In North America, Sasol is studying numerous expansion opportunities
and already has operations in Arizona, California, Louisiana, Oklahoma,
Pennsylvania and Texas.
In 2012, Sasol announced it would begin front-end engineering and
design work for an ethane cracker and derivatives complex and a
gas-to-liquids (GTL) facility to be located near Westlake, Louisiana.
Together, the two projects are expected to create more than 1,200
full-time jobs, more than 5,000 construction jobs and thousands
of indirect jobs in Louisiana and across the United States. The final
investment decision for the ethane cracker project will be taken in
2014 with the GTL following 24 months later.

Most pipelines are buried underground. You most likely drive
over pipelines each day and never realize it. Line markers, like
the one below, are used to indicate the approximate location
of pipelines. You can spot these markers where a pipeline
intersects a street, highway or railroad.
The markers identify the material transported in the line,
the name of the pipeline operator and a telephone number
where the company can be reached in the event of an
emergency.

There are a number of things you
should do if you suspect a pipeline
leak:
• Stop using all spark or flame-producing equipment (pilot lights on water heaters, furnaces or kitchen ranges, electric
motors, etc.)
• Do not smoke
• Notify your local fire or police department
• Call the responsible company listed on the pipeline marker
• Evacuate from the area
• Do not drive into escaping gas or liquid
• Do not attempt to operate a valve or plug a leak.
