I was ordained to the priesthood in 1968 as simple priest and
finished theology in 1969. I volunteered to go to
Puerto Rico as a missionary as the island is part of
our Capuchin province and landed there in September of 1969.
The years in Puerto are memorable not only because of the beauty of the island but the beauty of
the people. I still have many friends from those
days. In Puerto Rico I served as a parochial vicar,
director of a retreat house for youth, director of our
post novices and chaplain at Sacred Heart University. In 1996 I was elected vice provincial for the
vice province of Puerto Rico and in my second term
went to Rome for our general chapter and to my
surprise was elected to the general council of the
Order for a term of six years.
The experience in Rome was unbelievable. Getting to know
the Order and the Church on an international level is an experience that cannot be measured. I traveled all over the world
as my job as councilor include representing England, Ireland,
and Malta in Europe; the United States and Canada; Australia and Guam. In addition to that I was the general assistant
for the Capuchin Poor Clares worldwide.
Upon my return to the United States I was assigned to Harrisburg, PA where I resided at St. Francis Friary and worked
for the diocese as Secretary for Catholic Life and Evangelization for four years. When the pastor of St. Francis was changed
I became the pastor of the parish which is about 65% Latino.
As of July 1, I am here in Philadelphia residing in our friary
of Padre Pio in West Philadelphia where our new candidates
arrive before novitiate and ministering at Annunciation Parish and St. Thomas Aquinas.
Fui ordenado sacerdote en 1968 como un simple sacerdote y finalizé teología en 1969. Me ofrecí de
voluntario para ir a Puerto Rico como
misionero ya que la isla es parte de nuestra
provincia capuchina y llegué allí en septiembre
de 1969.
Los años en Puerto Rico son memorables, no
sólo por la belleza de la isla sino por la belleza
de las personas también. Todavía tengo muchos amigos de aquellos días. En Puerto Rico
serví como vicario parroquial, director de una
casa de retiro para jóvenes, director de
nuestros post novicios y de capellán en la Universidad Sacred Heart . En 1996 fui elegido vice
provincial para la vice provincia de
Puerto Rico y en mi segundo período fui a Roma para nuestro Capítulo General y para mi sorpresa fui
elegido consejero general de la Orden por un período de
seis años.
La experiencia en Roma fue increíble. Conocer la
Orden y la Iglesia a nivel internacional es una
experiencia inmensurable. Viajé por el mundo ya que mi
trabajo como concejero incluye representar Inglaterra,
Irlanda, y Malta en Europa; los Estados Unidos y Canadá;
Australia y Guam. Además de eso fui el asistente general
para la Orden de las Clarisas Capuchinas mundialmente.
A mi regreso a los Estados Unidos, fui asignado a
Harrisburg, PA, donde viví en el Monasterio San Francis
y trabajé para la diócesis como secretario para la Oficina
de Vida Católica y Evangelización por cuatro años.
Cuando cambiaron al párroco de San Francis, me
nombraron el párroco de la parroquia que aproximadamente es 65% latina.
Desde el 1ro de julio, estoy aquí, en Filadelfia, viviendo
en nuestro monasterio del Padre Pío en el oeste de
Filadelfia donde nuestros nuevos candidatos llegan
antes del noviciado, y sirviendo en las parroquias
Anunciación y Sto. Tomás de Aquino.

“To what shall we compare the kingdom of God or what parable can we use for it? It is like a mustard seed that,
when it is sown in the ground, is the smallest of all the seeds on the earth…” Mark 4:30
Sister Marian Vincent has been our parish DRE for the past 10 years. And now she will be
ministering to the sisters at Camilla Hall, the retirement home for the Immaculate Heart sisters.
Today’s parable on the mustard seed has caused me to reflect on the work of Sister Marian
Vincent at our parish. When she arrived here in 2005 she was basically handed a mustard
seed of religious education at Holy Innocents. When our schools were consolidated in 2003,
religious education was being done at St. Joachim parish. When Sister Vincent arrived here we
decided that we needed our own CCD program. The seed was planted. And through her
amazing dedication, her tireless efforts, and her great love for God’s people, Sister Vincent has grown the largest of plants for all to
“dwell in its shade.” Yes, from a mere seed, our religious education program has blossomed into the following:
- a CCD program with over 25 catechists/teachers and 320 students
- a parish youth group that attracts 25 to 40 teenagers every Tuesday
- a Liturgy of the Word for 50 to 60 children every Sunday
- a sacramental preparation program for children and their parents.
And these are the visible branches of this large plant. There are many, many things that Sister Vincent has done at Holy Innocents, from her work with the RCIA program, to her ministry with our Hispanic community, to serving on many committees, that
most people are not aware of. And she does it all without fanfare or seeking praise. She does it all in faithfulness to her vocation
as a sister of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, demonstrating a profound love of God and neighbor to all who know and love
her. On behalf of the entire parish, benefitting from the shade of the large plant you have grown, I extend my sincere gratitude for
all that you have done for God’s children and for all of us.

EN NOMBRE DE LA OFICINA HISPANA PARA CATÓLICOS HISPANOS
«A qué se parece el Reino de Dios? ¿Con qué comparación lo podíamos expresar? Es semejante a una semilla de mostaza; al sembrarla es la más pequeña de
todas las semillas que se echan en la tierra…» Mark 4:30-31
La hermana Marian Vincent ha sido nuestra DRE (Directora de Educación Religiosa), en la parroquia, durante los últimos
10 años. Y ahora ella va a servir a las hermanas en Camilla Hall, la casa de retiro de las hermanas del Inmaculado Corazón.
La parábola de la semilla de mostaza me ha hecho reflexionar sobre el trabajo de la hermana Marian Vincent en nuestra
parroquia. Cuando llegó aquí a Santos Inocentes en el 2005 a ella le fue entregada básicamente una semilla de mostaza de
educación religiosa. Al consolidarse nuestras escuelas en el año 2003, se hacía la educación religiosa en la parroquia San
Joaquín. Cuando la hermana Vincent llegó aquí decidimos que necesitábamos nuestro propio programa de CCD (Educación
Religiosa). La semilla fue plantada, y a través de su dedicación increíble, sus incansables esfuerzos y su gran amor por el
pueblo de Dios, la hermana Vincent ha logrado la más grande de las plantas para que todos puedan «buscar refugio bajo su
sombra». Sí, de una simple semilla, nuestro programa de educación religiosa ha florecido en lo siguiente:
- un programa de CCD con más de 25 catequistas y profesores y 320 alumnos
- un grupo parroquial de jóvenes que atrae de 25-40 adolescentes cada martes
- una Liturgia de la Palabra cada domingo para 50 o 60 niños
- un programa de preparación sacramental para los niños y sus padres
Y estas son las ramas visibles de esta gran planta. Hay muchas, muchas cosas que la hermana Vincent ha realizado en Santos Inocentes de las cuales muchas personas no se han percatado, como su trabajo con el programa de RICA, su ministerio a nuestra comunidad hispana, y su servicio en muchos comités. Y ella lo hace todo sin fanfarria ni búsqueda de alabanza.
Ella lo hace todo en la fidelidad a su vocación como una hermana del Corazón Inmaculado de María (IHM por sus siglas en
inglés), demostrando un profundo amor de Dios y al prójimo a todos los que la conocen y quieren. En nombre de toda la
parroquia, que se ha beneficiado de la sombra de la gran planta que ha crecido, extiendo mi sincero agradecimiento por
todo lo que ha hecho por los hijos de Dios y por todos nosotros.

THE MIRACULOUS MEDAL SHRINE IS WAITING FOR YOUR VISIT
The Central Association of the Miraculous Medal welcomes Claudia
Strohm as Assistant Director of Latino Development. She will
assist the Central Association with outreach, programming and materials
geared toward the significant numbers of Catholics visiting our Shrine
whose first language is Spanish. Our goal is to help our Latin community
feel more at home here at the Miraculous Medal Shrine.
Claudia, of Colombia, South America, grew up with a strong Catholic faith
which includes a strong devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. “Praying the
Rosary and the presence of the Virgin Mary have been my strength in every moment of my life, especially in difficult times,” says Claudia, who moved to the United States in 2009. She and her husband,
Richard, are members of St. Ephrem Parish in Bucks County.
“I’m very excited to be here at the Miraculous Medal Shrine,” says Claudia. “I would love to have all of
you make a pilgrimage here to visit the Shrine of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal and pray the Novena prayers. I look forward to meeting with you and to hearing your suggestions
and ideas.”

EL SANTUARIO DE LA MEDALLA MILAGROSA DE MARIA ESTÁ A LA
ESPERA DE SU VISITA
La Asociación Central de la Medalla Milagrosa da la bienvenida a Claudia Strohm,
Asistente de Dirección para el Desarollo Latino. Ella asistirá a la Asociación
con el alcance, programación y materiales dirigidos al significativo número de católicos
que visitan nuestro santuario y su primera lengua es el español. Nuestra meta es hacer
sentir en casa a nuestra comunidad latina en el santuario .
Claudia, de Colombia, Sur America, creció con una fuerte fé católica y una devoción a la Santísima
Virgen María. «Rezar el rosario y la presencia de la Virgen María me han fortalecido en cada momento
de mi vida, especialmente en los momentos más dificiles», dice Claudia, quien está en Estados Unidos
desde el 2009. Ella y su esposo, Richard, son miembros de la parroquia de San Ephrem en el condado
de Bucks.
«Estoy muy emocionada de estar aquí en El Santuario de la Medalla Milagrosa», dice Claudia. «Me encantaría tenerlos aquí con sus peregrinaciones y orando las novenas a nuestra Virgen María. Espero
conocerlos pronto y escuchar sus sugerencias e ideas.»
