To avoid damaging the weighing system, do not turn the balance/scale over so that it rests on the weighing pan/load plate. § Push out the panel on the bottom of the balance/scale. § Insert the interface. § Make sure the interface snaps into place. § Guide the cable through the channel/raceway. 4 Intended Use of YADAP USB Adapter This USB interface adapter is a solution that enables direct connection of the balance/scale to a computer on the USB (universal serial bus) port. The USB interface is implemented as a virtual serial interface over RS-232 (virtual COM port). For the application program running on the computer, there is no difference whether the serial interface is installed in the PC or enabled in the form of a virtual interface. The interface offers the same capabilities in either case. The equipment supplied with the USB interface adapter includes a CD containing the software drivers you need to set up a virtual interface on your computer. System Requirements for the YADAP-USB Adapter – Computer (PC) running the Windows 98®, Windows 98SE®, Windows ME®, Windows 2000® or Windows XP® operating system – Available USB port (Type A, 4-pin, female) Configuring the USB Interface The USB cable terminates in a 4-pin male Type A USB connector. 1. Switch on the computer and make sure the USB port is activated and functional. 2. Plug the USB cable into the USB port on the computer and switch on the balance/scale. Windows® detects the USB device and runs the Wizard for adding/removing hardware. 5 Installing the Drivers for the USB Interface 1. Place the enclosed CD in your computer's CD-ROM drive. 2. Each version of Windows® may have slightly different procedures for uploading the driver from the CD. All versions have a Wizard for adding and removing hardware, which guides you through the process. 3. After you click on “Finish” at the end of the process, the virtual port should be ready to operate. Windows® usually adds the virtual port in the position following your highest-numbered COM port. For example, on a PC with 4 COM ports, the virtual interface is added as COM5 (shown in the Device Manager). If you use the USB interface with a program that limits the number of COM port designations (e.g., only COM1 through COM4), you may have to assign one of these port numbers to the new virtual port. Port numbers are assigned under “Port Settings” in the Device Manager, opened from (My Computer ) Control Panel System Properties Hardware. 6 Configuration Parameter Settings (Menu Navigation) Purpose Configuring the balance/scale and its data interface to meet individual requirements by selecting from among the predefined parameters in the operating menu. Automatic Data Output In the “auto print" operating mode, data is output to the interface port without a print command. You can have data output automatically at defined print intervals, with or without the stability parameter. The length of a print interval depends on the setting for “Adapting the filter" (menu item 1 1 x). If you activate the auto print setting, data will be transmitted immediately the moment you turn on the balance/scale.
