This year will be very important to us in get qualifications for certain capacities that should enable us to remain as an international aeronautical reference. For the second consecutive year we will have funding for technology development in Andalusia that allow us to stay as competitive suppliers of our main companies, and reach new customers. I think of calls as RETOS, Innterconecta and CIEN (formerly known as CENIT), which can allow our auxiliary industry and our Supply Chain to learn which map of technology and products will manage the big companies in medium and long-term: only those who learn to work integrating these technologies of interest for tractors and Tier 1 today, we have the capabilities to offer to RFPs and perhaps be awardees of complex work packages. If I had to choose which is the most direct way to improve competitiveness of the sector, I will choose to progress in manufacturing processes and the new concepts Factory of the Future or Industry 4, behind which lies one of the keys to remain at the forefront of the aerostructures manufacture. Perhaps in these advanced manufacturing techniques it is where we have the opportunity to compete with emerging countries, which increasingly fast are learning to do what we do. I believe that this technologies will mark the future of the industry in the short term, but introducing them in aerospace requires a deep knowledge of this new technology, and the limitations that certification, security, quality and precision introduce, and therefore, we have dedicated an article to the Factory of the Future technology from a practical point based on experiences already developed by our industry. That is, talk not about the Factory of the Future in a general way, but the Aerospace Factory of the Future. We also talk about AERONET, the new on-line collaboration platform that HÉLICE has developed with enthusiasm to help improving the aerospace supply chain, providing an instrument to optimize processes in companies management, and thus strengthen the relationship between suppliers and contractors. I don’t want to miss the chance to remember to Francisco Mencía, first president of HÉLICE, former manager of Aerópolis and one of the key figures in the development of the aerospace sector in Andalusia in the last decades. As Paco himself would say, we have made great progress, but we still have some way to go if we want to become a competitive industry, for being an industrial and technological benchmark worldwide. And we will work all for it. AERONET is a firm commitment to improve aerospace supply chain by increasing efficiency and competitiveness. The new on-line collaboration platform developed by HÉLICE cluster seeks to respond the needs and problems of complexity and fragmentation in the supply chain of aviation companies. APPLICATION AERONET is an application platform aimed to solve the complexity of the supply chain between Tier 1, suppliers and auxiliary industry, which are the vast majority in the sector “AERONET viene a contribuir a mejorar todos esos procesos de comunicación entre una compañía y su cadena de proveedores”, explica Arturo de Vicente, director de HÉLICE. 4 bly of aircraft (civilian or military), so powerful management and communication models are needed to carry out successfully all supply processes (order management, logistics, purchasing and provisioning, billing, etc.) “AERONET improves communications between a company and its supply chain”, in words of Arturo de Vicente, HÉLICE Cluster’s Director. “It represents a further step in the application of information systems and management of high technological performance for companies in the sector, especially small and medium”, he adds. AERONET responds to the “Supply Chain Integration Model” that the philosophy of “Extended Enterprise” needs, chosen by the aerospace sector as the only one capable of responding to such a complex environment in which it operates. AERONET is the evolution of HéliceNet, used by Airbus Defence & Space with its supply chain companies, and established itself as one of the integration models more reliable and robust in the industry, with over 10 years of constant update. HéliceNet, used under the name of COMPASS by Airbus DS, was an innovative communication system ready to improve the relationship between the big European manufacturer and its supply chain. Now, AERONET takes a step further, since it is a tool designed to solve the complexity of the supply chain but between Tier 1 and Tier 2, and also with auxiliary companies, which are the vast majority in the sector. “AERONET is an application platform for any subcontractor of the aerospace supply chain. It is a better version of HéliceNet, which already is a global portal for excellence in supply chain management. AERONET has been developed under a similar concept, but designed with currently technology, resulting in a different tool, very powerful, friendly and especially focused on the relationship between management systems (ERP) of Tier 1 or Tier 2 and its subcontractors”, Arturo de Vicente says. Launched with Alestis AERONET began operating last November in Alestis Aerospace, a company that has become the launching customer of the platform, under the name of ASIC (Alestis Suppliers’ Information Center). FEBRERO 2016 The launch of this service has been carried out after a year of hard work by HÉLICE, which agreed with Alestis the platform development and its selection as a launching customer. The Spanish leading Tier 1 has a high degree of development in the sector, with a complex supply chain comprising an important number of suppliers. Airbus Defence & Space, LUCE Innovative Technologies and Junta de Andalucía are other collaborators of this initiative. Most suppliers of Alestis Aerospace are already asking for documentation to join this new portal, which will be mandatory for all subcontractors of the Andalusian company from 1 March 2016. To be part of it is requested to apply through HELICE Cluster website (www.helicecluster.com). AERONET is available in Spanish and English, although it is possible to adapt it in other languages, such as Chinese. Alestis Aerospace is very interested in implementing the platform in its subsidiary located in the Asian country. Other companies of the aerospace industry are interested in AERONET because of its significant advantages. ASIC – AeroNet functionalities The AERONET model is based on integration with the “back-end” SAP, reusing flows and business processes 7 EN PORTADA de negocio ya definidos por el sistema de gestión ERP. In the case of Alestis, it was required a system allowing safe and flexible communication of a company tractor with its suppliers, based on the current processes. For that reason emerged the idea of creating a portal for suppliers, to be communicated in a bidirectional way (extraction and updating of data) with SAP ECC6.0. OUTLOOK Alestis is the launching customer of AERONET but other companies of the aviation industry are interested in the platform because of its significant advantages In words of Lorenzo Rico, IT Director of Alestis, “AERONET integrates our complex supply chain into a single model, allowing a simple and efficient execution of different business processes towards ensuring the quality of the final product”. Through ASIC-AERONET, you can perform operations such as acceptance / rejection of the purchase orders; notification of delays or confirmations of shipment of goods; ability to add comments related to the purchase order, by both Alestis and by the supplier, in order to facilitate communication between them and the management of possible incidents; or report shipping date, delivery note, packing list, carrier, among others. But what are the AERONET’s advantages for Alestis? “There are many and very important”, Lorenzo Rico says. “Transaction costs between customers and supplier are minimized -one generates data in the system and all use them-; there is a better quality of the data as we can get them directly; Lead Time is reduced, and visibility of information is increased by the tailored reports. Also, there is a guarantee in traceability and data security according to international standards and provides a global access to our suppliers”, adds Rico. THE AEROSPACE FACTORY OF THE FUTURE THE CENTER FOR ADVANCED AEROSPACE TECHNOLOGIES, CATEC, LINKS THE ADVANCED MANUFACTURING CONCEPT TO AEROSPACE REQUIREMENTS Aerospace industry forecasts for the next 20 years show a need for over 35,000 new aircraft, as large manufacturers (Airbus and Boeing) say. A business that will be available to more competitive companies and able to adapt to new technologies and manufacturing processes, under criteria of efficiency, connectivity, productivity and sustainability, new terms of the future aviation industry. We face the so-called “Factory of the Future” or “Industry 4.0”, which has been rising with the need to apply more intelligent and innovative solutions to the manufacturing sector challenges. The Andalusian center collaborates with many sectors, but now is working very intensely in this line with aerospace companies, especially those of Sevilla and Cadiz, which are the main axis of the aerospace community. To do this, CATEC focus on the development of 15 manufacturing technologies with industrial solutions fully adapted to the Industry 4.0 requirements, specifically in aeronautics. In the case of Airbus DS, the collaboration is carried through its Military Aircraft Division (Tablada site in Sevilla and CBC in Cadiz), and its Space Systems Division, located in Madrid. These lines are as follows: ALM / FDM Additive Manufacturing (known as 3D printing); Flexible and more productive inspection systems; manufacture and in service monitoring; automation of aeronautical complex processes (drilling and edge milling, sealant application, aircraft painting); Collaborative robots; SCADA; reconfigurable and flexible stand; laser projection for assembly; application of Automatic Guided vehicles (AGVs) and Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGVs) to plant logistics; RFID process control connected to the ERP and WMS; indoor location systems; Virtual and augmented reality systems applied to manufacturing and troubleshooting; process simulation; interactive workbench; factory 100% interconnected and Industrial Internet of Things. “During nine years we have developed in CATEC many solutions 100% oriented to the limitations and requirements of the aviation industry, in order to improve production processes and increase competitiveness of companies”, Joaquín Rodríguez Grau says, CATEC’s CEO.”When we talk about the Factory of the Future or Industry 4.0 is important to turn the concept into FEBRERO 2016 concrete and useful solutions for the industry; this is the only way to have an impact on productivity in the short term. In addition, the aerospace industry has many limitations that are not common to the rest of the industry, so the aerospace factory of the future is different from the concept that is handled in general,” he says. A reference in Additive Manufacturing One of the most important lines for CATEC is Additive Manufacturing, and for 10 years is offering solutions based on this new technology that will be introduced in machining companies. In the coming future, small and complex aero-parts will be easier and more profitable to manufacture them through this technology that by traditional machining. In this line, CATEC has already achieved milestones such as the manufacture of components for the space launchers of the European Space Agency (ESA, which will be part of the primary structure of future satellites. These parts are produced with a weight reduction of 60%, a very important aspect in space missions. The Andalusian center also develops other AM tailored solutions as helpful tooling for autoclave curing to avoid leakages, and drilling and assembly tools based on this technique. CATEC is able to design and deliver these solutions to Andalusian companies within 72 hours to unlock complex processes that are maybe causing setbacks. In the area of monitoring, it is bringing new solutions for composite curing during the phase in autoclave, and other systems for sensing of indications in composite aerostructures. Process automation (drilling and aeronautic riveting, edging, application of sealants, paints, welding), is another area in which CATEC is developing state-of-the-art technologies. It highlights the application of collaborative robots of easy and quick programming or low cost industrial manipulators, highly versatile and applicable to 80% of assembly processes. In addition, since five years ago the center develops laser projection systems to help operators in assembly processes, and works in the production control in real time and connectivity with information systems (ERP and WMS) of companies in order to provide a complete vision of the factory. For example, indoor location systems that allow an operator to know at any time, and from his position, where the structures of the aircraft are, utensils, tools, or even to prevent FOD. INDUSTRY CATEC is developing these new technologies in collaboration with companies like Airbus, Aernnova, Alestis, Tecnatom, Airgrup, CT Ingenieros or Applus, among others In this area, CATEC also implements support systems for assembly processes based on augmented reality (with projection of light, for example), creating interactive workbench, reconfigurable (and connected to the digital model) in areas such as manufacturing and electronic wiring harnesses, or for supporting aerostructures assembly. In addition, CATEC is working on the simulation of aircraft maintenance processes, or the simulation from the design phase to ensure that an airplane is maintainable at reasonable costs. In short, we talk about advanced manufacturing technologies proven in industrial environments and focused on optimizing working times, saving costs, and increasing efficiency and productivity in aeronautical manufacturing processes, so as to allow the Andalusian sector keeps the leading positions in the global industry from the “Factory of the Future” paradigm. 18 AERONÁUTICA ANDALUZA COVER INTERVIEW FRONT FIGURES “Bombardier has a turnover of €300 million in Spain and a staff of 820 employees, which represents over 2% of sales and 1% of employment by the whole company” What is your assessment about Bombardier’s activity in 2015 and its evolution in the aviation sector? 2015 has been a year of change for Bombardier, which could be summarized in three points. First, we have made significant changes in some aerospace programmes: the Learjet 75 has been cancelled and we looked for a financial partner for the C Series. We founded it on the Province of Quebec’s Government, which has acquired 49% stake in the programme. This difficult situation in the aviation area has made us to close 2015 with losses, which has not happened in Bombardier since many years. Secondly, there have also been changes in the management and structure of the company, with the arrival of a new director, Alain Bellemare. And thirdly, another milestone has been the IPO of the division of trains in order to recapitalize and give more realistic in the current market valuation. Here the same Government of Québec has acquire 30% of our susidiary. What are the prospects for 2016? We face it differently, with good sensations. The company is stronger. We have strengthened the aerospace programmes: the C Series is channeled and close to be certified in order to enter into commercial service. Throughout this year it will be delivered to the first customers and international aviation will see its great advantages. In addition, we count on funds for new operations either consolidation or further invest- FEBRERO 2016 ments that are considered important by the company. We expect to follow the same positive path as recent years with Bombardier Transportation, with contracts and sales worldwide. What is the role of Bombardier Spain within the entire Group? How is its activity structured? Bombardier Spain has a turnover about € 300 million and a staff of 820 employees, in figures over 2% of sales and 1% of Bombardier’s employment (70,000 employees and € 16,000 million). Our business is very focused on the railway sector, most of the workers are devoted to this area, and there is only a small part belonging to the area of aviation, working in suppliers companies, also in airlines’ maintenance, such as Air Nostrum. We have three manufacturing plants in Spain of our rail division. This sector is much more specific and requires a different new product for each client, whether in Madrid, Barcelona or Valencia. And also, it has not so much second-hand market. In aeronautics it is different. Our assembly lines are in Canada, and we have factories in China, Ireland, Mexico, and Morocco. That makes the global presence of the railway division is much more divided, while aviation is more concentrated in these countries. And what is the aerospace business in our country? We have three main sales lines. In Spain, the best known is that of amphibians, the smallest manufacturing line but what has brought more benefits to Bombardier in the country. Here we have sold 34 B215 and B415 aircraft to the Ministries of Agriculture and Defense, which are used for firefighting. In addition, throughout history we have sold about 60 CRJ commercial aircraft family to Air Nostrum. And finally, we have sold a quarter of the business jets fleet currently in the 19 ENTREVISTA En los últimos años hemos vendido un B415, cinco aviones en régimen de leasing a Air Nostrum, y varias unidades más de aviones de negocios. La llegada a estos países se ha llevado a cabo siguiendo una estrategia centrada en la expansión por zonas geo- LTK is a Spanish company specializing in logistics services for the aviation industry that has taken another step in its internationalization process. The next goal of the company to keep on growing internationally is to setting up of new offices in the UK and Germany, markets in which LTK is already working with local partners. “We are expanding our presence in the aviation industry but also our size and operating network, and do not rule out in the future to also expand collaboration agreements with partners in other countries in The company manages the A400M logistics center in Seville and also works for other programmes such as A350, A330 MRTT, C295 and CN235 growth”, says Jesus Aznar, LTK Group CEO. The company started in 2013 its internationalization plan through an intense commercial work with different stakeholders of the aviation sector, and attending major aeronautical business meetings and trade fairs, as Aeromart Toulouse, ADM Seville, Aerospace Meetings Casablanca, Aerospace Meetings Lisbon and Aerotrends in Bilbao. “Our success is based not only on knowledge and expertise in the aviation industry, but also on the identification of the industry needs in general, and the needs of each customer, in particular”, Jesus Aznar says. In recent years the company has continued on innovating to offer better services to its customers that complete the portfolio of activities of the Group, as the management of obsolete materials, document management linked to aeronautics and management of supply chain integrated process from beginning to end. FEBRERO 2016 Smart and connected supply chain The LTK Group has set another objective: to develop a long-term and close cooperation with its customers to provide the more accurate and efficient service as possible. This allows to clients to focus their resources on their core activity without worrying about the operations logistics processes. “We detect and solve the problems identified in the supply chain of our customers, saving costs for them”, said Jesus Aznar. LTK bets on a different concept of logistics services supply, integrated in what is called “Industry 4.0” or “Factory of the Future”: the smart and connected supply chain. This new concept of supply chain offers a continued monitoring of physical flows, based on digital technologies, which allows the company to manage the value of automation, transparency and control of processes, saving costs and time. Indeed, a connected supply chain allows identifying the product throughout the manufacturing process, so a better response is possible if any change happens. “Our global service covers the entire aerospace supply chain and manages all flows (material, financial, computing system), providing best practices. Our expertise in the methodology and mechanisms of cooperation in production, and our commitment to a connected supply chain ensures the scalability of our services, so that they can adapt to the growth of workload without losing quality”, states LTK CEO. In short, LTK aims to continue improving its service portfolio with new value-added solutions that facilitate the work of its clients, becoming the perfect partner to optimize logistics processes of aeronautics supply chain in Spain and in countries of international growth. AERONÁUTICA ANDALUZA COMPANIES The ASSA ABLOY Group ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems is a division within ASSA ABLOY, a business group created in 1994 through the merger of ASSA in Sweden and ABLOY in Finland. Since then, the company has grown from a regional company to an international group with 44,000 employees and annual sales of more than SEK 57 billion (more than € 6,000 million). It is headquartered in Stockholm, and is present in over 70 countries around the world, especially in Europe, North America and the Asia-Pacific, leading the sector in areas such as access control, identification technology and entrance automation. Specialization in large doors One of the areas of expertise of ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems is hangar doors, mainly with vertical lifting, which constitute the best solution for companies of sectors such as aviation, shipyard and mining. Such doors has almost no limitation to size or configuration, and are are a great option for massive openings, which are needed by the hangars, or factories working with large pieces. To cover these features, ASSA ABLOY opening hangar systems focus primarily on a single door leaf or multiple system. Single door leaf is specifically designed to provide reliability, safety and high energy efficiency. With no need for ground tracks, the risk for malfunction is eliminated and they meet the demands of large-scale manufacturing. This allows a more cost-effective system design, which saves space and makes it easier to customize the size of the hangar. ASSA ABLOY has already installed several hangar doors for the airports of Teruel, Málaga, Valencia and Torrejón de Ardoz, as well as several aerospace manufacturing facilities It highlights the Crawford VL3010 vertical lifting fabric door model. This system is designed for medium-sized openings and has a high-speed version to cope with openings exposed to intense traffic. For extremely severe environments Crawford VL3010 is available in an extra corrosion-proof version. To extra large openings there is the Crawford VL3016 door, specially designed for extreme industrial environments, and minimum maintenance. Every door is individually designed FEBRERO 2016 to meet application requirements, for example wind load. Finally, ASSA ABLOY includes among its products the Megadoor VL3190, the preferred door model for the extremely large door openings needed for aircraft hangars, unlimited in size. Such doors allow adapting the size to any windload. Multiple-leaf aviation hangar door systems offer significant savings in construction costs by permitting a virtually unlimited opening width with variable height. Since the multiple-leaf aviation hangar doors lift vertically, the need for expensive ground tracks and door pockets is eliminated, enabling more cost-effective facility design. All the doors are available with translucent fabric for natural lighting, which improves both the working environment and allows for energy savings. In addition,” we incorporate load restraint systems patented by ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems, which guarantee maximum safety for people, aircraft and equipment at facilities,” says the company. Consolidation in the Spanish market ASSA ABLOY Entrance Systems is present in more than 30 countries on 5 continents, and operates with an authorized network of distributors over 50 countries. Headquartered in Sweden, it has production facilities in Europe, North America, Asia and Oceania, with more than 10,000 employees. THE A400M PROGRAMME LOOKS AT NEW CONTRACTS IN 2016 AIRBUS DEFENCE & SPACE IS NEGOTIATING WITH SEVERAL COUNTRIES NEW A400M AIRCRAFT SALES, AND EGYPT, JORDAN AND MEXICO ARE WELL POSITIONED AS POTENTIAL NEW CUSTOMERS. IF FINALLY THE CONTRACTS ARE SIGNED, THE PROGRAMME WILL INCREASE WORKLOAD FOR THE FAL IN SEVILLE AND THE ANDALUSIAN INDUSTRY. Airbus Defence & Space and the A400M programme faces this new year as one of the most important, as the European company could close some contracts for the sale of its military transport aircraft whose final assembly takes place in Seville. In words of Fernando Alonso, Head of Airbus Defence & Space Military Aircraft, the first sale of an A400M aircraft beyond those requested by the launching programme countries “will come very soon”. “We have many active export campaigns, and we expect to have two or three new customers throughout 2016”. Great news, indeed. Because it would bring a new boost to the A400M programme after a hard year. In 2015, Airbus had to solve production and supplier problems and also suffered a serious blow after the fatal crash of an A400M during one of the test flights conducted in Seville, where four people died. FEBRERO 2016 However, the relocation of the A400M programme office from Toulouse to Seville and improvements carried out in the industrialization process last year, have helped to reinforce the programme, and especially Andalusia as its global center of gravity. In 2015 18 A400M units were manufactured and in 2016 will rise to 21. With the expected signature of these new contracts, Airbus DS will give the definitive step to place the programme as the best military aircraft in the international market. Egypt and Jordan are currently the leading candidates to become new customers of the A400M. The Egyptian Defense Minister visited the FAL in Seville in mid November, and King Abdullah II of Jordan showed interest in the A400M airlifter and the multirole C-295 aircraft during his visit with the King of Spain Felipe VI to the Airbus DS center in Getafe (Madrid). Airbus DS has agreed with some of its customer nations (Germany, France,UK and Spain) to postpone some deliveries scheduled in the calendar, in order to respond to the immediate need of these new customers. In this context, Fernando Alonso confirmed during a meeting with journalists last December, that Airbus DS and the Spanish Ministry of Defense have agreed to delay until 2024 the delivery of 13 of the 27 A400M ordered by Spain. The aim of this agreement is to wait for better economic conditions of the Spanish Government in order to acquire the remaining 13 units or finally export them to third countries with the help of Airbus. The rest of the aircraft (14 units) will be handed out from 2016 until 2018, with the first delivery scheduled for mid of this year. United States, a long-term goal The situation in the Middle East is causing a growing in- tes, although this is a long-term challenge, company says. “We must enter in the US market”, Fernando Alonso says, adding that becoming a supplier of the US Armed Forces is very difficult, but “we have to try”. There is a high competence with the American manufacturers like Boeing or Lockheed Martin, but Airbus has an advantage: US does not have a similar aircraft as A400M in its fleet. Deliveries in 2015 In terms of deliveries, 2015 has been a good year as some customer nations received 11 A400M units, such as Germany, France, Turkey and Malaysia. The Royal Malaysian Air Force was the last customer in receiving the A400M at the FAL in Seville on December 22nd. RMAF has already two aircraft and is expected to receive its remaining two examples later this year. A BIG BOOST FOR THE A380 SUPERJUMBO JAPAN’S BIGGEST CARRIER, ANA HOLDINGS, HAS BOUGHT THREE A380 JETS AND WILL BE THE FIRST COUNTRY TO OPERATE THE AIRCRAFT. WITH THIS SALE, AIRBUS ENDS WITH TWO YEARS OF DROUGHT WITHOUT NEW ORDERS FOR THE A380. AIRBUS HAS ALSO CONFIRMED A FIRM ORDER FOR EIGHT A330 MRTT FROM FRANCE. Airbus faces a new year with good news. The European manufacturer starts 2016 with an order for one of its most important programmes, the A380 superjumbo, in which is involved the Airbus site in Puerto Real (Cádiz) and some Andalusian companies. The airline All Nippon Airways (ANA) have purchased three units of the A380, becoming the first airline in Japan to operate with this Airbus aircraft. The deal is worth about €1,150 million, and the planes will be used for the expansion of ANA’s international air connections, especially on the way to Hawaii (USA), a popular destination for Japanese tourists. The Japanese airline has currently a 15% of market share between Japan and Hawaii, a route in all airlines with an average occupancy around 80%. The forecast is that ANA will start using the aircraft in 2018. FEBRERO 2016 With this sale, Airbus ends with two years of drought without new orders for the A380, a reason why the company ocasionally considered changing the production rate of the programme many times. The last order of the world’s largest passenger airliner was made by the leasing company Amedeo in February 2014, for 20 A380 aircraft. Since then the only news of the programme had been cancellations. Airbus canceled in July a $2 billion contract with the Japanese airline Skymark for six A380 superjumbo airliners because of problems with payment of the airline, and the Saudi Kingdom Company who cancelled its requested airplane. 44 AERONÁUTICA ANDALUZA PROGRAMS Spain could rent the A330MRTT due to delay in the purchase of three units The Spanish Air Force is considering hiring on lease (rent to own) one or two refueling aircraft to meet the delay in the acquisition of three A330MRTT, whose contract remained pending in the previous legislature. As reported by the newspaper El País, The Spanish Ministry of Defence and Airbus DS had virtually closed the purchase of three MRTT, since probably the last Boeing 707 of the Spanish Air Force with refueling capacity will cease next summer its operational service. However, the agreement with Airbus DS is not closed yet due to the objections of the Ministry of Finance in the form of payment. So the Spanish Air Force plans to rent some tankers until the signing of the contract. The operation could be done through Air Tanker, a company participated by Airbus with other major European aerospace companies. Air Tanker already rents Future Strategic Tanker Aircraft (FSTA) to the Royal Air Force (RAF). ms of the auxiliary industry are directly involved in the A380 programme, as well as other companies involved in the supply chain with outsourced works. Airbus has sold to date 317 A380 aircraft, regardless ANA’s order, and has delivered a total of 179 units. SALES Airbus has sold to date a total of 317 A380 aircraft. The forecast is that ANA will begin using the three aircraft ordered in 2018 © Airbus Eight A330 MRTT more for France But the A380 is not the only Airbus programme that has received a boost in recent weeks. The European manufacturer has received a firm order from the French Defence Procurement Agency (DGA) for a further eight A330 MRTT Multi-Role Tanker Transport aircraft. The aircraft constitute the second tranche of the multi-year contract for 12 A330 MRTTs, signed by the French Ministry of Defence in November 2014 and brings the total firm order to nine. The remaining three are scheduled to be confirmed in 2018, permitting deliveries of the 12 aircraft before 2025. The first A330 MRTT will be delivered to France in 2018, followed by the second in 2019, and the remainder at a rate of one or two per year. This is other Airbus programme with a significant participation of the Andalusian companies, especially from the auxiliary industry. Among others, the firm Airgrup provides hydraulic pipes and the refueling boom; or the MDU engineering, which develops a “fly by wire” joystick-type control system. The Airbus DS Tablada site participates in the construction of the plane and is responsible for the assembly of the Aerial Refueling Boom System (ARBS). THE COMPANY STRATEGY FOR THE COMING YEARS WILL FOCUS ON OFFERING VERSIONS OF C295 INCORPORATING MORE FUNCTIONALITY AND ADAPT TO MARKET NEEDS. Airbus Defence & Space has focused the attention of its C295 exports campaign on two of the world’s leading emerging markets: Latin America and the Middle East. Two geographical areas in economic growth, but there is also a particular fact to take into account. The armed forces of several countries need to increase its military transport units due to the conflicts raised in recent years. Especially in the case of the Middle East, where the situation in Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq is driving an increase in general safety in neighboring countries. FEBRERO 2016 Saudi Arabia, Jordan and Oman are three of the main customers of the C295 in the Persian Gulf, with some units ordered. However, its largest customer and operator is the Egyptian Air Force, which already has 17 units of 24 ordered to Airbus. The goal of the European manufacturer is to add new sales. To promote this plan, Airbus DS participated last November at the Dubai Airshow and presented the C295 to military authorities; the company held B2B meetings too, in order to close new orders. AERONÁUTICA ANDALUZA TRAINING AEROSPACE TRAINING SCHOOLS, A DIRECT FLIGHT TO BECOME A PROFESSIONAL ONE OF THE MAIN GOALS OF THESE CENTERS IS TO INSERT YOUNG PEOPLE IN THE AEROSPACE LABOUR MARKET THROUGH TRAINING IN MANY TECHNICAL FIELDS, OFTEN RELATED TO THE ACTIVITIES IN FACTORIES. IT IS THE CASE OF ANDALUSIAN TRAINING CENTERS AS MD AEROESPACIAL OR ENASA, WHICH HAVE BECOME TWO OF THE MAIN REFERENCES IN THIS FIELD. The aviation sector in Andalusia counts on several training schools aiming to prepare technical professionals for the auxiliary industry. The main objective of these centers is to insert many young and unemployed people in the aerospace labour market, through training in technical specialties, usually linked to factory activities. The growth in the aviation industry in the last decade and the crisis in other sectors, have also boosted a greater interest in this type of training by professionals from other fields. What is more, many specialized centers have arisen and nowadays are leading the sector. This is the case of MD Aeroespacial or ENASA, which have a significant level of recruitment and employment of their students. MD Aeroespacial was created in 2009 and initially dedicated to the aeronautical supply. One year later began offering its first courses, oriented to aerospace manufacturing operator. Today these two areas are the business lines of the company, although the training center has experien- FEBRERO 2016 ced remarkable growth in recent years. Miguel Dominguez, former employee of the Spanish Aircraft manufacturer Construcciones Aeronáuticas SA (CASA) and Airbus DS, founded the company and through its classrooms more than 1,100 students have already studied. Currently, MD Aeroespacial offers courses Aircraft Structures Assembly, Aircraft Sealant Aplication, Quality Inspection and Composites, but sometimes it also convenes Electrical Manufacturing courses (wiring harnesses). There is a combination of presence training, with practical and theoretical classes held at its facilities in the Industrial Estate Guadalquivir in Gelves (Sevilla), which have recently been extended with a 500 square meters plant. Also, each course includes a practical training period in companies thanks to collaboration agreements signed with firms of the auxiliary industry such as Aerostructuras Sevilla, Aciturri, Airgrup, Inespasa, UMI, GAZC, Aercal, Compasur, etc. 58 AERONÁUTICA ANDALUZA TRAINING In 2015 MD Aeroespacial started to offer several specialties at its offices in El Puerto de Santa María (Cádiz), with very good acceptance. Students receive theoretical classes there and then travel to facilities in Seville for practical training, via a shuttle bus service. In the past year they have also started training courses for companies, in order to upgrade the skills of its professionals. The secret of success of MD Aeroespacial “is to provide quality training and friendly service to our students. We are like a big family”, explains Miguel Dominguez, founder of MD Aeroespacial. “We have an average of 25-30 students per course and a highly qualified teaching staff “ says Irene Bernal, director of the center. This 2016 starts with the launch of some initiatives. For example, the first edition of the Bachelor in Aircraft Maintenance, a higher level training grade for two years not taught in Sevilla so far, that is started on January. Also, the training center has just signed an agreement with the Spanish Air Force for their students to perform aero maintenance practices at the Real Maestranza de Sevilla facilities, located in Tablada and San Pablo. It has also signed another agreement with the City of Gelves (Seville) to restore an AZOR C-207 located in the village, by the students of the school. ENASA, five years of training in Aerópolis ENASA started its activity on aviation training in 2010, and since then it has been growing. The company was created by another entrepreneur and former professional of the sector, Rafael Estevez. However, he had its first training experience in the aerospace industry in 2005 and 2006, with another training center called Formación y Montaje Aeronáutico. “We were pioneers in Sevilla, but I changed the ownership of the business. A few years later I decided to return and thus ENASA was born” he says. ENASA offers training courses such as Aircraft Structure Assembly, Aircraft Sealant Aplication, Quality Inspection, Paint Aplication Electrical Manufacturing, Composites, Composites Assembly, as well as a combined course of Aerostructures Assembly, Lamination and Lean Manufacturing. In addition, there are other face-to-face courses as Engineering of Aeronautical Processes, 3D printing and Lean Manufacturing and Aeronautical Drawnings. Courses have an average of 20 students. This school has training centers in Sevilla (in Aerópolis, where its headquarters are located), Cádiz and Getafe (Madrid), where theoretical classes are held. It also has approved facilities for internships located in Salteras (Seville), where students of Cádiz and Getafe attend more intensive sessions during their stay in Sevilla. FEBRERO 2016 ENASA counts on a staff of 34 teachers, most of them engineers and professionals from large companies. Internships depend on the demand of the companies that collaborate with ENASA. “We have agreements with different companies, but the practical training is based on those criteria. There is a relationship of trust with the firms we collaborate with, and we ask them to get involved and to hire some of the students at the end of the course, if there is a chance. Last year more than 280 students of ENASA were hired, and we are so proud of that, “says Rafael Estévez. Both MD Aeroespacial and ENASA divide their courses in theory and practical training, the latter carried out in approved facilities. After that, students complete their learning with internships in companies of the sector In this regard, Estévez highlights quality training, expertise and honesty as keys for consolidation and growth of ENASA. Among the latest novelties of the center he emphasizes the implementation of courses for companies, according to the specific aeronautical specialties demanded by customers. Some have already started on 2015 and expects to strengthen in 2016, thanks to several courses committed with several Andalusian companies. 59 FERIAS Y CONGRESOS ABIERTO EL PLAZO DE INSCRIPCIÓN PARA ADM SEVILLA >> EXTENDA Y ABE-BCI, ORGANIZADORES DEL EVENTO, YA HAN ABIERTO EL PLAZO DE SOLICITUDES PARA REGISTRARSE EN UNA NUEVA EDICIÓN DE ADM SEVILLA, QUE SE CELEBRARÁ DEL 10 AL 13 DE MAYO.
