Jesus Christ, King of the Universe (Cycle A)
Pastor’s Corner
This Sunday we celebrate the feast of Christ the King. Our readings remind us
that Christ is both King and Judge. Precisely because today is the last Sunday of
the liturgical year, the Church looks to the future with hope, towards that hour
when there will be a new heaven and a new earth, towards that day when Christ
will return to exercise his power to judge as King.
Today’s gospel transports us to the day of the Lord’s coming. From this passage
we know that, in judging, Christ will apply only one law, the law of love. On that
day, our only defense will be having loved our brothers and sisters, and our only
condemnation will be based on our having been insensitive to our neighbor’s
sorrows. And so I invite you to ask yourselves these questions: how do we live
our life? Is there love or indifference in our heart? Because on that day what we
have been in this world, whether loving or selfish, will be revealed.
What Jesus Christ asks of us is that we be Christ to others and to treat them as
we would treat Him. This week we celebrate the feast of Thanksgiving. My wish
for you is that we share as a family that infinite love which Jesus alone can give
us. Happy Thanksgiving!

Rincón del Párroco
Este domingo celebramos la fiesta de Cristo Rey. Las lecturas de hoy nos dicen que
Cristo es Rey y Juez. Precisamente porque hoy es el último domingo del año litúrgico, la
Iglesia mira con esperanza hacia el futuro, hacia esa hora en que habrá un cielo nuevo
y una tierra nueva, hacia ese día en que Cristo volverá para ejercer su poder de Rey y
juzgar.
El evangelio del día de hoy nos transporta hacia ese día de la venida del Señor. Por
este pasaje sabemos que Jesucristo en su juicio, aplicará solo un criterio, el del amor.
Ese día, nuestra única defensa será el haber amado a nuestros hermanos y nuestra
única condenación será haber sido insensibles al dolor de nuestro prójimo. Y yo les
invito a que se hagan estas preguntas: ¿cómo vivimos nuestra vida? ¿Hay en nuestro
corazón amor o indiferencia? Porque ese día se revelará lo que hemos sido en este
mundo: amantes o egoístas.
Lo que Jesucristo nos pide es que seamos Cristo para los demás y que tratemos a los
otros como trataríamos a Cristo. En esta semana que viene en que celebramos la fiesta
de acción de gracias yo les deseo que compartamos en familia el amor infinito que solo
Jesús nos puede dar. ¡Feliz día de Acción de Gracias!

November 15th. Ms. Brugger, a winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council
Auditions in 2012, delighted those present with her art and charmed them with her
warm, outgoing personality. The parish thanks the concert series executive committee
for bringing her to St. Hugh.

Saints this Week/Santos de la Semana
November 25, St. Catherine of Alexandria. According to
the Legend of St. Catherine, this young woman converted to
Christianity after receiving a vision. At the age of 18, she
debated 50 pagan philosophers. Amazed at her wisdom and
debating skills, they became Christians—as did about 200
soldiers and members of the emperor’s family. All of them
were martyred.
Sentenced to be executed on a spiked wheel, Catherine
touched the wheel and it shattered. She was beheaded.
Centuries later, angels are said to have carried the body of
St. Catherine to a monastery at the foot of Mt. Sinai.
Devotion to her spread as a result of the Crusades. She was
invoked as the patroness of students, teachers, librarians
and lawyers. Catherine is one of the 14 Holy Helpers,
venerated especially in Germany and Hungary.
Noviembre 25, Santa Catalina de Alejandría. De acuerdo
a la Leyenda de Santa Catalina, esta joven se convirtió al
cristianismo luego de recibir una visión. A los 18 años sostuvo un
debate con 50 filósofos paganos quienes, admirados de su
sabiduría, se hicieron cristianos junto con unos 200 soldados y
miembros de la familia del emperador. Todos fueron mártires.
Sentenciada a ser ejecutada en una rueda con púas, la rueda se
desbarató al tocarla Catalina, y fue decapitada. Se dice que los
ángeles llevaron su cuerpo al monasterio que lleva su nombre al
pie del Monte Sinaí. Su devoción se extendió como resultado de
las cruzadas. Es patrona de estudiantes, maestros, bibliotecarios
y abogados, y es especialmente venerada en Alemania y Hungría.

God trusts us

Jesus does not ask us to preserve his grace in a safe … but instead wants
us to put it to the good of others. All the gifts that we have received are to be
given to others, and in this way they grow. … And as for us, what have we
done with them? Who have we 'infected' with our faith? How many people
have we encouraged with our hope? How much love have we shared with
our neighbour? … Also, the Lord does not give everyone the same things, or
in the same way: he knows us personally and entrusts what it right for us,
but there is one thing that is the same in everyone: the same, immense trust.
God trusts us, God has hope in us. Let us not disappoint Him! Let us not be
deceived by fear, but rather reciprocate trust with trust.

hacemos con ellos? ¿A quién hemos ''contagiado'' con nuestra fe? ¿A
cuántas personas hemos alentado con nuestra esperanza? ¿Cuánto amor
hemos compartido con nuestro prójimo?... El Señor no da a todos lo mismo,
ni de la misma manera: nos conoce personalmente y nos confía aquello que
es justo para nosotros; pero en todos, en todos hay algo igual: la misma,
inmensa confianza. Dios se fía de nosotros, Dios tiene esperanza en
nosotros. Esto es igual para todos ¡No le defraudemos! ¡No nos dejemos
engañar por el miedo, al contrario, devolvamos confianza por confianza!

Court of Dreams
On November 12th, the boys’ JV and
Varsity basketball teams had a
wonderful experience of competing
against St. Agnes Catholic School on the
Miami HEAT court. The game was
played at the American Airlines Arena
prior to the Miami HEAT vs Indiana
PACERS game. This was a unique
experience that allowed our athletes a chance to share the court with NBA legends and have an
experience that will last a lifetime. Our St. Hugh hip hop dancers also participated during this
event by entertaining the spectators during half-time. We are very proud of all the students who
participated and grateful to all who came out to support our athletes.
ISSF Spelling Bee
Recently four of our fifth grade students
participated in the 7th Annual ISSF Spelling
Bee held at the Coral Gables Women’s Club.
They earned 6th place out of 23 participating
schools. Good job girls. Thank you for your
hard work.
