From the Pastor
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Tomorrow, June 29th, is the Solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul. But, since we are gathered together today (June 28th) for our Sunday
Mass I thought it would be more convenient to
have a little party today while everyone is more
free. I would like to invite everyone in the parish
no matter what Mass one might attend to come
back to the parish at 1:30 p.m. for some hot dogs
and ice cream. The English Knights of Columbus
are providing this Feast Day Party for free. Thanks
a lot Knights of Columbus!!
On Monday, June 29th, the actual day of the Solemnity of Sts. Peter and Paul we will have two
Masses. The English Mass will be at 8:30 a.m. and
the Latin Solemn Mass will be at 5:30 p.m. followed by a little reception. There will be no 7:00
a.m. Mass on Monday. I hope we have a good
number of people who attend in honor of the two
great apostles: Peter and Paul. May their powerful
prayers help each of us to follow in the footsteps of
our Savior more faithfully.
On Wednesday of this week we will be starting the
month of July! I would like to wish the parish of
Precious Blood a happy feast day as they celebrate
their name day on July 1st. They are dedicating
their new altar as well and so there is much reason
for rejoicing.
Friday of this week is the First Friday of July and
so we will have Mass on Friday evening at 5:30
p.m. followed by all night adoration. Fr. Define
from Precious Blood Parish will also have a sung
Latin Mass at 7:00 p.m. at Precious Blood Parish
and he has invited the Juventutem Group to attend
as they formally charter their new group.
“Juventutem” means “youth” and anyone who
loves the Latin Mass and is between the ages of 17
and 35 is welcome to attend. In August the group
will meet at Sts. Peter and Paul like they did in
June. But, instead of the first Friday of August the
meeting will occur on Saturday, August 15th at
10:30 a.m. with a sung Mass. Following that Mass
June 28, 2015
there will be a social for the Juventutem group. Of
course, everyone will be welcome to the Mass of
the Assumption that day at 10:30 a.m.
On Saturday of this week (July 4th) when we celebrate Independence Day for the United States we
might consider coming to the 8:30 a.m. Mass and
praying for our country. It is especially important
that we pray for the protection of our religious liberty as it is slowly being eroded. Because of our
Independence Day there will be no Padre Pio
Group following the Mass.
Just a reminder that when we are on vacation we
should still consider the importance of supporting
our parish with our weekly tithe. In the summer we
need the support as much as at any other time of
the year. Therefore, when we are on vacation we
should anticipate our absence and give our tithe
even for the Sundays that we will be absent. For
example, I will be leaving on Sunday, July 5th after the 7:30 a.m. Mass for a vacation to Ohio to
visit my family. Since I will be gone the weekend
of July 12th I will give my tithe for Sunday, July
5th and at the same time give my tithe for Sunday
July 12th. I have been asking everyone to try to
double whatever we have been accustomed to give.
And so for example, if we have been accustomed
to give $50.00 a week we might now try to give
$100.00 a week. Thank you to all those who have
been doing exactly this.
While I am gone we will continue with the daily
Mass in Latin Monday through Friday at 7:00 a.m.
as well as the 8:30 a.m. Mass in English and the
Spanish Masses Tuesday through Thursday at 7:00
p.m. Father Eichhoff who has retired from active
ministry will be assisting us with some of our 8:30
a.m. Masses during the time that I am gone and
will offer the English Mass on Sunday, July 12th at
9:00 a.m. Please welcome him to our community.
He was here back in the 70’s as a young priest. He
is looking forward to coming for a visit. Over the
years his community of St. Cecilia’s in Claremore
has been very generous toward our parish and
school. We are grateful for his leadership in this
regard.
I hope that we have a great Feast Day of Celebration of our Patronal Saints and that the Lord fills
our hearts with joy.
Sincerely yours,
Father Timothy Davison

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
The premier poet of the English language,
Geoffrey Chaucer, introduced one of his most beloved characters, the “Wife of Bath,” by this telling remark: “Husbands at church door she had
five.” Four times widowed, she was setting off on
a pilgrimage, notably without umber five. The
church door is a curious detail, pointing to the
fourteenth-century wedding custom of marrying
on the porch of the parish church. The goal was to
give maximum publicity to the consent of the
groom and bride, and so consent was moved from
the bride’s home to a public venue. The priest
would stand in the doorway and begin by sprinkling the couple with holy water. He needed to
make sure they weren’t too closely related and
give them some instruction. He would direct the
groom to pay the bride’s family a dowry, and then
announce the monetary amounts to the interested
passerby. Only then would the guests enter the
church for the wedding Mass, during which the
bride and groom would hold lighted candles. The
gradual move from home to church and the shift
from the bride’s father to the priest’s authority
helped to protect the freedom of the brides who
weren’t quite as confident as the Wife of Bath.

Question # 1: Why Daily Reading of the Bible, specially the 4
Gospels?
Christianity is first and
foremost a Loving Relationship with Our Lord
Jesus! Loving Relationship with the Lord presupposes our continuous efforts to reject or avoid sin
everyday! Without this daily struggle against sin,
one's practice of Christianity may fall into mere lip
service (Mt 15:8) and "just going through the motions" (and as such, may degenerate into what is
referred to by Pope Francis as "Superficial" Religion which he warned us to avoid.
The Son of God became Man (for love of humankind) in Our Lord Jesus who is "The Way, the
Truth and the Life." Jn14:16. Our Lord said:
"Repent and believe in the Gospel." Mk 1:15. "If
you love me, you will keep my commandments."
Jn 14:15. "If anyone wishes to come after me,
he must deny himself and take up his cross daily
and follow me." Lk 9:23. "Not everyone who says
to me 'Lord, Lord' will enter the kingdom of
heaven, but only the one who does the will of my
Father in heaven." Mt 7:21. Our Lord's Life and
Teachings are mainly found in Holy Scriptures/
Bible, particularly, in the Four Gospels according
to Mark, Matthew, Luke and John. This fact explains my focus on 4 Gospels. St. Jerome, the Patron Saint of Catholic Scripture Scholars, put it
bluntly: "Ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance
of Christ."

Pax Christi Workshop
On Sunday, June 28, from 2:00 until 4:00 PM, Pax
Christi of Eastern Oklahoma will present a workshop on torture, in Fletcher Hall at Christ the King
Catholic Church, 16th and South Quincy,
Tulsa. People of all faiths and cultures are invited
to come together for this workshop prepared by the
United States Conference of Catholic Bishops
(USCCB), to explore the morality of torture and its
effects. Why does the Catholic Church hold that
“torture is an intrinsic evil”? In the words of Pope
Francis, “I repeat the firm condemnation of every
form of torture. To torture persons is . . . a very
grave sin.”
THE LORD OF LIFE
At this bountiful time of year, our Sunday
readings teem with life and abundance. Both the
first reading, from the book of Wisdom, and the
Gospel passage from Mark assure us that God did
not make death or even will us to be ill. Illness and
death entered the world through the presence of
evil, the Wisdom author tells us. Mark’s stories of
Jesus healing a hemorrhaging woman and resuscitating a dead little girl make it clear that Jesus is
from God. As the Son of God he does not will that
anyone suffer illness or death. In the face of such
power, the second reading, from Paul’s Second
Letter to the Corinthians, provides a stark contrast.
Jesus, who could raise the dead to new life,
“though he was rich, for your sake he became
poor” “ (2 Corinthians 8:9). Our gift of new life
from Christ demands our response in charity.

Del Párroco:
Hermanos y hermanas,
He pedido que

respuesta: nuestra caridad.
