aquellos que están más limitados
técnicamente o para terrenos más suaves. Los puristas,
por el contrario, están convencidos de que la clásica
rueda de 26” es mejor porque es más resolutiva, ofrece
mejor manejabilidad y les resulta más divertido. La
elección es tuya.
In less than 2 years, 29” wheeled Mountain Bikes
became a real alternative to the classic 26’’. Is it a
short-term trend or does it offer a real advantage for
the riders ?
The ‘big-wheeled’ MTB has proven success in North
America, and offers significant advantages to racers.
Lapierre have studied the benefits of 29” and
approached the design of our 29” models considering
the bike in its entirety. The challenge was greater than
mounting bigger wheels on a 26’’frame, as it involved
adaption of geometry to existing platforms (Pro Rrace,
Raid) and to the creation of a new model dedicated to the
larger wheel size (XR). All this with just one goal in mind :
achieving the best performance and offering exceptional
ride quality.
Better comfort, momentum and stability...
The 29’’ MTB offers a real alternative to 26’’ for cross
country rides .
More comfort and better clearance :
Increased maneuverability :
It is really noticeable when you ride a 29’’. Big wheels
are much less sensitive to ground imperfections and
move over obstacles more easily. They offer improved
stability and speed when confronted with an obstruction
(holes, stones, bumps, rocks, roots). Since they have
less contact with the obstacle, it is easier to cross it.
The more difficult and uneven the tracks, the track, the
greater the efficiency of the big wheels in comparison to
the small ones!
The contact surface with the ground is different from
a 26’’, gripping better in corners and offering better
overall mobility. With more tire surface, they also gain
increased puncture resistance allowing you to ride with
less air and therefore gain comfort and grip over a 26” .
29” wheels have one final advantage : taller riders
sometimes find it hard to find a bike appropriate for their
height. 29ers can offer more variety and comfort.
Better stability :
Another undeniable quality of the 29’’ is its stability.
Particularly while descending. Easier to maneuver, it
maintains equilibrium and does not veer off course. In
very steep descents, the bike doesn’t pivot around the
front wheel, making it less likely that you will fly over
the handlebars! Fast descents just became more fun.
Climbing offers the same principle keeping the wheels
placed on the ground for better traction and control.

So, big wheels or small wheels ?
At Lapierre, the debate raged for some time, but
creating our high performance 29” XR ended the
discussion.
Ultimately, the decision remains with the rider.
A 29’’ remains a good choice for riders who are not
experts in technical tracks. However, purists will still
prefer the 26’’, as it is considered more dynamic and
agile. The choice is yours.

bicis de montaña están específicamente diseñadas para mujeres

Creada en el 2008, la asociación francesa Fundación Mountain
Bikers tiene como objetivo defender los intereses del BTT:
• Defender el acceso de todos a la naturaleza.
•Sensibilizar a la comunidad de los bikers del impacto social y
medioambiental de su práctica.
• Promover esta actividad a través de acciones, teniendo como
objetivo su desarrollo duradero y en relación con los miembros
de la comunidad BTT.

Todos estamos invitados a formar parte de la naturaleza y somos
responsables de los caminos que dejaremos mañana a nuestros
hijos… Para el futuro de nuestra práctica, aquí hay unas sencillas reglas que debemos de aplicar.
We are all guests of Nature and we are responsible for
how we impact the environment for future users.
For our children... for ourselves.
Here are a few common sense rules to apply.

Respeto a la naturaleza

Hay que respetar el medio ambiente, el cual debemos valorar,
incluyendo fauna y la flora.
Se debe recoger toda la basura que generemos, con especial atención
a no dejar caer papeles o bidones.
I respect nature
I respect the environment in which I move, and the tranquility
of the fauna and flora.
I remove all my garbage, and am careful to ensure nothing
escapes from my pockets or elsewhere.

Respeto a los senderos
Es importante respetar los senderos y no practicar fuera de
ellos, incluso cuando queremos acortar en una curva.
Se debe rodar limpio y tratar de no dejar huella a nuestro paso.
Debemos comprometernos a preservar y mantener los senderos conjuntamente con las diferentes asociaciones.
I respect the trails
I respect the trail and do not ride off the trail to cut a corner
or take a short cut.
I ride in such a way to limit trail erosion and avoid skidding.
I am committed to the preservation and maintenance of trails
with my fellow riders and associations.
Defending Access to Nature for all
• Educate the biker community in the environmental
impact of their practice
• To promote this activity through action aimed at its
development and sustainable relationship with all parts
of the MTB community.
Para evitar sorprender a los demás usuarios, podemos disminuir
la velocidad y anunciar tu presencia con un saludo o con el timbre.
I respect other trail users
To avoid surprising others on the trail I slow down
and announce my arrival with a “hello»
or using my bell where necessary.

¡En resumen, soy constantemente embajador del BTT!
Comparto mi pasión por este deporte hablando con los demás
usuario cuando tengo ocasión y respetando el medio ambiente.
En todo momento me comportaré adecuadamente hacia la naturaleza y el resto de usuarios, implicándome al máximo en la prevención y mediación, para un equilibrio entre práctica y naturaleza.
