attend a Pre-Jordan meeting prior to baptism, which is arranged
at a mutually convenient time.

Dear Parishioners,
As the church celebrates
the Third Sunday of Advent
(Gaudate Sunday) we are
invited to rejoice as we
commemorate the birth of the Savior. I have long
believed that a strong faith, good friends, a good
prayer life, and a sense of humor … will serve you
well in the pursuit of the Christian lifestyle. In this
light, I would like to share with you a cute story that
might indeed bring a smile to your face and a little joy
to your morning.
Timmy was a little five year old boy that his
Mom loved very much, and being a worrier, she was
concerned about him walking to school all by himself
when he started kindergarten. She walked him to
school the first few days, but one day he came home
and asked if he could walk by himself. He wanted to
be like the "big boys."
Not wanting to disappoint him, she decided to
allow him to walk without her, via plan B (which
consisted of recruiting a neighbor, Mrs. Goodnest, to
repetitiously follow him to school, at a distance far
enough behind him that he would not likely notice he
was being followed, but close enough to keep a watch
on him.
Mrs. Goodnest was agreeable, since she was
up early with her own toddler anyway, and it would
be a good way for them to get some exercise. So, the
very next school day Mrs. Goodnest and her little girl,
Marcy, set out to follow behind Timmy as he walked
to school. Timmy was accompanied by another
neighbor boy he knew.
As the boys walked to school each day,
chatting, and kicking stones and twigs, the little friend
of Timmy began to notice that a lady seemed to be
following them every day.
"Have you noticed that lady following us all
week? Do you know her?" he asked Timmy.
"Yea, I know who she is," Timmy replied.
"Well who is she?"
"That's just Shirley Goodnest," Timmy said.
"Shirley Goodnest? Who the is she? Why is
she following us?"
"Well," Timmy explained, "Every night Mom
makes me say the 23rd Psalm in my prayers 'cuz she
worries about me so much. And in it the Psalm says,
'Shirley Goodnest and Marcy shall follow me all the
days of my life,' so I guess I'll just have to get used to
it."

OPENING OF HOLY DOOR FOR JUBILEE
YEAR OF MERCY
The Archdiocese of Philadelphia has granted
five Shrines the privilege of opening Holy Doors for the
Jubilee Year of Mercy, proclaimed by Pope Francis.
The opening of the Holy Door is meant to symbolize
the portal of Mercy and welcome, offered to all for
healing and forgiveness in the world.
So we at the St. John Neumann Shrine will
celebrate the opening of the Holy Door at the 12:15
p.m. Mass on Saturday, December 19, 2015. We hope
you can join us.
After we bless the Holy Door on that day, you
may ‘walk through’ the door and at the same time
receive a plenary indulgence if you receive the
sacrament of confession/ reconciliation within one
week, and receive communion. You may also gain an
indulgence for someone else if you have the opportunity
to walk through the door again.

DEL ESCRITORIO DEL PASTOR
Queridos Feligreses,
A medida que la Iglesia
celebra el Tercer Domingo de
Adviento (Domingo Gaudete)
estamos invitados a alegrarnos al
conmemorar el nacimiento del
Salvador. Siempre he creído que
una fe fuerte, buenos amigos, una buena vida de
oración, y un sentido del humor ... son muy útiles en la
búsqueda de el estilo de vida Cristiana. En este sentido,
me gustaría compartir con ustedes una historia linda que
podría, de hecho, traer una sonrisa a su rostro y un poco
de alegría a su mañana.
Timmy era un niñito de cinco años que su
mamá quería mucho, y estaba preocupada por él
caminando a la escuela por sí mismo cuando empezó el
kindergarten. Ella lo acompañó a la escuela los primeros
días, pero un día llegó a casa y le preguntó si podía
caminar por sí mismo. Él quería ser como los "niños
grandes".
Como no quería decepcionarlo, ella permitió
dejarlo caminar sin ella, a través de un plan B (que
consistía en contratar a una vecina, la Señora Buendad
para seguirlo repetitivamente a la escuela, a una
distancia lo suficientemente lejos detrás de él para que
él probablemente no notara que estaba siendo seguido,
pero lo suficientemente cerca para mantener una
vigilancia sobre él.
La Señora Buendad estaba dispuesta a hacerlo,
ya que ella se levantaba temprano de todas maneras con
su pequeña niña, y esto sería una buena forma de hacer
ejercicio. Así que el próximo día escolar la Señora
Buendad y su pequeña Amor salieron a seguir a Timmy
mientras el caminaba hacia la escuela. Timmy era
acompañado por otro niño de la vecindad que él
conocía.
Mientras los niños caminaban todos los días,
golpeando a patadas las piedras y las ramitas del
camino, el amiguito de Timmy comenzó a notar que una
señora aparentemente los estaba siguiendo todos los
días.
Él le preguntó a Timmy, “¿Has notado que esa
señora nos ha estado siguiendo toda la semana? ¿La
conoces?”
“Sí, yo la conozco,” replicó Timmy.
“Bien, ¿quién es ella?”
“Esa es Señora Buendad,” dijo Timmy.
“¿Señora Buendad? ¿Quién es? ¿Por qué nos
sigue?”
“Bueno” explicó Timmy, “Todas las noches
Mami me hacer decir el Salmo 23 en mis oraciones
porque ella se preocupa mucho por mí. Y en el Salmo
dice “Buendad y Amor me seguirán todos los días de mi
vida,” así que, tendré que acostumbrarme.”

APERTURA DE LA PUERTA SANTA PARA EL
AÑO JUBILEO DE MISERICORDIA
La Arquidiócesis de Filadelfia ha concedido a
cinco Santuarios el privilegio de abrir Puertas Santas
para el Año Jubileo de Misericordia, proclamado por el
Papa Francisco. La apertura de la Puerta Santa
simboliza el portal de la Misericordia y la bienvenida,
ofrecidas a todos por la sanación y el perdón del mundo.
Así que en el Santuario de San Juan Neumann,
celebraremos la apertura de la Puerta Santa en la Misa
de las 12:15 p.m. el Sábado, 19 de Diciembre del 2015.
Esperamos que nos pueda acompañar.
Después de la bendición de la Puerta Santa en
ese día, puede ‘caminar a través de’ la puerta y al
mismo tiempo recibir una indulgencia plenaria si recibe
el sacramento de confesión/ reconciliación dentro de
una semana, y recibe la comunión. También puede
ganar una indulgencia para otra persona si tiene la
oportunidad de caminar a través de la puerta de nuevo.
