Los festivales son lugares para encontrarse. Para que las películas
encuentren su lugar, o sus lugares. Para eso, es útil que la gente
que encuentra películas sepa dónde buscarlas. A veces, encontrar
una película puede partir de una búsqueda y, en otras ocasiones,
el encuentro puede partir de una casualidad. Los festivales son
–o al menos deberían ser– los lugares que propicien, que causen,
esas casualidades.
Espacios de intercambios, de conexiones, que hagan que las películas se encuentren con las personas que las buscaban o, mejor
aún, que no sabían que las estaban buscando. Programadores,
directores, encargados de festivales, guionistas, especialistas en
leer guiones o en entender el valor de una idea y de hacerla avanzar. Personas que pueden guiar un recorrido o, simplemente, dar
el consejo justo en el momento justo. O sembrar un consejo para
que florezca después, casi sin que el aconsejado se dé cuenta.
En el Área Profesional del [18] Bafici esperamos propiciar estos encuentros. O hacer que esos encuentros sean el inicio de algo más
grande. “Encuentros” es el tema que abre el inolvidable Chapter
One: Latin America del Gato Barbieri. Ese disco que era una mezcla apasionante, una mezcla que disponía un futuro escrito y, sobre
todo, interpretado con convicción. El Área Profesional es, a fin de
cuentas, un lugar para intérpretes.

Festivals are places to find each other. For films to find their place, or
their places. That is why it’s useful for people who find films to know
where to look. Sometimes, finding a film can come from a search;
others, it is found by chance. Festivals are –or at least should be– the
places that favor, that cause chance.
Spaces of exchange, of connections, that make films find the people that look for them or, better yet, that didn’t know they were looking for them. Programmers, directors, people in charge of festivals,
screenwriters, specialists in reading scripts or understanding the value of an idea and making it progress. People that can lead the way
or, simply, give the right advice at the right time. Or sow a piece of
advice for it to flourish later, almost without the one given that piece
of advice realizing it.
At [18] Bafici’s Professional Area, we expect to favor those findings.
Or to make those findings be the start of something bigger. “Encuentros” (“findings”) is the track that opens Gato Barbieri’s unforgettable
Chapter One: Latin America. That album that was a fascinating mixture; a mixture that laid out a future written and, above all, performed
with conviction. The Professional Area is, at the end of the day, a
place for performers.

Sixpackfilm fue fundada en 1990 como una organización sin fines
de lucro dedicada a asegurar un público para cine y videoarte austríaco, tanto en Austria como en el exterior. El propósito principal
de nuestra actividad en el área es conectar las producciones actuales en cine y video con la mayor cantidad posible de festivales
internacionales. Luego de que una película haya hecho su recorrido por los festivales más relevantes, la sumamos a nuestro nada
complicado sistema de alquiler. Nuestro catálogo incluye unos
1.400 títulos. Entre ellos, pueden descubrirse muchos clásicos del
cine austríaco de vanguardia.
Sixpackfilm was founded in 1990 as a non-profit organization to secure an audience for Austrian film and video art, both inside Austria
and abroad. The primary purpose of our activities in this area is to
connect current film and video productions with as many relevant
international festivals as possible. After a work has made the rounds
at the most relevant festivals, it is added to our uncomplicated rental system. Our program includes approximately 1,400 titles. Among
them, many classics of the Austrian avant-garde can be discovered.

Colectivo audiovisual boliviano. Ha producido los trabajos más
premiados del país en los últimos años. Se destacan Nueva vida,
de Kiro Russo, ganador de una mención del jurado en el Festival
del Film Locarno 2015; Amazonas, de Carlos Piñeiro, estrenado en
el Festival Clermont-Ferrand y el documental El corral y el viento,
de Miguel Hilari, con estreno en el Festival Internacional de Films
Documentales Cinéma Du Réel. Actualmente el colectivo trabaja
en su primera película, Viejo Calavera.

Filmadrid. Actualmente se encuentra en fase de preproducción del
largometraje Arima. Esnatu Zinema nace con el objetivo de ser
una productora de contenidos audiovisuales de cine de autor para
el mercado internacional.

Cada edición presenta aproximadamente treinta largos y treinta
cortos de treinta o más países. Obras de autor, valor cultural y
artístico, principalmente ficción, inéditas en el Paraguay. Es no
competitivo pero concede los Premios Panambí a la Mejor Película, Voto del Público, para los largos en los tres primeros puestos
favoritos del público. Se extiende a otras ciudades del interior y
aporta a la capacitación local por medio de actividades paralelas
como charlas y talleres.

Each edition screens around thirty features and thirty shorts from
thirty countries or more. Auteur works of cultural and artistic value, mainly fiction, that have never been released in Paraguay. It’s
non-competitive, but it hands out the Panambí Audience Award for
Best Film for three audience favorites. It also covers other cities and
contributes to local training through parallel activities such as conferences and workshops.

A l’Est du Nouveau es un festival francés de Cine de Europa Central y Oriental que nació en 2002 y desde 2008 se ha implementado en el Perú como Al Este de Lima y desde 2014 se replica en la
Argentina como Al Este del Plata. El festival se centra en producciones independientes con un lenguaje cinematográfico particular,
que presenta valores y antivalores buscando reconocer y entender
su actualidad, su pasado, su postura hacia el futuro. En el mes de
marzo de este año se realizó la décimoprimera edición.
A l’Est du Nouveau is a French festival for films from Central and
Eastern Europe that was born in 2002. Since 2008, it’s also held in
Peru as Al Este de Lima, and since 2014, it has its Argentine version
called Al Este del Plata. The festival centers on independent productions with a particular cinematic language, which presents values and
anti-values, seeking to acknowledge their present, their past and their
views towards the future. The 11th edition was held this past March.

Humanos, Cortometrajes Internacionales y Cortometrajes Uruguayos) y panorámicas. Asimismo, realiza focus en cinematografías nacionales, muestras de otros festivales, retrospectivas de
autor y secciones de temáticas.
The FCIU is a festival of more than 200 films from around the world,
which are programmed in competitive sections (International Competition, Latin American, New Filmmakers, Human Rights Cinema, International Short Films, and Uruguayan Short Films) and panoramas.
It also features focuses on local cinematographies, exhibits from other festivals, auteur retrospectives and themed sections.

Martín Rodríguez Redondo nació en 1979. En el año 2001, egresó

y el cortometraje Las liebres (Historias Breves 12, 2016). Ambas
producciones se estrenarán en esta edición del Bafici. Además,
está produciendo Marilyn, su primer largometraje como director.

around the globe. It broadcasts 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It was

Primer festival con carácter competitivo dedicado al cine y las artes documentales en Buenos Aires. Un espacio donde el cine de lo
real, películas con una misma vocación dialogan entre ellas y abordan la diversidad de formas y haceres particulares. Con diferentes
áreas como Campus, DocLab y Fórum, se abordan aspectos que
van desde la formación, el desarrollo de proyectos, la creación de
audiencias hasta la industria del documental. La tercera edición se
llevará a cabo del 25 de julio al 3 de agosto de 2016.
The first competitive festival devoted to documentary cinema and
arts in Buenos Aires. A space in which the cinema of reality, films with
the same vocation dialog with each other and tackle the diversity
of particular forms and ways. With different areas such as Campus,
DocLab and Fórum, it covers aspects that go from the shaping and
developing of projects and the creation of audiences to the documentary industry. The third edition will take place between July 25
and August 3, 2016.

sociedad civil. Su actividad principal es la realización del Festival
Internacional de Cine de Derechos Humanos, que en 2015 ha alcanzado su 16a edición y el Festival Internacional de Cine Ambiental, el cual llega a su 3a edición en 2016.
The DerHumALC Multimedia Institute (Human Rights in Latin America
and the Caribbean) is a non-profit association created with the intention of strengthening the treatment and study of Human Rights and
Environmental themes through civil society. Its main activity is holding
the International Human Rights Film Festival, which has reached its
16th edition in 2015 and The International Environmental Film Festival,
which is reaching its 3rd edition in 2016.
