Dear Friends:
As the events of our Golden Jubilee Year draw to
their close, we have much to look forward to in the future.
With the opening of the Youth and the Adult Ministries
Centers we see that the thrust of our parish is indeed
multigenerational! We always look forward never
forgetting our past.
We are a diverse people with many needs of which
age, language and culture are just a small portion of the
wonderful challenges which we face. Parish programs,
both the Mother Church and the Mission, are constantly in
a state of growth. Each new challenge also offers a greater
sense of communal life and many opportunities for
expanded ministries.
This handbook is an exercise in hope! It is a way to view the parish and mission
communities with an invitation to deeper involvement. This Parish Ministry Handbook is but a
glimpse of our parish family. It only expresses some of our needs. I hope that you will find that
“special ministry” of which you might say, “I can do that!” I promise that your involvement in
the ministries of this parish family will deepen your relationship with God and your
commitment to the work of building the Kingdom of God!
Please consider this Parish Ministries Handbook as my formal invitation for you to
become more actively involved in the life of your parish family! We look forward to gifts
which you bring being shared for the “common good” and we look forward to sharing our gifts
with you!

Involvement in liturgical ministry gives us purpose and keeps us on the right path as we endeavor
to fulfill our mission to bring all people closer to God. Listed below are many opportunities for
involvement in the Liturgical Life of Blessed Sacrament Church.
ADORATION

" ome to me all of you who are weary and find life burdensome and I will refresh you."(Mt.
11:28) Eucharistic Adoration is simply our response to Jesus' love for us, whereby each of us is willing to
spend a quiet holy hour of prayer in His Eucharistic Presence once a week on a regular basis. Exposition
of the Blessed Sacrament takes place Tuesday 9:00am-8:00pm in the Chapel.

These vital ministers prepare the altar table and assist the Celebrant during Mass. For all ages, the
only sacramental requirements are Baptism and the reception of First Holy Communion.

decorating the worship environment in our church with each passing liturgical season. We welcome your
creative ideas, your talents and your service to enhance the worship experience during any given liturgical
season.

Are you interested in graphic design? Love working with computers? Our Audio/Visual Ministry
designs the PowerPoint announcements shown before Mass each weekend. Do you have a gift for
working with Digital Arts or Media Production? We use an iPad and computers to propel the visual aids

and music during Mass and are looking for volunteers to help in this ministry.

community be involved in ministering to the family of the deceased. If you have a gift of compassion,
consider involvement in this ministry.

EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION

To be invited by the Pastor as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion is a humbling
honor and privilege! As a confirmed Roman Catholic, you are able to serve in this vital ministerial role.
This is a ministry for adults and confirmed young adults, and is an opportunity to share your faith in our
Lord, Jesus Christ through the act of distributing the Body and Blood of Christ.
Ministros Extraordinarios de la Santa Comunión. ¡El hecho de ser invitado por el Pastor a ser
Ministro Extraordinario de la Sagrada Comunión es un humilde honor y privilegio! Como Católico
Romano confirmado, estas capacitado para servir en este rol ministerial vital. Este es un ministerio para

LECTORS

A lector spreads the Good News and gives witness to the central role of the Word of God in the
life of the church. Training is offered by our Diocese every fall and early spring. You must have received
the Sacraments of Baptism and Holy Eucharist and be a Catholic in good standing. Rehearsals as required.

MINISTERS OF HOSPITALITY (USHERS)

The Ministers of Hospitality have a special role at every parish liturgy, supported by the gifts of
the Holy Spirit. These gifts enable the minister to build up the Body of Christ. In their welcome and

Christ-like attitude, ministers of hospitality ensure that the faithful see and experience the love of Christ.
Ministros de Hospitalidad (Ujieres). Los Ministros de Hospitalidad tienen un rol especial en
cada liturgia parroquial, apoyados por los dones del Espíritu Santo. Estos dones permiten al ministro a
edificar el Cuerpo de Cristo. En su actitud de bienvenida y semejanza a Cristo, los ministros de la
hospitalidad se aseguran de que los fieles vean y experimenten el amor de Cristo.
MINISTRY TO THE SICK & SHUT-IN

This ministry is comprised of caring and prayerful parishioners, committed to bringing the Body
of Christ and the Word of God to those unable to join their faith community at the Table of the Lord.
They visit local nursing homes, assisted living centers, the hospital, homes of the sick and shut-in, and the
Mike Conley Hospice House by scheduled weekly arrangement.
Ministers to the Sick continue their educational and spiritual enrichment by participating in
diocesan presentations and parish programs to enhance relations with God as well as those entrusted to the
ministers spiritual care.
Ministerio de los Enfermos e Impedidos. Este ministerio se compone de feligreses cariñosos y
orantes, comprometidos a llevar el Cuerpo de Cristo y la Palabra de Dios a aquellos que no pueden unirse
a su comunidad de fe en la Mesa del Señor. Ellos visitan los asilos de ancianos locales, centros de vida
asistida, el hospital, los hogares de los enfermos e impedidos, y la Casa de Hospicio Mike Conley cual
tiene una cita semanal programada.
Los Ministros de los Enfermos continúan su enriquecimiento educativo y espiritual participando
en las presentaciones diocesanas y los programas parroquiales para mejorar su relación con Dios, al igual

MUSIC MINISTRY

The music ministry at Blessed Sacrament serves the parish family to help enable full, conscious
and active participation in liturgical celebrations. (The Lord gives to all of us.) Come join any of our
wonderful Music Ministries.
Adult Choir: The adult choir is comprised of volunteer members who give of their time and
talents to glorify God through the ministry of music. Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings from 6:30pm
until 8:00pm in the church. The Adult Choir usually sings at the 10:00 am Mass on Sundays and at other
Holy Days and special events including diocesan choir festivals.
Children’s Choir: The Children’s Choir program is committed to fostering excellent
musicianship, knowledgeable participation in liturgy and an active prayer life. This includes ongoing
music theory, ear training and sight singing; fundamentals of liturgy and involvement in the prayer life of
the community. Children in grades 2-5 are invited to be part of this ministry.
Cantor Program: The Cantor Ministry is designed to help lead the members of our
congregation in prayer through song. This group meets at various times throughout the year to rehearse
music for the upcoming liturgical season.
Contemporary Ensemble: The contemporary ensembles sing and play at the 12:00pm and
5:00pm liturgies each Sunday. Accompanied by piano and other instruments, the ensemble sings
moderately challenging two-, three-, and four-part music. Rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings.

Membership in the ensemble is open to all interested singers and instrumentalists after an audition.
Filipino Choir: Bound by their Catholic faith and their love of singing, this ensemble leads
music during our monthly Filipino Mass. Masses are the first Friday of every month in the Day Chapel.
Funeral Choir: The Funeral Choir is comprised of volunteer men and women who want to share
their musical talents by providing beautiful music for those who are grieving over the death of a loved
one. This ensemble sings at funerals and rehearses as needed.
Handbell Choir: This ensemble is comprised of volunteer men and women who prepare a wide
variety of bell literature and share their love of music for the glory of God. Although music reading ability
is not required, it is helpful. They play at various Masses throughout the year.
Hispanic Choir: This dynamic choir joyfully leads our Spanish language liturgies in traditional
and contemporary music from various Hispanic cultures.
Instrumentalists: Instrumentalists add beauty and color to our music ministry. If you play flute,
clarinet, trumpet or other instruments, and want to play at Mass, please contact the Music Office.
Schola Cantorum: The BSCC Schola is a small ensemble of singers that sings works from all
genres of church music. The Schola sings at Midnight Mass, Easter Vigil, and other liturgies throughout
the year. If you are interested in auditioning, please call the music office.
Seasonal Choir: These individuals join the adult choir in preparation for Christmas and Easter.
Youth Choir: The youth in our Parish (grades 6-12) are invited to participate in our Youth
Choir. The group prepares a variety of music from traditional to contemporary and leads the assembly at
various Masses throughout the year.
SACRISTANS
Contact:
The role of Sacristan is a privileged ministry requiring persons who are regular communicants,
dedicated to the liturgy and zealous in their commitment to fostering the spiritual growth of our parish
community. Sacristy related chores are many and are accomplished almost entirely by volunteers who are
responsible for the preparation of liturgical materials before each celebration of mass.
Sacristanes. El papel de Sacristán es un ministerio privilegiado que exige a las personas que son
comulgantes regulares, dedicados a la liturgia y celosos en su compromiso de fomentar el crecimiento
espiritual de nuestra comunidad parroquial. Tareas relacionadas con la Sacristía son muchas y son
realizadas casi en su totalidad por voluntarios que son responsables por la preparación de materiales
litúrgicos antes de la celebración de la Misa.

Religious education and self-enrichment for adults on various subjects is available on a periodic
schedule throughout the year. The schedule is published in the Sunday bulletin, on the Parish website
(www.mybscc.org) and may also be obtained by calling the Parish office. Catholics who are seeking to
complete the Sacrament of Confirmation should call Fr. Cromwell or Chris Stalnaker in the parish office
for details, dates and procedures. You will need a copy of your Baptismal certificate.
Formacion De Adultos. La educación religiosa y el auto-enriquecimiento para adultos sobre
diversos temas está disponible periódicamente durante el año. El horario se publica en el Boletín

PARISH RELIGIOUS EDUCATION PROGRAM (P.R.E.P.)

This program provides a catechetical environment where the students will grow in faith and
experience the love of God and church while they are formed in our Catholic faith tradition. P.R.E.P. is
designed to instill a deep sense of the message revealed by God, of fellowship in the life of the Holy
Spirit, and of service to the entire community as our children and youth are prepared to receive the
sacraments of our faith. P.R.E.P. meets from early September until mid-May. It includes Kindergarten
through Twelfth Grade. If you would like further information or if you are interested in volunteering to
help in this ministry, please call.
Catechists. The catechist must have a desire to share the Good News with children of all ages.
Good communication skills are important. Previous experience is not necessary although familiarity with
Scripture and a basic understanding of Catholic doctrine would be most beneficial. Group and individual
orientation and basic training is provided on campus by the Director of Religious Education. Ongoing
Certification courses are provided throughout the year by the Diocese of Orlando.
Children’s Liturgy of the Word. The purpose of the Children’s Liturgy is to instruct the
children in the Word of God, utilizing diverse methods of education and recreation in a simple but
adequate manner to help them better understand.

A one-week summer Religious Education Program is offered each summer in which a theme is
chosen and developed into an enjoyable faith teaching experience for grade school children - ages 3
through 10. Topics are developed through stories, music, service projects, crafts, games and enjoyable

Youth Ministry has many exciting things to offer our teenagers to help them on their spiritual
journey. This is a safe environment for teens to gather and be a part of the greater community. Whether
it’s being part of the yearly summer mission, peer leader, service opportunities, fun “Hang-Out” night, or
just being part of the group, Blessed Sacrament’s Youth Ministry has something for teens. Events are
scheduled almost every month to build the youth in their Catholic Faith and, of course, to have fun! As
part of service opportunities, the Youth Ministry serves the parish community in numerous ways. Check

The Bridge. Middle School and High School Teens meet every Sunday night from September
through mid-May, 6:00pm to 6:30pm.
The Gathering. High School Teens meet from 6:30pm to 8:00pm with a unique topic to discuss
each session. This is for High School teens who have been confirmed and are looking to continue on with
their journey. The class is set in a relaxed environment with the purpose to make all feel welcome.
Wednesday Youth Bible Sharing. Grades 9 through 12 meet in John Bosco Hall from 6:00pm
to 7:00pm to find unique ways of breaking open the Word of God. It’s always positive and new and
everyone brings a snack to share.
Wednesday Peer Ministry. Teens and Young Adults work together learning leadership skills
and a deeper meaning to their faith with the goal to pass on their Catholic heritage to the rest of the Youth
Group. They design ways to get the “Word” across and make the Youth Group their own. They meet in
John Bosco Hall from 7:00pm to 8:00pm.
1st Friday Night Teens. Grades 9 through 12 meet in John Bosco Hall from 7:00pm to 9:00pm
for a fun time in a safe place to hang out with other teens with snacks, movies, and games.
2nd Friday Night Teens. Grades 6 through 8 meet in John Bosco Hall from 7:00pm to 9:00pm
for a fun time in a safe place to hang out with other teens with snacks, movies, and games.
Peer Ministry. High school teens working together to love and serve the Lord, and their peers.
Leads Sunday Youth Group to help all be the hands of Jesus.

Baptisms are celebrated on Sundays except during Lent. Parents are required to register children
to be baptized at least one month prior to the Baptism and attend pre-baptismal preparation class.

Arrangements for marriage are to be made a minimum of six months prior to setting a marriage
date. Ongoing practice of the faith is presumed. Blessed Sacrament utilizes the FOCCUS instrument
[Facilitating Open Couple Communication] to assist engaged couples in their exploration of their
expectations and their communication and problem solving skills. A married facilitator couple meets with
the engaged to facilitate discussion.

Marriage Preparation. The Diocese and parish make use of the FOCCUS: Facilitating Open
Couple Communication tool. The FOCCUS Ministry, a highly successful and very rewarding ministry for
Catholic married couples, needs couples to assist in sessions of dialogue with those who plan to get
married. The marriage preparation ministers would meet with future couples at least twice to administer
the unit and also to share reflections upon its results.
Diocesan Requirements to be a FOCCUS Couple: 1) Married for at least five years; 2) Be in a
valid Catholic Marriage; 3) Practicing their faith on a regular basis; 4) Attend an appropriate training on
the use of FOCCUS.

BAPTISMAL GARMENTS MINISTRY

This ministry makes stoles for the infants who are baptized at Blessed Sacrament. Volunteers
are needed who have a little spare time to make these garments and can sew a simple straight seam and
embroider by hand or by machine. Directions are available. The infant baptism garments are simple
rectangular pieces of material, lined or hemmed, and embroidered on one side with a cross.

purpose of our Catholic Neighborhood Associations is to network Catholics with those who live nearby,

" e still and Know that I am God"Ps 46:10. Centering Prayer is a method of silent prayer in
which we experience God's presence within us. As we "rest in God" in loving silence, we learn to develop
a more personal and trusting relationship with Him and to consent to His will.
The source of Centering Prayer, as in all methods leading to contemplative prayer, is the
Indwelling Trinity: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The focus of Centering Prayer is the deepening of our
relationship with the living Christ. The benefits of silent prayer include experiencing deep peace and
innermost healing that will carry over in our daily life. The effects of Centering Prayer are ecclesial, as the
prayer tends to build communities of faith and bond the members together in mutual friendship and love.
Our group sessions include the sharing of a period of Silent Centering Prayer, followed by
exchange, discussion and book study. Lectio Divina, the reading and meditation on the Gospel is also
practiced. We are currently reading Father Carl Arico's "A Taste of Silence". Meets Fridays, 9:20am 11:30am, in Room 5.

Cursillo is an opportunity to grow in faith and in spirituality; a deeper understanding of the

teachings of Jesus and how we can serve Him; an experience of living and sharing with others in a loving
and caring Christian community and realizing that this can be extended into our own environment; and a
continuing community that gives support and encouragement empowering the renewed Christians to
persevere in carrying out their Baptismal vows.
Cursillo includes a three-day weekend which begins on Thursday evening and concludes on
Sunday. During these three days, talks are given by lay persons and clergy who have spent time working
together carefully planning and preparing for the Weekend. The Cursillo weekend is not a retreat. There is
no fasting or extended period of silence. The weekend is an opportunity to meet clergy and laity who are
seeking to strengthen their faith. It provides an opportunity through shared prayer, worship, study,
fellowship, laughter, tears, and love to experience the reality of the gift of God's love freely and
unconditionally given. Holy Eucharist will be celebrated daily.

A universal feast of the church, Divine Mercy Sunday is celebrated on the Second Sunday of
Easter. At Mass, receive the promise Jesus gave to St. Faustina for those who receive Holy Communion
on this day. "The soul that will go to confession (during Lent) and receive Holy Communion shall obtain
complete forgiveness of sin and punishment." (Diary 699).
The Eucharistic Apostles of the Divine Mercy Cenacle Prayer Circle. The Divine Mercy
Prayer Circle studies the messages and promises given to St. Faustina by Jesus. This Prayer Circle meets
Thursdays in Classroom #6 at 9:30am.
The Marian Movement of Priests Cenacle Prayer Circle. The Cenacle Prayer Circle meets
Thursdays 5:30pm to 7:30pm in a private home. In this Cenacle we study the messages given to Fr. Gobbi
by Mary to guide us through these troubled times. Cenacle prayers and acts of mercy are stressed.

KOC Council #13240. The Knights organization has over 200 members, making it the largest
unit at the B.S.C.C. campus. The Council meets at 7:00 pm every first Thursday of the month in John

Bosco Hall and the officers meet on the last Thursday of the month. Founded by Fr. Michael McGiveney
from New Haven, CT and chartered by the State Legislature on March 29, 1882 as a fraternal benefit
society under the principles of charity, unity, fraternity and patriotism, and having donated more than 1.4
billion to charity, the Knights have become “the corner stone” of the Catholic Church. Council 13240’s
main priority is to help Blessed Sacrament parish and the community at large through fundraising and
activities, donating over $10,000 each year to local charities including: the Russell Home, Florida Special
Olympics, Outward Sign Food Pantry, Down Syndrome Association, Seminarians, Blessed Sacrament
Parish and many others. The members practice stewardship within the parish, assisting in the Parish
Family Picnic, Fall Festival and also assist at Sunday masses as Lectors, Extraordinary Ministers of Holy

LADIES GUILD

The Blessed Sacrament Ladies Guild was established to serve the pastor and the church, to
provide spiritual and social benefits for its members by maintaining a Christian atmosphere, and to
provide the enjoyment of fellowship, where friendships can grow and be strengthened. The Guild meets
the third Tuesday of the month (September-April) at 12 noon in the Parish Social Hall.
This vibrant group is comprised of enthusiastic ladies who serve Our Lord through commitment
and service to the parish and the community. The Guild raises funds for the parish and local charities
through a weekly Bingo (Oct.-May) and various annual events (i.e., Rummage Sale, Fashion Show, etc.).
The Ladies Guild sponsors a seminarian, hosts the Confirmation Reception, attends an Annual Retreat,
participates in the World Day of Prayer, and has several outings to restaurants and places of interest. The

Guild is a member of the People of Faith, an organization of women and men from local Christian
churches.

The Men’s Club mission is to provide fellowship among men of the parish while strengthening

November. The meeting is usually preceded by a social half hour of food and beverages. We also have
speakers give short presentations on various topics of interest to the members. The Men’s Club hosts a

This growing ministry currently provides services by loving, responsible and experienced volunteers on
Sundays at the 10:00am Mass and the 12:00pm Mass. Child Care is also offered during Religious
Education classes as needed. With the help of more volunteers, childcare will be available during special
parish events, and for ministry meetings. The Nursery is located in Classroom #8, next to the playground.
Volunteers and donations are always accepted and appreciated.

for our priests and for vocations.
We also have an email prayer line. If you aren’t available to answer your phone daily, or if you
haven’t joined us because you are a winter resident and away for a part of the year, you can be a part of
this ministry as long as you can access your email every day. We urge you to add your voice to ours as
we pray for the needs of those who seek our help. If you would like to become a prayer line member,

The Prison Ministry goes to the Lake Correctional Facility in Clermont every Tuesday to
minister to the inmates. Tuesday is known as “Catholic Tuesday” among the inmates. Bible Study, using
the Great Adventure Time Line (Salvation History), is a weekly activity from 9:00am to 11:00am. A
Eucharistic service is done on Tuesday between 1:00pm and 3:30pm. Once a month, Mass is celebrated at
the prison by one of the priests in our parish. RCIA preparations are given to those who wish to receive
the sacraments or want to become a Catholic. Spiritual guidance and counseling are also given. We fulfill
what Jesus’ said in the Beatitudes: “I was in prison and you visited me.” If you are interested in being part

activities for St. Thérése’ Circle. We find our mission through scripture; 2 Corinthians 5:14, “For the love

Anyone who would like to have a companion who listens and asks questions that promote understanding
and discernment about that journey to a deeper relationship.
What can you expect of a Spiritual Director? You can expect one to two hour monthly meetings
in a casual, comfortable, confidential setting. You can expect a good director to keep the focus on the
directee's relationship with God. You can expect a good director to be caring and accepting of your
journey and your feelings about God. A good director will allow God to be the counselor and not give his
or her personal opinions about a course of action for the directee.

The Development Committee serves as an advisory body to the pastor and the Finance
Committee in the long range planning and development of parish plant and facilities. Members of the
Development Committee are selected by the pastor in consultation with the Finance Committee and are
appointed on the basis of their expertise in the areas related to fundraising, plant development,
engineering, architectural design, and finances. The Development Committee receives support and
guidance from the Diocesan Stewardship & Development Office as well as the Office for Building
Planning, and Construction.

The Parish Finance Committee serves as an advisory body to the pastor and the Parish Pastoral
Council in the administration and stewardship of parish finances, budget, parish facilities, and long-range
financial development. Mandated by canon law, parish finance councils, like parish pastoral councils, are
consultative bodies:
Each parish is to have a Finance Council which is regulated by universal law as well as
by norms issued by the diocesan bishop; in this council the Christian faithful, selected
according to the same norms, aid the pastor in the administration of parish goods.
(Canon 537).
Members of the Finance Council are appointed by the pastor on the basis of their expertise in
matters related to accounting and finance, investment management, fundraising/development, budget,
engineering, and law. The three-to-five-member Finance Council receives support and guidance from the
diocesan Department of Finance.
The Parish Finance Committee and the Parish Pastoral Council function interdependently; it is
essential that they communicate with one another in furthering the parish mission.
LITURGICAL COMMISSION

The Blessed Sacrament Liturgical Commission advises and consults with the parish Office of
Worship for the purpose of making informed recommendations to the Pastor regarding programs, policies
and ceremonies benefitting the liturgical life of the parish. Members of the Liturgical Commission are
appointed by the Director of Worship and Director of Music on the basis of their experience with
liturgical ministries.

represents the parish community and provides advice on parish requirements as addressed in the Parish

on the Parish Mission Statement areas of Word, Worship, Community and Service.

BOY SCOUTS

The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral
choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. The same mission
statement applies to all phases of Scouting, including, but not limited to Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, and
Venture Scouts.
Our recently offered VENTURE Program (Comprised of "aging-out" Boy Scouts, consist of
youth from fourteen to age 21, both males and females. Neither needs to have prior experience in a
scouting program of any kind, just a love for adventure, going places, seeing rare sights, and having fun.
Boy Scouts begin at 11 years old, in the 6th grade and up. Boy Scouts can sign up in the spring
of their fifth grade year to attend summer camp before entering the sixth grade. They meet at 7:00pm on
Thursday nights when Lake County Schools are in session. Transfers from another Troop are $1.00. For

UGANDAN MISSION
Since August 2006, Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Clermont Florida has worked on a
number of charitable projects in Uganda.
Seven shallow water wells have been constructed in seven different villages giving many more
people access to fresh and clean water. It costs approximately $4,000 to construct a water well and attach
a hand pump. Many more communities still have need for clean water. You can consider having a shallow
water well constructed for people in Uganda in your name or in that of your family or loved one. It is like
giving life. Water is life!
Our Lady of the Sick, Kambaala Health Unit III, has now been expanded with the addition of the
Mothers and Women’s Wing. In this new building, there is a large delivery room, an operating theatre, a
recovery room, a general ward that can hold up 10 beds, and an assembly room for workshops, talks and
seminars. When we have all the tools and equipment in place, this facility will help us to take better care
of all women, mothers, and children. There is still need for a power generator, theatre and surgical tools,
and beds and side-bed equipment. An ambulance would be so important to have!
As a lecturer and a member of the formation staff at St. Mbaaga’s Major Seminary, Ggaba, I
speak for the vocations to the priesthood in the Church. We are still blessed in Uganda with so many
young men who want to become priests. The seminary where I teach in Uganda has produced over 100
priests and two bishops since 1983. Some of these young men that have become priests have been
sponsored by individuals and families at Blessed Sacrament Church. It costs $400 to help sponsor a
seminarian for a year. It takes 8 years for one to make it to the priesthood through study and formation.
Sponsoring a seminarian to become a priest is an act of helping in the Lord’s vineyard where the harvest
is abundant but laborers are few.
St. Kizito Grade (Primary) School, across from Kambaala Health Unit, has only 8 classrooms for
over 700 children from grade one to grade seven. These classrooms are overcrowded with not enough
desks and seats for everyone. Some students sit on the dirt floor. We need to build more classrooms and
provide
chairs
and
desks.
Education is vital to transform the
life of the many children in
Kambaala. We hope we can do it in
Kambaala with a little more help. It
costs approximately $12,000 to
build and furnish a classroom.

MASS REMEMBRANCES
Daily Mass Remembrances are available through the parish office for a donation of $15.00.
According to Canon Law, only one deceased person may be listed for each mass. If you have a specific to
request, contact the office as soon as possible. Daily masses can be requested once a month for an
individual and weekend or Holy Day masses can be requested once every two months.
The Holy Sacrifice of the Memorial Mass Association is celebrated each Wednesday at 8:30am
for the repose of the souls of all its members for a one-year period. A donation of $25.00 is suggested and
the individuals name will appear in our Day Chapel amongst all others for whom the Mass is offered.

PARKING
Blessed Sacrament parishioners have been given permission to park in the grassy lot next to the
Rusty Fox Restaurant across 12th Street. Please DO NOT park in the restaurants’ paved parking lot.
There is to be no parking in the circle in front of the church or on the parking entrance road.
Emergency vehicles must be able to get to the church parking circle. Illegally parked vehicles will be
ticketed. The speed limit in the parking lot is 5 mph for the safety of all our parishioners, especially
children and elderly. Do not park in the Exceletech property across the street. Cars parked there will be
towed at owner’s expense.

THE HISTORY OF BLESSED SACRAMENT CATHOLIC CHURCH
As early as 1910, Catholic families gathered at various homes in Minneola and Father Fox
traveled from Orlando to Minneola, a day's journey, to celebrate Mass in the homes of the Lynch,
DyFrene and Frisz families. A temporary altar was set up in the various homes and when the service was
complete, breakfast was served.
For the next several years, Wilfred and Marie Frisz remained in the Clermont area and played a
major role in the development of what was to become Blessed Sacrament Church. The Frisz family
purchased a small bus and provided transportation to local Catholic families who wished to travel to
Eustis or Fruitland Park for Sunday Mass.
Obviously a more permanent place of worship was needed and Mr. Charles Pool donated four
lots on Lake Avenue in Clermont. Finally, in 1933, a mission church was constructed on this site. With
the completion of a small, wooden frame church, fifty Catholic families could now have a more
permanent house of worship. The first Mass was offered on Christmas Day, 1933.
The year 1961 brought great changes to the Catholic community in Clermont. Our “Mission”
was elevated to the status of a “Parish” and the Reverend Hugh Keane was assigned as our first Pastor.
The following year, Fr. Keane began a fund raising campaign to build a new church on the Twelfth Street
property which had been purchased by the Reverend Joseph Daly in 1956. In 1963, a new church was
blessed on Twelfth Street. This second Church building is now known as Saint John Bosco Hall.
In 1969, the Reverend Fabian Gimeno became the second Pastor and assumed the
responsibilities of eliminating a large debt, dating back to 1963. When the debt was paid, the interior of
the Twelfth Street Church was renovated, seating capacity was doubled, and new pews and stained-glass
windows were added. Fr. Fabian also oversaw the construction of the rectory, the parish hall, the
educational buildings and the church towers with the carillon. These buildings are still in use today, many
for the same purpose. The rectory is now the parish offices.
Originally a part of the Diocese of Saint Augustine, on June 18, 1968, Pope Paul VI formed the
Diocese of Orlando and Blessed Sacrament parish became a part of the Diocese of Orlando under the
Most Reverend William Borders, first Bishop of Orlando and later Archbishop of Baltimore. Archbishop
Borders was succeeded by the Most Reverend Thomas Grady, the second Bishop of Orlando in 1974.
In 1982, the Reverend Jose Mena became third Pastor of Blessed Sacrament. In the 1980s, the
church community was growing rapidly, and Fr. Mena realized the eventual need for yet a new and larger
church. He began putting away funds for this purpose. Fr. Mena retired in 1994, and the Very Reverend
Paige Blakely was appointed as parochial administrator until the Most Reverend Norbert Dorsey, third
Bishop of Orlando, appointed the Reverend Andrew Wawrzycki as our fourth Pastor. Fr. Andy continued
planning for a new and larger church.
With the approval of the Diocesan Finance and Building Communities and the completion of a
successful parish fund drive, construction on the present church began in 2000. With Fr. Andy's
retirement in 2001, Bishop Dorsey appointed the Reverend Christopher Hoffmann as fifth Pastor in
August of that year. On December 7, 2001, Fr. Chris celebrated the first Mass in the new church on the
Vigil of the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception. The dream of thousands of people had finally been
realized.
Following Fr. Chris' transfer, the Reverend Mark Wegg was appointed as the sixth Pastor in
November 2003. Fr. Mark was assisted by Father Tito Rojas as the first “associate pastor” of the parish.
Upon Father Tito’s departure, additional associates were appointed and the parish welcomed Fathers
Cromwell Cabrisos and Raul Valdez. Growth was so great that in 2007, the parish community of Saint
Faustina was broken off from the southern end of Blessed Sacrament parish in the area known as “4

Corners” with the Reverend Stephen Phillips appointed as its first and founding Pastor.
In January 2008, the Very Reverend Robert Webster was appointed as the seventh Pastor of
Blessed Sacrament. Upon arrival, Fr. Bob was tasked with the physical construction of the Mission
Church of Santo Toribio Romo in Mascotte which would serve the needs of the Catholic Community to
the west of the Parish as well as the Diocesan-wide Alive in Christ Campaign to insure the future growth
of the parish and diocese.
The first Mass celebrated in the Mission of Santo Toribio Romo occurred on Christmas Eve,
2008, 47 years to the day of which Blessed Sacrament became a Mission parish! This building was
blessed by the Most Reverend Thomas Wenski, fourth Bishop of Orlando, on February 15, 2009. The
Mission presently serves the needs of the migrant Mexican Community and other Hispanic groups, and
will soon expand to include Mass in English to touch the lives of many un-churched in that part of the
parish.
On July 13, 2009, Fr. Bob blessed the new facility for “Outward Sign,” a parish outreach to the
poor and needy located on Citrus Tower Blvd. This facility houses a parish outreach, The Best Little
Thrift Shop in Town, and offices of many helping agencies. The Knights of Columbus operate a Food
Pantry from this location as well.
In June of 2010, Father Raul departed the parish to assume responsibilities at San Jose Mission in
Barberville and Saint Peter Church in DeLand. Father Augusto Cadavid came to Blessed Sacrament in
September 2011 as associate pastor. In the interim time, Father Jesus Tovar served briefly in the parish
community.
The diocesan and parish-wide “Alive in Christ” Campaign, which began in 2009, enabled the
parish to purchase an apartment complex on 12th Street directly across from the parish campus. The
purchase of this property was made in June of 2011 and work is anticipated to begin on the transformation
of the two buildings in January of 2012 into a Youth Center and a Ministries Building. “Building
Breaking” ceremonies, to be presided over by the Most Reverend John Noonan, Fifth Bishop of Orlando,
are to take place on Saturday, January 14, 2012 following a Mass of Thanksgiving to begin our Jubilee
Year celebrating our 50 years as a parish family.
After a wonderful family-centered jubilee year which included activities which draw us back 50
years to the 1960s, the completion of the Youth Center and the Adult Ministries building became the
priority. The youth of the parish were able to occupy their new building at Christmas, 2012. The Adult
Ministries Building is slated for occupancy in January 2013.
“The Catholic Neighborhood Associations,” groupings of Catholics who live in proximity to
each other, has become a goal of the “Year of faith” proclaimed by Pope Benedict XVI for the calendar
year 2013. These small Catholic communities, spread now into 14 geographical areas of the parish,
gather monthly for prayer, fellowship and communal support.

In 1870, the Diocese of St. Augustine was erected with Bishop Verot the first Bishop in this only
Diocese in Florida.
In 1958, the southern half of the state was erected as the Diocese of Miami. The Diocese of
Orlando was established on June 18, 1968 and consisted of fifty parishes and served 128,000 Catholics.
Today it includes 73 parishes, 10 missions, and 37 schools spread over the nine counties of Orange,
Osceola, Seminole, Marion, Lake, Volusia, Brevard, Polk, and Sumter.
Orlando’s first bishop was William D. Borders who was installed on June 14, 1968. Bishop
Border’s achievements included establishing parish councils, parish education boards, participation of the
laity as extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist, a Sisters’ Council, a migrant ministry apostolate staffed
by full-time personnel, and a campus ministry program.
Succeeding Bishop Borders was Bishop Thomas J. Grady, installed on December 16, 1974. He
established eighteen new parishes, a tourism ministry, San Pedro Center -- a centrally-located spiritual life
center, a sister diocese in the Dominican Republic; and, he encouraged the greater participation of women
in the work of the Church. The third Bishop of Orlando, Norbert M. Dorsey, was installed on May 25,
1990. Under Bishop Dorsey’s leadership, the diocese continued to add parishes and schools, as well as
expand the ministry to the growing Hispanic community through establishing Radio Paz and health clinics
for migrant and farm workers. Bishop Dorsey and Bishop Grady worked together on two projects: the
establishment of Mary, Queen of the Universe Shrine, a church built in the midst of tourism, for visitors
to attend Mass and pray; and, Bishop Grady Villas, a residential community for adults whose primary
diagnosis is mental retardation.
The Most Reverend Thomas G. Wenski became the Fourth Bishop of the Diocese of Orlando on
November 13, 2004 after serving as the Coadjutor to Bishop Dorsey. Bishop Wenski, a native Floridian
from Lake Worth in the Archdiocese of Miami brought to the diocese a unique (and sometime
controversial) record of political and economic activism on behalf of immigrants and the poor. He is an
avid writer portraying the struggles of immigrants and migrant workers and has been published in both
Catholic and secular publications. On June 1, 2010 he was installed as the Fourth Archbishop of Miami.
On October 23, 2010, Pope Benedict XVI appointed the Most Reverend John Noonan as the
Fifth Bishop of Orlando. Bishop Noonan was installed on December 16, 2010 at the Basilica of the
National Shrine of Mary Queen of the Universe in Orlando, the 36th anniversary of the Installation of
Bishop Grady. Bishop Noonan, a native of Ireland, had previously been Auxiliary Bishop of Miami and
Rector of Saint John Vianney Seminary in Miami.
