WHAT`S INSIDE: Diaconate Ordination for Gerald J. Zukauckas
January 31, 2010 Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time Diaconate Ordination for Gerald J. Zukauckas Our prayers and best wishes go to Gerald J. Zukauckas who will be ordained a permanent deacon for the Archdiocese of Atlanta next Saturday, February 6 here at the Cathedral. A parishioner of Christ the King since 2003, Gerald will serve our parish family, joining Deacons McNabb, Robichaux and McManus. His calling to the permanent diaconate began when his wife Sharon arranged for them to bring home the Elijah Cup to pray for vocations for a week. Shortly after that, Deacons McNabb and Robichaux held a meeting at the Cathedral to provide information about being a deacon. As a result of that meeting, and with intensive prayer, daily Mass and time in the Adoration Chapel, he submitted his application and his five year journey began. 2699 Peachtree Road, NE Atlanta, Georgia 30305 404-233-2145 www.cathedralofchristtheking.org WHAT’S INSIDE: Active Parishioner Status Page 2 Youth Choir Festival Page 3 In Gerald’s words, “I look forward to my Ordination with Praise and Thanksgiving to God Almighty, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, in veneration of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God and Mother of the Church and with a fervent love for my Catholic Faith”. Deacon Zukauckas’ first Mass serving as a Deacon will be next Saturday, February 6 at 5 pm. A reception will follow in the Hyland Center. Please join us next Saturday afternoon to rejoice with Deacon Zukauckas and his family on this great occasion. We look forward to his service among us. With the additional evening daily Mass and increased attendance, we use more altar linens and could use additional help in caring for the altar linens. The work can be done in your home on a flexible schedule. We especially need your help at Easter and Christmas. If you are interested in helping, please contact Kevin Culver at 404233-2145 x428 or [email protected]. Wedding Workshop — February 1 If a wedding at the Cathedral is in your future, plan to attend this workshop, held the first Monday of each month (February 1) at 7 pm in the Cathedral. Brides-to-be, their mothers, their fiancés and any interested friends are invited to come. Members of the Wedding Guild will explain wedding procedures and answer questions concerning the planning of the ceremony. What Is An “Active” Parishioner Status? Active parishioners rightfully look to their parish for any number of services. Among these are: • Certification as godparents/sponsors for Baptisms and Confirmation • Active parishioner tuition rates in Catholic schools • Use of the facilities for liturgical services such as Baptisms, Weddings and Funerals. • Enrolling children in the Religious Education Programs and Sacramental program for First Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation. These rights and services within the Church bring with them certain obligations, as in any form of community. The criteria for determining active parishioner status include: • Be a registered member of the parish. • Attend Mass at Christ the King on a regular basis • Support the parish through the giving of your time, talent and treasure. Receiving regular mailings from the Cathedral (newsletters, envelopes) means that you are registered in the parish. If you are not registered, please pick up a registration form at the back of the church or at the front desk. 2 FOURTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JANUARY 31, 2010 Around the Parish continued We Welcome New Parishioners Mass Location Change - Wednesday, February 10 Mr. & Mrs. David A. These choristers , with their Director, Dr. Tim Wissler, will participate with youth from seven other parishes on that day, culminating in their providing the music in an 82-voice choir for the vigil Mass at 5:30 pm. We are proud of our young singers and their willingness to share their time and talent in weekly rehearsal, singing at our 9 am Mass throughout the school year and helping to celebrate special events in the archdiocese. We thank all members of the Cathedral Boy Choir and Girl Choir for singing at this weekend’s vigil Mass to celebrate Catholic Schools Week, and send our support to those who will be singing next weekend at St. Joseph’s. (All parishioners are welcome to attend this beautiful liturgy on February 6 at 5:30 pm in Marietta.) Stewardship of Treasure Jeremiah declares that the Lord knew him before he was born, and dedicated and appointed him to his role as prophet even before he drew breath. We, too, are known and sent by the Lord. What deeds of love and service are mine to perform?
