For us, this time of year is more than “the holiday season.” These December weeks help to put us in touch with events surrounding the first coming of Jesus, the Messiah, even as we look to His Coming at the end of time. We are also reminded and encouraged to cherish the message of peace and joy as a foundation of our lives as Christians; we make our own the mission of Jesus as the Servant who brought good news to the poor. The year that is ending has been momentous for the Church. The election of Pope Francis has seen a renewal that invites Catholics and all believers to rediscover the essential Gospel message of mercy, love and forgiveness. Through the Church’s sacraments, each of us has access to the richness of the love that God has for us. We wish you and your loved ones Advent and Christmas blessings. May the Word Made Flesh bring peace to you and to all people of good will. We are in the last days of our Advent preparations for the celebration of our Savior’s birth at Christmas. As Catholics, we participate in different ways in order to prepare for the great miracle of Jesus’ birth into this world. We recall the events of Joseph and Mary’s journey to Bethlehem in ‘Las Posadas’, the Novena of Simbang Gabi Masses leading into Christmas Eve, and the Children’s Christmas Pageant reenacting the Gospel story of Christmas, just to name a few. Hopefully each one of us has also taken the time to prepare ourselves individually, making a place of rest for our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Öâx xá xÄ VÜ|áàÉ ç fx©ÉÜ5 Lucas 2:11 When the night of Christmas comes this year, I pray that each of us will truly know the great act of love we receive as a gift from our God in the birth of Jesus as a little child. “For unto you is born this day … "Hoy ha nacido un Salvador, que es el Cristo y Señor" Lucas 2:11 This one act, as Pope Francis states, is an encounter of Jesus, and he describes it as “Christmas is God’s meeting with his people. It is also a consolation, a mystery of consolation.” Let us thank God that He has come to be with us by sending us His Only Son, Jesus Christ as our loving Lord and brother. May God Bless you these last days of Advent and throughout the Christmas Season! In Christ, Fr. We saw our children’s ornaments, and various ornaments from places we have visited. Handcrafted ornaments from a Saint Lawrence Christmas Crafts Faire, and our own crafts including eggs decorated with beads. As we positioned the ornaments on the tree, there was one combination that captured our imagination: a carved/etched wood circle from Canada that said PEACE, and a decorated egg that said LOVE. What better place to end this column on Christmas: It was standing room only at the annual elementary Christmas concert, one of the traditional events oftheholidayseason.StudentsfromPre‐K to ifthgradesangsongsoftheseason, this year led by Saint Lawrence music teacher ErikaDeMonner.Weeksbeforetheconcert classes practiced their carols a cappella, which allowed Mrs. DeMonner to change keys and encourage singing without depending on the music. For the concert, piano instructor Maria Pinto accompanied the singers. The best seats in the house were reserved for the family that bought front row seats at last year’s auction, something to remember when the auction rollsaroundagain. Love and Peace this Christmas Season from Social Concerns and St. Vincent de Paul. Fourth Sunday of Advent “When he discovered that Mary was with child, Joseph resolved to end their engagement with as little disgrace as possible. But obedient to the voice of God, he changed those plans and became instead the protector of the child Jesus and His mother, Mary.
