In two weeks, there will be a special collection to benefit the Clergy Health and Retirement Trust which ensures an appropriate level of care and quality of life for our 614 Boston priests. Our priests share the good news, perform good works, and spread good faith. Remember the priests who have made a difference in your life, and consider honoring them with a generous gift to the collection. Thank you in advance for your prayerful support of this important collection. Come to the Waters of Healing Retreats. The Retreats run from 9:00 am—5:00 pm at a confidential location. The one day retreat is designed to help women hurting from past abortions experience the personal love of Christ and find hope for healing. Pre-registration is required. The requested donation is $10.00 to cover lunch costs. For more information contact Project Rachel at 508-6513100 or [email protected]. “God’s forgiveness knows no bounds.” This week’s second collection is for Catholic University of America. Please be as generous as your means will allow. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ A few items of interest from Fr. Fitzgerald: A new Saint… On Sunday, September 4, Pope Francis will canonize Mother Teresa of Calcutta at a Mass in Saint Peter’s Square in Rome. Her selfless dedication to the poorest of the world lives on in the religious order she founded, the Missionaries of Charity. Their ministry now is spread throughout the world, even in our own Archdiocese. Pope Emeritus Benedict XV once said that in the midst of a world full of trouble and turmoil, we can look to the saints of every generation whom the Lord has raised up as examples of faith, hope, and charity. Along with the recently canonized Saint John XXIII and Saint John Paul II, and now Saint Teresa of Calcutta, we can rejoice in having known those examples in our own lifetimes, knowing that the Lord never abandons his Church. A new priest resident… Last weekend we welcomed as a priest resident Fr. Carlo Calleja, a priest from Malta, who will be pursuing a Doctoral degree in Theology at Boston College for the next several years. Judging from the warm welcome he received, we can believe that he will be happy with us at Saint Columbkille’s. RCIA… The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults will start up again this fall on Sunday, October 2, at 10:00 am in the parish rectory conference room. The rectory is adjacent to the church on Market Street. The program is for individuals who are interested in becoming Catholic who have never been baptized or have been baptized in a Protestant denomination. Also, it is for Catholics who have not received the sacraments beyond Baptism. We are delighted that the instructors for the program will be Angela and Franklin Harkins a married couple who are professors at the Boston College School of Theology and Ministry. They will be assisted in the instruction by Henry Shea, S.J., who is a Jesuit seminarian assigned on the weekend to Saint Columbkille Parish for field experience. Each class is for one hour and will end before the 11:15 Mass each Sunday morning. If you are interested, please call the parish secretary at the rectory office (617) 782-5774 to register. You may also sign up by email [email protected] Spread the word to anyone you may know who may have interest. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ On page 6 of this week’s bulletin you will find before and after pictures of St. Mary Magdelene Church in Petite Rivier, Gaibo, Haiti.
