MARCH—APRIL 2016
Starting in April, the CSP staff will be going to Peabody and Salem high schools to
hold information sessions for interested current HS sophomores to join our
program next year. If you know anyone who will be a HS junior next year, please
give your Site Coordinator their name(s) and contact information so that we can
recruit them! Help us spread the word please!
HS juniors, if you are interested in applying for the Yleana Leadership Academy
summer SAT prep camp, applications will open up March 1st and are due March
31st. The applications are only available to students in our organization and even
though they are due March 31st, the Site Coordinators will have their own
deadlines to ensure that the students submit early and correctly. This is a free
three week summer camp designed to help increase student’s SAT scores.
Students should be talking to their Site Coordinators for more information.
We are planning four more campus visits during April Vacation! The tentative
dates for the campus visits are Tuesday April 19th and Thursday April 21st. The
itinerary is yet to be finalized, so we will keep you posted with more details.
Are you wondering why these visits are important?
This is a great opportunity for you to experience and later evaluate what kind of
school might be the right fit for you: urban or rural, large or small, private or
public. Also, depending on whether or not you plan on applying to these schools, it
is an opportunity for you to show “demonstrated interest”, an important factor
when applying to a school. If you think that you may be unable to attend one of
these dates please let your Site Coordinator know as soon as possible.

HS juniors who need to be taking the SAT Subject Tests must register for the May
7th test by April 8th, 2016. Please see your guidance counselor ASAP for a fee
waiver (if you’re eligible for free or reduced lunch). Your Site Coordinator will be
helping you register before the deadline during the group meetings. All juniors will
be taking the regular SAT on Saturday, June 4th.
 Monday, April 18th (Patriot’s Day) - LEAP Office Closed, all group sessions and
student meetings are cancelled for that day.
 April 18th-April 22nd (April Break) - There WILL BE NO college student or HS
group meetings during this week. There WILL BE HS senior and parent
Financial Aid award letter meetings during this week as well as campus visits.

Comenzando en Abril, nuestro equipo va a tener sesiones informativas en las
escuelas secundarias de Peabody y Salem para estudiantes de 10mo grado
interesados en unirse al programa el próximo año. Si conoces a alguien que está
interesado, por favor dale su nombre e información de contacto a tu coordinadora
de sitio. Ayúdanos a diseminar la información!
Estudiantes de 11no grado, si estás interesado en participar en este campamento
de verano de preparación para el SAT, la aplicación abrió el 1ro de Marzo y debe
ser enviada antes del 31 de Marzo. La aplicación sólo está disponible a estudiantes
de nuestra organización y a pesar de que tienes hasta el 31 de Marzo para
enviarla, las coordinadoras de sitio tendrán sus propias fechas límites para
asegurarse de que la envíes a tiempo y sin errores. Este es un campamento de
verano gratuito de tres semanas diseñado para mejorar los resultados del SAT de
los estudiantes. Para más información comunícate con tu coordinadora de sitio.
¡Estamos planeando cuatro visitas universitarias en las vacaciones de Abril! Las
fechas tentativas son el Martes 19 de Abril y el Jueves 21 de Abril. El itinerario no

Beginning in the month of February the HS seniors no longer had
their regular individual meetings and were meeting instead on a
case-by-case basis. The group meetings in March will revolve
around topics discussing College Preparedness and financial
literacy. College Preparedness involves discussing what a college
class schedule looks like, living with a roommate, how to speak
with a professor, how to access campus resources, among other
important topics. Financial literacy will help teach students how to
manage money through different financial topics such as credit
cards and checking/savings accounts.
