The following information was taken from an article in the Knight of
Columbus Columbia magazine, Sept. 2016.
In 1979 and many years thereafter Mother Teresa spoke of what
would become of a nation that legalizes abortion. After reading her
below proclamation, you will now see how correct she was.
Upon receiving the Nobel Prize in 1979, Mother Teresa said "to me
the nations who have legalized abortion, they are the poorest nations.
They are afraid of the little one, they are afraid of the unborn child,
and the child must die because they don't want to feed one more child, to educate one more
child." In 1994, at the National Prayer Breakfast, attended by congressional leaders of both
parties and by President and Mrs. Clinton, Mother Teresa made a direct plea to the American
people: “I feel that the greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion, because it is a war against
the child, a direct killing of the innocent child, murder by the mother herself. And if we accept
that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another”.
“Any country that accepts abortion is not teaching its people to love, but to use any violence to
get what they want.”
Our Knight of Columbus Supreme Knight Carl Anderson addressed the 2016 Supreme
Convention saying: “Once again we meet during a presidential election campaign in the United
States and once again we face the question: “How should Catholics exercise their
responsibilities as citizens?”
Catholics often confront a dilemma in deciding how to vote: Can we support a candidate who
may be attractive for many reasons but who supports abortion? Some partisan advocates have
sought to excuse support for pro-abortion candidates through a complex balancing act. They
claim other issues are important enough to offset a candidate’s support for abortion. But the
right to abortion is not just another political issue; it is in reality a legal regime that has resulted
in more than 40 million deaths. 40 million people is greater than the entire population of
Canada. What political issue could possibly outweigh this issue? The answer of course is none.
Abortion is different. Abortion is the killing of the innocent on a massive scale. We need to end
the political manipulation of Catholic voters by advocates. It is time to end the entanglement of
Catholic people with abortion killing. It is time to stop creating excuses for voting for proabortion politicians. We will never succeed in building a culture of life if we continue to vote for
politicians who support a culture of death. Catholic voters have the power to transform our
politics”.
We can start by heeding the words that St. Mother Teresa spoke while receiving the Nobel
Peace Prize in 1979. “And so today, let us here make a strong resolution: We are going to
save every little child, every unborn child, give them a chance to be born…Let us all pray that
we have the courage to stand by the unborn child, and give the child an opportunity to love and
to be loved, and I think with God’s grace we will be able to bring peace in the world”.

Nuestro Caballero de Colón, el Caballero Supremo Carl Anderson dirigió la Convención
Suprema 2016 diciendo: "Una vez más nos reunimos durante una campaña de elección
presidencial en los Estados Unidos y una vez más nos enfrentamos a la pregunta: " ¿Cómo
deben los Católicos ejercer sus responsabilidades como ciudadanos?".
Los Católicos con frecuencia enfrentan un dilema a la hora de decidir cómo votar: podemos
apoyar un candidato que puede ser atractivo por muchas razones pero que apoya el aborto?
Algunos partidarios defensores han buscado para justificar el apoyo a favor del aborto a los
candidatos a través de un acto complejo de equilibrio. Alegan otroas problemas son lo
suficientemente importantes como para compensar el apoyo al aborto. Pero el derecho al
aborto no es sólo otra cuestión política; es en realidad un régimen jurídico que ha generado
más de 40 millones de muertes. 40 millones de personas es mayor que toda la población de
Canadá. ¿Qué problema político podría posiblemente compensar este problema? Desde
luego, la respuesta es ninguno.
El aborto es diferente. El aborto es la matanza de inocentes en una escala masiva.
Necesitamos poner fin a la manipulación política de los votantes Católicos por los defensores.
Ya es hora de acabar con el enredo de la gente Católica matando con el aborto. Es hora de
dejar de crear excusas para votar a favor del aborto de los políticos. Nunca tendremos éxito en

política".
Podemos comenzar prestando atención a las palabras que S. Madre Teresa dijo recibiendo el
Premio Nobel de Paz en 1979. “Y por tanto hoy, vamos a hacer aquí una resolución fuerte:
vamos a salvar a cada niño pequeño, cada niño aún no nacido, darles una posibilidad de nacer
… Oremos todos para tener el valor para apoyar al niño aún no nacido y dar al niño una
oportunidad de amar y ser amados, y pensar con la gracia de Dios que seremos capaces de
traer la paz en el mundo”.
