From the Pastor:
Just These Lines My Friends…
.
To say that summer is here and we are getting ready for Vacation Bible School! Our staff
ministry team is so looking forward to having our kids and community children come; and we are
excited about the mission opportunity to share the ‘good news’ of Jesus with all of God’s children. We
are making plans for a bilingual VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL “El Rey Que Viene- The Coming King”
July 28- Aug 1st. Can’t wait to have fun with the kids, make crafts, play games, learn bible stories and
new songs in English and ‘Español.’
There is a part for everyone in the church to play in nurturing
God’s children – Won’t you help in some way with Vacation Bible School this year?
Hopefully summer for you and yours brings some time of relaxation, maybe even vacation.
Through the years, the family Koontz learned to appreciate vacation time as a time to get away from
our many activities and responsibilities and just focus on being together as a family. Some folks enjoy
traveling to new places; others prefer (or needs require) staying at home. In the early years, we took
what we called ‘mini vacations’ which were going on the road with Dad, the traveling salesman. As our
kids got older, we made a point of thinking about the places we wanted to visit as a family, and each
vacation was a time to ‘make memories.’ Through the years, we have enjoyed trips to the beach, the
mountains, camping trips, and have seen quite a few of our National Parks. While on the road, we have
enjoyed worshipping in other United Methodist congregations and other churches as our travel
schedule allowed. Sometimes, we have enjoyed ‘worshipping in the woods’ or even singing some
hymns in the car on our way to somewhere. Whether you find yourselves far away or close to home,
….try to pause and rest, and keep the Sabbath, by finding somewhere to worship on Sunday!
Remember the Sabbath was created for our good….and is something for us to do year round as we put
God first by worshipping the Holy One, and praising God for the many blessings in our lives! Don’t
forget to bring Pastor Deb a bulletin…I love to ‘share ideas’ from other churches….and when you are
in town, I hope to see you in church on Sunday!
I love being your Pastor and Friend….

JULY 11th?!
Yep, July 11th
We are making plans for a bilingual VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL entitled
“El Rey Que Viene --- The Coming King” the last week in July --From July 28th through August 1st from 6:00 – 8:30pm. A meal will be provided from 6:00 –
6:30pm. Please mark your calendars now to participate. It is for ages 3 to 14 for kids and
there will be an adult class as well. We need your help in many ways so I hope you will sign
up by marking the yellow card in your bulletin with your name and phone number saying want
to help with VBS or you may call the church office and ask for Sue Newman, 276-4628. We
are anticipating and looking forward to an exciting time with the kids and hope you will be
here to experience it with us.
The youth had a great time at the Flynn’s house on June 1st for our cookout and bonfire.
For some of the youth it was their very first experience of having s’mores or toasting
marshmallows!
We played games and took some great photos around the fire. We’re very excited that our
newest youth member joined in, Miss Raven Brown who is now a rising 6th grader!
We’re also excited about our current summer plans, including our participation with
CARITAS and our trip to Kings Dominion! We’d like to extend a big thank you to our young
adults who have volunteered to chaperone the Kings Dominion trip!
Don’t get left out of the picture and
have to hear about it from friends.
Join us at noon (or come early and visit)
When we gather in Fellowship Hall to enjoy hotdogs & hamburgers
and all the fixings!
RSVP by July 9th

My Parents Table: A Community Meal Program
As many of you may know the free community meal program at Ramsey Memorial
United Church is up and running. To date we have served 4 community meals, each
on the last Sat of each month. On average we have served approximately 32
individuals at each meal. These individuals are typically not members of the church but
church members are welcome to join us for the meal! Thanks to all our Ramsey
members (especially Agape) who have helped prepare food, prep food, greet guests,
serve food or given donations. We would love to have additional Ramsey members to
help! The meal will always be the last Sat of each month. Call Sherry Fox at 316-3377
if you would like to participate. This is a great opportunity to enjoy great fellowship and
extend an act of kindness to the community. If you are unable to join us but would like
to make a financial donation, please make a check to Ramsey Memorial United
Methodist Church and put “My Parent’s Table” in the memo line. The financial
donations help us prepare nutritious meals that might not otherwise be possible.
Hope to see you soon!

United Methodist Women
Summer, Lemonade, Books and Lots of Missions
FROM THE FINANCE COMMITTEE
Each year, we ask the various groups within the church with a checking account to give us a statement
showing income and expenditures, and we do this for two reasons. The Book of Discipline states that we are
responsible for all monies collected and expended by Ramsey Church from any and all sources. But it is also
a good way to publicize the generosity and hard work of these groups.
We received statements from 13 groups - Sunday School classes, UMW Circles, the Choir, the BUCS, the
Youth, and the Mission Team. For 2013, they reported total income of $37,897, of which about 1/3 came from
member donations. The rest of it came from various fundraisers – selling pecans, barbecue, knives,
Brunswick stew, a yard sale, a craft sale, an auction, a bake sale, the Valentine dinner/dance, Souper Bowl
Sunday, Santa Breakfast, Easter breakfast, spaghetti dinner, prayer breakfast, Bethlehem Walk, newspaper
recycling, and the Mothers’ Day/Fathers’ Day bulletin inserts.
What did they do with all this money? Several thousand dollars were donated back to our church for the
Lenten Offering, the Ellen Project, our Food Pantry (who gave out 673 bags of groceries last year!), youth
retreats, love baskets, books for the UMW Reading Program, CARITAS, White Christmas, assistance to a
church member, flowers for the sick, meals for our church families after funerals, and memorials.

A lot of money was donated to various groups in our community and our state – the Crossover Clinic, the
Manchester Rescue Squad, the Bensley Rescue Squad, the Hermitage Samaritan Fund, the Blackstone Fund,
Shalom Farms, the Mattaponi Indian Fund, Richmond Hill, the Appalachian Mission Project and our own
Marion Mission Team.
And there was still enough money left to spread all our country and beyond through programs like Easter
Seals, Salvation Army, UMCOR, World Vision, Conference kits, Be The Match, Compassion Child, and
Hurricane Sandy relief.
What an impressive list! Thanks to all these groups for their energy and dedication. Your stewardship is an
example to us all.

SAVE THE DATE
Saturday, OCTOBER 18 Ramsey UMW will present a one day retreat.
We are going to explore how God Is Closer than You Think.
How do Waldo of where in the world fame & Michangelo help us to realize how close God truly is? On
October 18, we hope to help you find out.
In a one day retreat, we are going to explore how God Is Closer than You Think: This Can Be the
Greatest Moment of Your Life Because This Moment Is the Place Where You Can Meet God. This is what
the Bible promises, so why settle for less? God reaches out all the time. Come and find out how to reach
back and "complete" the connection - to your joy and His.
los(as) niños(as).
Queramos o no,
Muchas gracias a nuestros
