9:30 a.m. Michigan Governor Rick Snyder will serve as Honorary
Chair and Guest Speaker at this year’s event.
The event will be emceed by Huel Perkins of FOX 2 News with this
year’s focus being “on the Road to Economic Growth”. We will also
salute this year’s honorees for their outstanding work and dedication to
our community.

Michigan’s Only Bilingual Business Conference
Returns to Southwest Detroit for Its 4th Year!
The Southwest Detroit Business
Association (SDBA), in partnership with
PNC Bank, The Center for Empowerment
and Economic Development (CEED), the
U.S. Small Business Administration
Office(SBA) - Michigan District Office, the
Internal Revenue Service, Detroit SCORE
and the Michigan Small Business and
Technology Development Center (MI
SBTDC) will present the Annual Hispanic
Business Conference, on Saturday,
September 8, 2012 at the Mexicantown
International Mercado, from 8:30 am to 12
noon.
The event targets both current and aspiring small business owners whose first language is Spanish, offering essential business
information to develop entrepreneurial skills
and build a strong business foundation. It
will also explore challenges, and provide recommendations based on proven strategies,
and best practices.
Following the main presentation by the MI SBTDC, attendees will participate in roundtable discussions to further help
them in their business. The
Roundtables will include presentations by local resource
providers covering business
related topics such as financing,
procurement, accounting, and
obtaining tax credits.

¡Agregue la Celebración del Cinco de Mayo 2012 a
la lista de eventos conmovedores e inolvidables en el
suroeste de Detroit! Este año la celebración se prolongó por dos días. El fin de semana se puso en marcha el sábado, 5 de mayo con una fiesta al aire libre
en la calle 21 y Bagely, en el distrito Mexicatown. La
fiesta continuó en el segundo día, domingo, 6 de mayo
con el Desfile del Cinco de Mayo. El desfile viajó del
Parque Patton al Parque Clark y capturó la belleza de
la cultura mexicana a través de carrozas tradicionales, grupos de Charroa, y las bandas latinas.
Visitantes de toda el área Metropolitana de Detroit se
unieron a la celebración de la historia de México centrada en la familia, la música, la comida, el entretenimiento y las artes.

Knocking out a tooth tears the periodontal ligaments, but some might still
cling to the tooth root and reinserting
can allow for these to reattach to the
bone and gum tissue.
Smoking or moving the fragile tooth
with the tongue or finger reduces the
chances of reattachment. If it feels like
it’s in the way when you bite or hurts to
bite, a dentist needs to realign and
splint it with a wire or mesh bonded to
adjacent teeth to stabilize it.
When the tooth reattaches, the tissue
inside can still die because the nerve and
blood vessels were torn. In this case you
will need a root canal treatment.
Also, the tooth need only be bumped
hard and not come all the way out for
the pulp to die, so see a dentist for proper evaluation and treatment.

ser golpeado duramente sin caerse completamente para que la pulpa se muera,
así que visite a un dentista para una
evaluación y un tratamiento adecuado.

Today was another very
special day at Detroit Cristo
Rey High School. This morning,
we had a special student
assembly to celebrate the fact
that 100% of our seniors have
been accepted to college!
Mrs. Rowe commended the
seniors for their growth from
our first day in August, 2008
(when the school wasn’t even ready for us, due to renovations) until
today. In addition to her announcement of 100% college acceptance,
she also announced that the Class of 2012 has been offered over
$1,000,000 in scholarships and financial aid! Mrs. Rowe and the academic team’s efforts are amazing.
While everyone was gathered, I shared a little story with the students about a national magazine reporter who, two years ago, openly
questioned whether Detroit Cristo Rey could legitimately be called a
college prep school. I don’t think anyone is questioning that now!
It was a “Top 10” day--and we know that today's celebration
could not have taken place without the generous support we receive
from so many people. Thank you so much!

Southwestern High School Students Work to Save Their School

school: “We have to save our school, Roy
Roberts isn’t cool!” students chanted outside
of Southwestern High School on Friday,
April 20 as vehicles passing by “honked” in
support of keeping the school open.
