What is the World Meeting of Families?
September 22-27
Called together from all over the world
in celebration of the family,
the sanctuary of love and life.
WMOF was conceived by Saint Pope John
Paul II in 1992 to look at strengthening the
sacred bonds of the family unit across the
globe. The first WMOF took place in Rome
in 1994, the International Year of the Family. Every three
years since 1994, families from all over the world are invited by the Holy Father to attend this global gathering.
At the conference, families share their thoughts, dialogue,
and prayers, working together to grow as individuals and
family units.
Our theme, “Love Is Our Mission: The Family Fully
Alive” was inspired by the early Church Father, St. Irenaeus, who wrote “the Glory of God is man fully alive.” The
glory of men and women is their capacity to love as God
loves – and no better means exists to teach the meaning of
love than the family. His Holiness, Pope Francis also inspired the theme. He embodies the message of mercy, joy
and love at the heart of the Gospel.

El EMF fue concebido por el Santo Papa
Juan Pablo II en 1992, con la visión de fortalecer los vínculos sagrados de la unidad familiar en todo el mundo. El primer EMF se llevó a cabo en
Roma en 1994, el Año Internacional de la Familia. Desde
1994, cada tres años, el Santo Padre invita a las familias
de todas partes del mundo a que participen en este encuentro mundial. En la conferencia, las familias comparten sus
pensamientos, sus diálogos y sus oraciones, trabajando
juntos para crecer como individuos y como unidades familiares.
Nuestro tema, “El Amor es Nuestra Misión: La Familia
Plenamente Viva”, fue inspirado por uno de los primeros
padres de la iglesia, San Ireneo, quien escribió “la Gloria
de Dios es el hombre plenamente vivo”. La gloria del
hombre y de la mujer es su capacidad de amar como Dios
ama y no hay mejores medios para enseñar el significado
