LENTEN REGULATIONS
The season of Lent begins February 10, 2016 with Ash Wednesday
Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are obligatory days of universal fast and
abstinence. Fasting is obligatory for all who have completed their 18th year until
the beginning of their 60th year. Fasting allows a person to eat one full meal.
Two smaller meals may be taken, not to equal one full meal. Abstinence (from
meat) is obligatory for all who have completed their 14th year of age (c. 1252). If
possible, the fast on Good Friday is continued until the Easter Vigil (on Holy
Saturday night) as the “paschal fast” to honor the suffering and death of the Lord
Jesus and to prepare to share more fully and celebrate more readily his
Resurrection (see Sacrosanctum Concilium, 109). Fridays in Lent are obligatory
days of abstinence (from meat) for all who have completed their 14th year. As
always, anyone for whom fasting or abstinence would pose a health risk is
excused.

If you receive offertory envelopes by mail, you should have
seen an envelope for the weekend of February 13-14 for
the National Black and Indian Mission Collection
(BIM). Since 1884, proceeds from BIM Collection are
distributed as grants to dioceses supporting and
strengthening evangelization programs, which would
otherwise be in danger of disappearing among the Black,
American Indian, Eskimo, and Aleute communities of the
United States. If you do not have envelopes and would like
to contribute to this collection, you can make a check or put
cash in an envelope and write “For the Black and Indian
Missions” on the outside or the check’s memo line. Please
place your envelope in the collection basket, together with
the regular weekly offering.

The Adoration Chapel is
located next to the school
kitchen’s back entrance.
La Capilla está al lado de la
entrada a la cocina en la parte
lateral de la escuela.
The Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration Ministry would like
to thank all adorers, permanent or substitutes, for their
commitment to spending an hour in front of the Blessed
Sacrament. We will ask you to pray for Father Joseph
Norys, son of one of our parishioners, and for his parish
and Perpetual Adoration chapel back in Austria. They
recently began Perpetual Adoration in their church and
have about 30 people per hour doing adoration everyday.
This should be a challenge for us! The Adoration Chapel
has been in our parish for more than 22 years. Currently
we have approximately 100 faithful adorers who cover 168
hours a week. Please consider challenging yourself in this
Year of Mercy and register to cover an hour as an extra
sacrifice during Lent. You can choose any hour or day of
the week, not only the hours that are opened. A sign-up
sheet and more information about our chapel will be
available on the semi-round table in the Gathering Area.
CHILDREN’S CLASSES ON ASH WEDNESDAY
Children’s Faith Formation will go to class at the regular
time at 6:30 PM. The children will then proceed to the
church with their class to attend Ash Wednesday Mass.
Parents are encouraged to stay with their child and attend
Mass with them. Please pick your child up in the church
after Mass (not in the school).
40 DAYS FOR LIFE CAMPAIGN

COLECTAS ADICIONALES
www.usccb.org/ccee.

Year of Mercy / Año de La Misericordia
The season of Lent during this Jubilee Year should also be
lived more intensely as a privileged moment to celebrate and
experience God’s mercy. How many pages of Sacred Scripture
are appropriate for meditation during the weeks of Lent to help
us rediscover the merciful face of the Father! We can repeat
the words of the prophet Micah and make them our own: “You,
O Lord, are a God who takes away iniquity and pardons sin,
who does not hold your anger forever, but are pleased to show
mercy. You, Lord, will return to us and have pity on your
people. You will trample down our sins and toss them into the
depths of the sea.” (Mic. 7:18-19)
Volverá a
(Miq. 7:18-19)
FEBRUARY’S CHALLENGE:
DESAFÍO PARA EL MES DE FEBRERO:
FEED THE HUNGRY
DAR DE COMER AL HAMBRIENTO
Theme for this Sunday: Stretching our Limits
Tema para este Domingo: Estirando nuestros Límites
Simon Peter fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, "Go away
from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man." Then Jesus said
to Simon, "Do not be afraid; from now on you will be
catching people." (Lk. 5:8,10b)
pecador!” “No temas; desde ahora serás pescador de
hombres —le dijo Jesús a Simón. (Luc. 5:8,10b)

Did it strengthen you?

others? How has faith in God strengthened you?

Dios? ¿Te dio fortaleza esta experiencia?
