We welcome all to join us in being like Jesus Christ to our world.
Damos la bienvenida a todos a unirse a nosotros en ser como Jesucristo a nuestro mundo.
Twenty Seventh Sunday in Ordinary Time
October 7, 2012
WELCOME THE YEAR OF FAITH!
The fervent prayer of Jesus’s first followers rings out
still today: “Lord, increase our faith!” (Luke 17:5).
We can be grateful, then, that Pope Benedict XVI has
called the Church around the world to celebrate a
special Year of Faith beginning this Thursday, Oct.
11, 2012. This date is also the 50th anniversary of
the opening of the Second Vatican Council and the
20th anniversary of the publication of the Catechism
of the Catholic Church — two events of great
importance to our faith in recent times. The Year of
Faith will end on the Solemnity of Christ the King on
November 24, 2013.
All parishes and other Catholic communities are
urged to take this year as an opportunity to help
Catholics deepen their faith and share it with others.
The Holy Father tells us in the Apostolic Letter that
announced the year: “We must rediscover a taste for
feeding ourselves on the word of God, faithfully
handed down by the Church, and on the bread of life,
offered as sustenance for his disciples” (Porta Fidei,
October 11, 2011).
Archbishop Wilton Gregory has declared the Year of
Faith to be a Marian year for the Archdiocese of
Atlanta as well, with the theme Faith Personified:
Our Blessed Mother.
At St. Brendan’s, the Year of Faith will begin with a
special bilingual Opening Mass this Thursday
evening, Oct. 11, at 6 p.m. Afterward in the Narthex,
a resource table will be available with great spiritual
reading guaranteed to increase your faith. We’ll have
books for sale, along with free prayer cards and
pamphlets on a number of faith-related topics.
Our parish is also offering a number of Adult Faith
Formation programs and events that will help you
grow in faith during this momentous year. Look for
details here in the parish bulletin, on our parish
website, in our parish e-newsletter, The Focus, and in
flyers in the church Narthex literature rack.

Walking With Purpose: Scripture Study For Women
(Contact: Christine Welsko, [email protected] or 770-753-0429)
Are you interested in getting together with other women to explore your faith?
You don’t have much Scripture knowledge, but you’d like to see how the
Scriptures apply to your everyday life? Walking With Purpose (WWP) is a
weekly reflection that aims to bring women to a deeper personal
relationship with Christ. Personal study and small group discussions help us
link everyday challenges and struggles to solutions found in the teachings of
Christ and the Church. Join us Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Spiritual
Life Center. First meeting was Oct. 2, but a few spaces remain. For more
information, call Christine Welsko; registration forms are in the Narthex
literature rack.

second Friday of the month, we’ll have a time of fellowship, followed by praying
the Rosary together. Then we’ll study the Gospel reading for the following
Sunday, discussing how we can apply it to family life. All young married couples
are invited to join us!

For the first time in over three years
the pantry is extremely low on
food. Over the summer months we
served a larger number of families
than usual. The pantry also
resumed weekly distribution to the

of family visits for September was
313. Not all items are in low
supply. Please check the list of
needed items when you shop for the
pantry. Shop the BO/GO sales at
Publix and Kroger. Aldi has best
prices on: evaporated milk, canned
fruit, tuna and cereal. Walmart is
best for individual packets of
powdered milk and Maseca. Dollar
Tree is the best place for jelly, juice

sauce, canned spaghetti o's, ravioli.

Leaving your retirement plan to the parish:
Many people would like to help the parish with
a cash gift but are not sure what they are
going to need when they retire.
So a very
simple way to make a gift to the parish is to
make the parish one of the beneficiaries of
your
IRA,
401K,
or
other
retirement
plan.
Simply call the organization that
manages your plan and ask for a change of
beneficiary form.
You can leave a dollar
amount or a percent of the remainder of your
plan. This will go directly to the parish to
help them for the future. For more ways to
help your parish with a future gift please
