EIT (European Institute of Innovation and
Technology)
The EIT is an EU body that enhances Europe’s ability to innovate
by nurturing young entrepreneurial talent and supporting new
ideas through the Knowledge and Innovation Communities (KICs).
The EIT is the first EU initiative bringing
together the three sides of the “knowledge
triangle”: business (companies and SMEs),
higher education institutions and research
centres. Important: no basic science; no R&D
in itself
The EIT aims to increase the cooperation and integration between higher
education, business and research to facilitate the transition from:
student to
entrepreneur
idea to product
lab to customer

2015 is the startup year:
 EITRM Start Up Grant Agreement with EIT (SUGA): signed
 EITRM legal entity: registered
 Interim managers, committees, officers: in place
 Calls for projects: 2 closed; 1 in preparation
CLC legal form (legal entity or consortium agreement): ongoing
CLC partners agreements e co-signatures: under discussion
EITRM Business Plan 2016 approval by EIT: september
Permanent (NB non-interim) staff in place: Q4
CO-signatures completed at KIC and CLC level: December
2016 is the take-off year:
First business plan running; overall BP covers 2016-2022
All 15 activities running (Education, Research, Business creation)
