C.U. Succeed Scholarship Program
Golden Plains Credit Union supported our members with $10,000 in scholarships for the 2014/2015 school year.
Twenty students from different high schools throughout the state received money to pay for college. These
scholarship recipients were strong in academics and active in their communities. GPCU has been awarding
student members since 2007 and has awarded $45,000 over that time.

Cash strapped college students are being targeted in a scam referred to
as “card cracking.” These college students are typically recruited through
social media, and in-person on college campuses.

Using ATM/Debit cards and PINs (willingly provided by the students)
fraudsters deposit fraudulent (stolen or counterfeit) checks to the students’
accounts. The funds are withdrawn by the fraudsters and then the
fraudulent checks are subsequently returned unpaid and charged back to the
students’ accounts. Following the fraudster’s instructions, the participants
report their ATM/debit card as lost or stolen and say that the transactions
were fraudulent.

Since the college students willingly provide their card and PIN to the
fraudster, they may not be entitled to protection and then end up having to
pay back the charged back amount. In order to avoid this, please do not
ever give out your debit/ATM card and PIN. You are essentially giving
someone free access to your checking account and the funds in it.

Fraude de Tarjetas Atacan a Estudiantes
Universitarios
Estudiantes universitarios con poco efectivo están en la mira de una estafa de
tarjetas. Estos estudiantes universitarios se reclutan normalmente a través de las
redes sociales, y en persona en los campus universitarios.
El uso de tarjetas ATM / débito y PIN (voluntariamente proporcionados por los
estudiantes) defraudadores depositar cheques fraudulentos (robados o falsificados)
