FROM THE PASTOR
Dear Friends in Christ,
In today’s readings we encounter the whiny, reluctant prophet
Jeremiah. In contrast to Jeremiah we see Jesus embracing a fate that
makes the apostles shake their heads. St. Paul encourages the members
of the Church in Rome to “offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and
pleasing to God…that you may discern what is the will of God…” The deacons assigned to preach will unpack these challenging readings this weekend. I am not with you because of a commitment to the Diocesan Office
of the Propaga on of the Faith. Our parish is in a blessed posi on to be a
part of the Missionary Co-Op whereby we go out to other parishes in the
Diocese to make them aware of the local need here in East Hillsboro
County in the area of Migrant Ministry. We are doing all that we can as a
parish but this ministry is larger than any one parish can handle. This
weekend I am presiding and preaching at all of the liturgies at Sacred
Heart Church in St. Joseph near Dade City, FL. in Pasco County. On September 10th and 11th I will be doing an MCP assignment at St. Theresa in
Spring Hill. On October 8th & 9th I’ll be doing the same at St. Thomas Aquinas in New Port Richey. It is my hope that by then our new priest will arrive.
I recently received word that the priest originally scheduled to
come here at the end of August will not be coming. Instead, we will be
blessed with the presence of a priest from the Philippines currently assigned to a parish in Pinellas County. Msgr. Cesar Pa lla is very humble
about his formal tle and I do believe he would prefer to be called
“father” rather than “monsignor.” As he explained it to me in a phone
conversa on, when his Archbishop in the Philippines honored him with
the tle it was more like a consola on prize because they had no need for
a bishop at the me. The laughter on the phone and the humor with
which he told the story gave me a sense that he will fit in here nicely. Like
me, Father Cesar can celebrate Mass in Spanish but would prefer to have
a Deacon to preach. He will not be arriving un l October 10th so pa ence
will prove to be a virtue.
Thank you for your generosity in the second collec on last weekend. You came through with nearly $ 4,000.00 of dona ons in a very
tough economy. Thank you also for keeping up with your commitment to
the regular collec ons and the Annual Pastoral Appeal. We haven’t
reached our goal yet but your fidelity throughout the summer months
when it is normally very thin have been keeping up with our expenses for
the most part for which I am very, very grateful. I also want to thank Fr.
Rafael for his willingness to cover mul ple Masses when I am off doing
MCP assignments and Deacons Manuel, Neil, and Kevin for preaching…
some mes back to back weekends. Thank you all for your pa ence as I
am not with you due to the MCP schedule presented above and one last
Engaged Encounter weekend coming up in late September.
Peace in Christ

entonces nuestro nuevo sacerdote haya llegado.
Todavía no
