There are at least two distinct and significant moments in today’s Gospel. One moment is the ascent to the top of the mountain. The other is the
descent. Those who have had the privilege of hiking in the mountains can easily relate to this exciting adventure. However, there is more here
than a hike in the mountains.
We can look at the mountain in today’s Gospel
as a symbol for wherever we have an intimate encounter with God. Such an encounter is the result of prayer
and reflection on God’s Word. We are called to listen
closely to the rich insights offered to us in scripture.
This is our way of climbing the mountain with Jesus as
did the disciples of Jesus. God’s message for each of us
always leads to new freedom and consolation. This
new insight is found when we seek silence and stillness. However, the spiritual life is characterized by
more than consoling prayer. After prayer comes the
descent from the mountaintop.
Jesus and the disciples quickly descended the
mountain after the Transfiguration experience. They
came to see Jesus in all his glory and immediately
were led back to real life. Our encounter with Christ
ought to lead us back to daily life with all its blessings
and struggles. This encounter with the living Christ
transforms how we view the twists and turns of life.
Daily life is changed as a result of this encounter with
Christ.
This change in perspective is due, in part, to personal knowledge of God’s mercy. As a church, we are
currently in the Year of Mercy. While we are always
conscious of God’s mercy, it takes additional emphasis
this year. We hope to gain a personal experience of
knowing ourselves as those who are beloved, forgiven
and healed by God’s grace.
In keeping with the Year of Mercy, Our Lady of
Lourdes is participating in a special archdiocesan effort to celebrate God’s mercy in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. We join other parishes in offering the Sacrament of Reconciliation for a continuous period of 24
hours. This will begin at 8pm on Friday, March 4 and
conclude at 8pm on Saturday March 5. One or more
priests will be available in our church during these
hours. All are invited to take advantage of this special
opportunity as a way of enhancing our Lenten journey.

Por lo menos hay dos momentos distintivos y significantes en el Evangelio de hoy. Un momento es
la ascención a la cima de la montaña. La otra es el
descenso. Aquellos que han tenido el privilegio
de escalar montañas puede relacionarse con esta
aventura excitante. Sin embargo, es más que el
subir a una montaña.
Podemos ver a la montaña en el Evangelio de hoy
como un símbolo de donde sea que hayamos tenido un
encuentro íntimo con Dios. Tal encuentro es el resultado de oración y reflexión en la Palabra de Dios. Somos llamados a escuchar con atención la rica sabiduría
encontrada en las Escrituras. Es nuestro modo de
subir a la montaña con Jesús como lo hicieron sus dis–
cípulos. El mensaje de Dios para cada uno de nosotros
siempre nos lleva a la libertad y consolación. Esta nueva vision se encuentra cuando buscamos el silencio y
tranquilidad. Sin embargo, la vida espiritual se caracteriza por más que la oración consoladora. Después de
la oración viene el descenso de la montaña.
Jesús y los discípulos rápidamente bajan de la montaña luego de la Transfiguración. Ellos fueron a ver a
Jesús en toda su gloria e inmediatamente regresaron a
la vida real. Nuestro encuentro con Cristo debe guiarnos a la vida diaria con todas sus bendiciones y luchas.
Este encuentro con el Cristo Viviente transforma cómo
vemos los giros y vueltas de la vida. La vida diaria
cambia como resultado de este encuentro con Cristo.
Este cambio de perspectiva se debe en parte al conocimiento personal de la misericordia divina. Como
Iglesia, estamos ahora en el Año de la Misericordia.
Mientras que siempre estamos conscientes de la misericordia divina, se necesita un énfasis adicional este
año. Esperamos ganar experiencia personal de contarnos entre los que son amados, perdonados y sanados
por la gracia de Dios.
En consonancia con el Año de la Misericordia, la
Parroquia de Lourdes participará en uno de los esfuerzos especiales de la Arquidiócesis para celebrar la
misericordia divina en el Sacramento de la Reconciliación. Nos juntaremos a otras parroquias en ofrecerlo
por un periodo contínuo de 24 horas. Comenzará el
viernes 4 de Marzo a las 8 pm y acabará el sábado 5 de
Marzo a las 8 pm. Habrá uno o dos sacerdotes disponibles durante esas horas. Todos están invitados a
que aprovechen esta oportunidad especial para mejorar nuestra jornada cuaresmal.

On a remote island, Prospero, the rightful Duke of Milan, plots to
restore order to his universe by reassembling the pieces of his
banishments using artifice and skillful manipulation.
He conjures up a storm, the eponymous tempest, to lure the
usurping brother Antonio and the complicit King Alonso of
Naples to the island.
There, Prospero’s machinations reveal the true nature of some
characters, the redemption and resolution of others and a royal
suitor for his daughter Miranda.
