APPLICATION PROCESS FOR A
DUPLICATE RESIDENT
CERTIFICATE
CERTIFICADO DE REGISTRO DE LA CIUDADANO DE LA
UNION EUROPEO
For a Residente Comunitario con carácter permanente
Based on information supplied by Fuengirola Comisaria on Nov 12th
2013
1. Call to the Comisaria and make an appointment – Cita Previa.
2. Collect a copy of form Modelo 790 – Tasa: Reconocimientos,
Autorizaciones y Concursos.
3. Complete and take the Modelo 790 to the bank and pay the fee.
4. Go to the town hall and get an updated Certificado de
Empadronamiento – must not be more than 3 months old.
5. Prepare photocopies of your Passport or National Identity Card.
(Passport; Copies of first page and photo page)
If you have a photocopy of your original Certificado also take that with
you
6. If your Certificado is deteriorated, lost, misplaced or stolen you can
either present a copy of the relevant Police report (if made) or complete
and sign a declaration at the Comiseria on the date of your
appointment.

7. On the date of your appointment take all the documents you have
with you
PLUS YOUR PASSPORT OR NATIONAL IDENTITY CARD
8. Duplicate certificate (now in new format with a smaller “pop-out”
section) will be issued immediately.
NOTES:
(1a) - advised that currently appointments are being given for approx. 5
days from date of request but the reality appears to be longer than that.
NB - if the new original certificate is required urgently it’s advised that
you should go with all the papers and the police will try to issue it on the
same day. (Not guaranteed and must be an emergency).
(3b) - Current fee is 10, 40€.
Tick the 11th box down that reads: Certificado de Registro de
Residente Comunitario o Tarjeta de Residencia de familiar de un
ciudadano de la Unión.
(4c) – Current fee is 2.55€ - (machine for stamp is usually in the hall
outside the office in Fuengirola…press the button for the certificate first
and then put the money in).
Note; Request a copy of your ‘Certificado de Empadronamiento. (This
must be current) from the office Padron at your local town hall.
(5d) – Passport or National Identity Card MUST be still in date and not
expired. If this is not the case; it must be renewed before applying for
the duplicate Certificado.

NB - When asked if any other documents were required; Medical
Certificate / Health Insurance / Proof of Income etc; the answer was
NO. Not required as already a Residente Permanente. (However, as
you should have a Social Security Card it is advisable to take it (the
original card as well as a photocopy with you as well . . . just in case)!
**The same process is to be followed if you need to make any changes
to the information on the Certificate.
Change of Address
**The new certificate will be issued by the local Comisaria when proof of
new address is provided via Certificado de Empadronamiento.
Change of Name
**In case of marriage take new passport and copy marriage certificate
(International issued in various languages or a certified translation.
*** It was highlighted that the Certificado is only valid when
accompanied by an in date passport or National Identity Card and it is
the responsibility of the Resident to have the necessary certificate.
*** In the event of loss of a certificate a new NIE number is never
issued…you maintain the same number for life.
