La iglesia original, de estilo renacentista, data de 1560. De
esta apenas se pueden adivinar los rasgos pues, posteriormente, tras el terremoto de Lisboa de 1755, Pedro de Silva
y Ambrosio de Figueroa añadieron dos naves laterales, dos
capillas y una sacristía, ya en el estilo barroco imperante
en la época.
The primitive Renaissance church dates back to 1560. But
the outlines of this one can be barely recognised because
lately, after the Lisbon earthquake of 1755, the architects
Pedro de Silva and Ambrosio de Figueroa added two side
naves, two chapels and a sacristy, with the Baroque prevailing style of that time.
Todo esto dio lugar a una imponente iglesia de cinco naves
y planta cuadrada con las esquinas redondeadas, cuya bóveda central es de media naranja.
All of this result in a magnificent church with five naves and
square floor plan with rounded corners, whose central vault
has the shape of half orange.
El desnivel del terreno se salva situando al templo sobre
un porche que lo rodea bajo el cual se sitúa la cripta del
monumento.
Placing the temple on a porch surrounding it under which
there are old crypts solves the slope of the land.
La torre, construida en el XVIII sobre la anterior del siglo
XVI, tiene una caña lisa con tres cuerpos y un campanario
sobre el que se levanta un gran pináculo piramidal.
En el interior destacan por su belleza la capilla sacramental,
el púlpito de forja de 1700, la capilla de las Ánimas, la capilla bautismal con la pila de 1772, la de la Virgen del Pilar,
la de “los blancos”, la sacristía, con muebles, orfebrería y
cuadros del XVII y XVIII y, por último, el retablo de mampostería de 1650, donde se ubica el camarín, construido
en 1781, de la patrona de Valverde: la Virgen del Reposo.
The tower, built in the XVIIIth century over the previous one
from the XVIth century, has a smooth shaft with three bodies and a bell tower on top of which there is a pyramidal
pinnacle.
Inside some elements get the attention because of their
beauty: the sacramental chapel, the ironwork pulpit from
1700, the chapel of las Ánimas, the baptismal chapel with
the basin from 1772, the chapel of the Virgen del Pilar; the
chapel of ‘los blancos’, the sacristy with furniture, pictures
and goldsmith from the XVII and XVIIIth centuries and the
masonry altarpiece from 1650, where there is the alcove
of the Patron Saint of Valverde, Virgen del Reposo, built in
1781.
