Without God’s grace, it would have been impossible for Mary to be sinless, and she too would be like the rest of humanity. However, because of her decision to say, “yes” in giving birth to Christ, she was given a special privilege by having no sin touch her. In December, we begin again the fulfillment of Isaiah's prophecy "...for a child is born to us, a son is given us; upon his shoulder dominion rests, they name Him Wonder-counselor, God-hero, Father forever, Prince of Peace. His dominion is vast and forever peaceful...."Isaiah 9: 6-7. Jesus is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end! (Rev.) Yes, here we are in Advent. How well I remember buying advent calendars for my grandchildren. They would open as many windows as they could, all at once, despite my reminders that they must do just one a day. I guess we never lose that urge to live in tomorrow and leave today. Someone once told me: “Margaret keep your head where your feet are!” Physically, now, that is impossible, but metaphorically speaking is very good advice. My dear sisters and brothers, let us support each other during this time of preparation. Let us be kind to others in lines at the stores—a smile goes a long way—let us remember the poor as well as our families and friends. Let us set aside more time each day to read the Scriptures. That's one way of seeking God's direction for us and too, it's a way of saying, “Hey Jesus, I love you! I need You.” Let us pray for our government -that the voice of the people be heard and that it works for their good and their needs. Let us pray for understanding and peace among the races. I believe most people are good at heart and that it only takes a tiny devil to stir up mass negativity and revolt. A prayer each day to St. Michael is a powerful deterrent! We pray for the sick, all the hard working caregivers, those with addictions, their families, those in nursing homes and hospitals. Remember those suffering from loss of a loved one, and especially pray for those suffering with depression. May Jesus bless and protect our priests and all those who love and work for St Mark's church. We pray for peace in the world and ask the Prince of Peace for Blessings from His precious, tiny infant Hands.
