Gospel Reading: Luke 12:35-40
Jesus said to his disciples:
“Gird your loins and light your lamps
and be like servants who await their master’s return from a wedding,
ready to open immediately when he comes and knocks.
Blessed are those servants
whom the master finds vigilant on his arrival.
Amen, I say to you, he will gird himself,
have the servants recline at table, and proceed to wait on them.
And should he come in the second or third watch
and find them prepared in this way,
blessed are those servants.
Be sure of this:
if the master of the house had known the hour
when the thief was coming,
he would not have let his house be broken into.
You also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect,
the Son of Man will come.”

From the Pastor • Del Pastor
Dear Friends of St. Louise,
Queridos Amigos de Santa Luisa:
This year is the summer of the Republican
and Democratic Conventions and the
Summer Olympics in Rio. All three events
are about different people coming together
with the goal of victory: victory for their
candidate in the case of the presidential
election and victory for their country’s
athletes in the case of the Olympics.
As wonderful as victory in sports and in
politics can be, with these experiences of summer 2016 in mind, I
was particularly struck by the catechetical instruction of St. Cyril of
Jerusalem found in the Liturgy of the Hours for Thursday of the
17th Week of Ordinary Time:
While rulers of the different nations have limits to their
sovereignty, the holy Catholic Church alone has a
power without boundaries throughout the entire world.
For, as Scripture says: God has made peace her
border.
What powerful words: God has made peace her border. God
gives a peace that the world cannot give, an eternal peace, an
enduring and profound peace. These words also speak of the
Catholic Church’s power to be inspiring, which is a power without
boundaries: our power is not ours, it is the power that comes from
God, and that power is based on God’s peace. St Cyril also says
this:
It [the Church] is most aptly called a church, which
means an “assembly of the called out,” because it
“calls out” all men [and women] and gathers them
together, just as the Lord says in Leviticus: Assemble
all the congregation at the door of the tent of meeting.
The words of this bishop of the early Church speak powerfully to
our mission today. We are called to remember that our influence
is worldwide, that we alone have a leader for all people in the
Pope – and we are blessed to have Pope Francis, who lives that
call so well. Our message is one of peace, peace in the face of
division and violence. We are at our best as the Church when we
call others together to put into action the message of God’s love.
Some of my favorite words in the Mass come from Eucharistic
Prayer III for Various Occasions:
Grant that all the faithful of the Church, looking into the
signs of the times by the light of faith, may constantly
devote themselves to the service of the Gospel. Keep
us attentive to the needs of all that, sharing their grief
and pain, their joy and hope, we may faithfully bring
them the good news of salvation and go forward with
them along the way of your Kingdom.
Amen!

Financial Support Needed
The St. Louise Chapter of St. Vincent de
Paul thanks you for your past support. We
are experiencing needs greater than our
allocated budget. Normally, we do not ask
for help during the year; instead our annual
drive happens at the Christmas Masses.
This year we find that we are less able to
respond to requests at the same level. So far, we have helped
640 households serving over 1900 people at a cost of about
$50,000; now Tent City is offering additional opportunities to
help the homeless.
Please consider making a gift of any amount to St. Vincent de
Paul. You may drop it in the collection basket or at the Parish
Office. You can make regular ongoing contributions to St.
Vincent de Paul by visiting the parish Online Giving website to
set up your automated gift. http://stlouise.org/onlinegiving Our community will rest easier thanks to your
generous support.
St. Vincent de Paul Case Managers now
at St. Louise
St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) now has onsite case management
support available every other week at St. Louise. This service
will support all parishes on the Eastside.
Hours are from 10AM—2PM; by appointment only. To
arrange an appointment, please contact Maria Moody,
[email protected] or 360-621-6273.
Please consider automating your giving in support of SVdP by
signing up at http://stlouise.org/online-giving - follow the
directions to set up your donation. All funds are used to assist
those in need within St. Louise parish boundaries. We
appreciate your generosity and prayers for those in need.

Youth Confirmation at St. Louise
Are you a youth interested in receiving the sacrament of Confirmation at St. Louise?
Please note that St. Louise now requires at least ONE year of previous faith formation before enrollment
in our year-long Confirmation preparation course! This structure invites our youth to invest in their
parish and learn more about the faith community to which they are committing before beginning their
year of sacrament-specific instruction. Therefore, if you are at least a sophomore in high school and
would like to begin sacrament-specific preparation for Confirmation, please be sure that you have been
active in at least one of the following faith formation programs approved by the Archdiocese:
 Attendance at 75% of our Sunday evening youth ministry programming for the 2015-2016 year.
 Enrollment in a Catholic high school.
 An Archdiocesan-approved faith formation curriculum in the home.
Please see our page on the St. Louise website at http://stlouise.org/152 for more details. Kindly contact Annarose O'Brien-Wilson,

Liturgy, Prayer and Worship
An Important Note from Fr Gary—
Respect for the Eucharist
Dear Friends of St. Louise,
A host, presumably consecrated, was found on the floor following the 7:30AM Mass
last week. This has occurred several times in the last couple of months. Please
remember the General Instruction of the Roman Missal: “As soon as the
communicant receives the host, he or she consumes the whole of it.” (n. 161)
In order to keep the communion procession flowing smoothly, if you receive in the
hand, please take one step to the side, and while still in the Eucharistic Minister’s
view, consume the host.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter,
Fr. Gary
Jubilee Year of Mercy Reflection
NINETEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Last Sunday’s “P\parable of the rich fool” delivered a compelling
reason to do the right thing—now: “You fool, this night your life will
be demanded of you” (Luke 12:20). Today, Jesus warns us: “You
also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of
Man will come” (12:40). Though we do not know when our Master
will come, we do know what our Master expects to find. Jesus
expects us to be vigilant (12:37) and diligent (12:42) in our work for
the kingdom, but also filled with reverent mercy toward our fellow
servants and ourselves. Hopefully, Jesus’ warning not to get drunk
and beat each other up (12:45) does not apply to us literally! But what changes do I
need to make, right now, so that the many people outside “the Master’s house” will
want to come inside to experience the healing comfort of Jesus’ own mercy in the
compassion of Jesus’ modern-day disciples?

19th Sunday in Ordinary Time
“For where your treasure is, there also will your heart
be.” Luke 12:34
Jesus encourages us to build up our treasure in heaven. The
world encourages us to build up our treasure in real estate,
investments, and material goods. How much time are you
investing in building up a worldly treasure? How much time are
you investing in building up a heavenly treasure? To invest
more time in the things of heaven, you must let go of some of
the things of this world.

i Muchas Gracias !
