The Permanent Commission on the Status of Women (PCSW) is pleased to offer this
Nineteenth Edition of The Directory of Women’s Organizations in Connecticut (2014). We are excited to
announce that in order to reach a broader audience, and to be of better service to all our
community, we are now incorporating a Spanish translation of every entry.
Whether focused on a particular region or operating statewide, all the organizations in this book
work to improve the status of women and families in Connecticut, and we are honored to
represent them here. We hope The Directory serves as a valuable tool for you and your
constituents, and that it will lead to individual and collective success in assuring the economic
security, health and safety of the women of Connecticut.
The great suffragist Elizabeth Cady Stanton said, “The happiest people I have known have been
those who gave themselves no concern about their own souls, but did their uttermost to mitigate
the miseries of others.”

Assembly
Oversees matters concerning the Asian Pacific American population in Connecticut. the
Commission makes recommendations to the General Assembly and the Governor on the health,
safety, education, economic self-sufficiency and efforts to remain free from discrimination within
the Asian Pacific American population in Connecticut.

Commission on Aging - COA - State of Connecticut - General Assembly
Independently, or more often by building bridges with other organizations and individuals,
proposes, supports and/or critiques legislation that will improve the quality of life for older
residents. Provides information on issues facing older adults to the business and education
community, state and local governments and the news media.

Commission on Children - COC - State of Connecticut - General Assembly
Legislatively mandated to provide information and conduct research regarding the status of children
and children's programs in the state; review coordination and assess programs and practices in all
State agencies as they affect children and serve as a liaison between government and private groups
concerned with children.

they may have been the victim of housing discrimination, education and outreach on the fair
housing laws, strategic planning and advice for cities and towns on fair housing compliance, and

CWC works to improve behavioral health care through training, advocacy, and policy. We educate
nonprofits, clinicians, state agencies and others who serve women struggling with limited resources
and respectful care. Some topics we have trained in include women and substance abuse, maternal
mental health, human trafficking, veterans and trauma.
