Cuando recibí la invitación para
hacer este texto me dijeron que
tenía completa libertad de escribir
lo que quisiera pues “al fin y al cabo
casi nadie lo va a leer porque la
mayoría de la gente toma una decisión a partir de las fotos, el precio
y el número de habitaciones, y la
neta el lugar casi casi se vende solo...
checa las fotos de referencia” (sic).
En otro correo me pidieron que
tomara en cuenta la idea con la
que Paramero fue concebido: departamentos para gente que quería
combinar la experiencia del mar
con la generosidad y efervescencia
de una ciudad joven. Es todo. Ah sí,
al final remataron con “Tu viviste en
Cancún, no? Inspírate de tu experiencia” (sic).

When I got the invitation to write
this piece, I was told I had complete freedom to write whatever
I wanted. “At the end of the day,”
they said, “hardly anyone will read
it. Most people make up their
minds after looking at the pictures,
the price and the number of rooms,
so really the place almost sells it
self... Check out the reference pictures” (sic).
Another email asked me to bear
in mind the idea around which
Paramero was conceived: apartments for people who want to
combine the experience of the sea
with the generosity and excitement
of a young city. That’s all. Oh yeah
it ended with, “You used to live in
Cancun, right? Draw inspiration
from your personal experience” (sic).

Y pues sí, lo peor de haber vivido
en Cancún es eso: que viví en Cancún. Ya no estoy allí. Les respondí
que quería un trueque: unos cuantos párrafos a cambio de un par de
noches en Paramero para “vibrarlo”.
Aceptaron y ahora escribo desde
aquí, en el quinto piso. No les voy
a mentir, estoy llorando. Olvídense
de la inspiración, creo que voy a
mudarme de regreso. Del aeropuerto aquí me di cuenta que la ciudad
creció con planificación y orden.
Además extraño tener al mar a
unas cuadras. Y no nada más es el
mar, es el Caribe.
No me voy a extender demasiado. Vean las fotos (y los precios...)
Enamórense - o reanamorénse
como yo-. Cuando se animen, no
me lo agradezcan, solo pasen a
saludar. Soy el hombre con bigote,
alto y bronceado con una sonrisa
infinita.

So, yes, the worst part about living
in Cancun is this: I lived in Cancun.
I’m not living there now. I told them
I wanted a trade: a few paragraphs
in exchange for a couple of nights in
Paramero to “get the feel for it.”
They accepted, and now I’m
writing from here, on the fifth floor.
I won’t lie. I’m crying. Forget inspiration, I think I’m moving back.
On the way here from the airport, I
realized how well planned and orderly the city’s growth was. It’s also
strange to have the sea just a few
blocks away. And it’s not just the
sea, it’s the Caribbean.
But I won’t go into too much detail. Take a look at the photos (and
the prices). Fall in love - or back
in love - like me. And when you’re
ready, don’t thank me; just stop by
and say hello. I’m the tall guy with
the mustache tall and tan with a
permanent smile.
