Palm Sunday of the Passion of the Lord
Misericordiae Vultus: The Face of Mercy is Pope Francis’
official decree announcing this Jubilee Year of Mercy. But
Francis had already declared that Jesus “has shown the face
of God’s mercy” back in 2013 on his first Palm Sunday as
pope. Francis described Luke’s account of Jesus’ entrance
into Jerusalem: “Crowds, celebrating, praise, blessing, peace:
joy fills the air. Jesus has awakened great hopes, especially in
the hearts of the simple, the humble, the poor, the forgotten,
those who do not matter in the eyes of the world. He understands human sufferings . . . has bent down to heal body and
soul.” Entering Jerusalem, Jesus looks at all of us with love,
Francis continued, at our sicknesses and sins. “A beautiful
scene, full of light—the light of the love of Jesus” (Pope
Francis, Palm Sunday homily, March 24, 2013). May this
Jubilee Year’s Holy Week and Triduum make us Jesus’ own
light-bearers and love-givers to all who long to see the Face
of Mercy.

If you have used personalized Sunday envelopes for
your offerings at Mass, your box is available for
pickup in the Rectory Monday through Friday from
9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Thank you to those who
have already done this.
Requesting Sunday envelopes:
Receiving the personalized envelopes is not automatic, nor is it
mandatory. You have to request it, even if you are a registered
parishioner.
Requesting is easy to do. Please go to the Rectory and fill out a one
-page form. You will be given a box of regular Sunday
envelopes. Your information will be added to next year’s list, and
you will receive your personalized envelopes the following year.
Envelopes are ordered in September for the following year.

“PADRE EN TUS MANOS ENCOMIENDO MI ESPIRITU…”
Nuestro camino cuaresmal está llegando a su fin y damos inicio a la Semana Mayor con el Domingo de la
Pasión, popularmente conocido como Domingo de Ramos. Las palmas que hemos traído para bendecir significan el triunfo y
el martirio del Señor y encierran el misterio de la cruz y la gloria, de la muerte y la resurrección del Señor.
Las palmas no son amuletos para la buena suerte, tampoco son para espantar demonios o malos espíritus. Pero si nos
recordarán durante el presente año nuestra aclamación a Cristo en su entrada a Jerusalén. Es por eso que muchos tenemos la
costumbre de hacer con estos ramos una cruz y ponerla detrás de la puerta.
Esta celebración está marcada por una doble dimensión: gozo-tristeza; muerte-vida; crucifixión-resurrección. En la oración
colecta decimos: “Dios todopoderoso y eterno, que has querido entregarnos como ejemplo de humildad a Cristo, nuestro
salvador, hecho hombre y clavado en una cruz, concédenos vivir según las enseñanzas de su pasión, para participar con él,
un día, de su gloriosa resurrección.
Las lecturas de este domingo nos ayudan a profundizar en este misterio terrible y dichoso.
La primera lectura, es una descripción del Siervo sufriente: “Ofrecí mi espalda a los que me
golpeaban, mis mejillas a quienes me tiraban la barba, y no oculté mi rostro ante las injurias” (Is
50, 6).
En la segunda lectura nos ayuda a entender el significado de lo que hemos pedido en la oración:
Imitar a Jesús en su entrega generosa hasta la cruz. El Hijo de Dios al encarnarse en el seno
purísimo de la Virgen ha querido identificarse con el más humilde, el más sufrido, el más
despreciado.
Al leer el relato de la pasión de Jesús, nos encontramos con momentos realmente difíciles: la
soledad, la angustia, la traición y el abandono de los amigos, el desprecio y el odio, la corrupción
de las instituciones de justicia, la envidia, la soberbia. Pero también encontramos, la fidelidad, el
amor, la paciencia, el perdón, la compasión y la fidelidad de algunos pocos amigos del Señor. En
estas escenas de la pasión: ¿Con cuál de los personajes te identificas más?
Les invitamos a vivir estos días de la Semana Mayor con mucha fe.
Hagan lo posible por venir a la misa del Jueves Santo, o al menos en algún momento de la noche,
venir y acompañar a Jesús Sacramentado. Ese día el templo se adornará de blanco porque estaremos
conmemorando la institución de la Eucaristía, el sacerdocio y el mandamiento del amor.
Intenta participar el Viernes Santo de los actos litúrgicos de la Pasión de Señor. Ese día el templo se
viste de rojo porque contemplamos a Jesús el modelo de los mártires. Este es el único día del año en no
se celebra la Santa misa porque Cristo el Sumo Sacerdote ha dado su vida por nosotros. Ojalá no
dejemos a Jesús enterrado en su tumba.
El Sábado Santo (Dejó de llamarse Sábado de Gloria hace más de 50 años ) la Iglesia ora con la
Virgen Dolorosa en espera de la resurrección. Así, en la noche, celebraremos la Solemne Vigilia
Pascual. Si te dices católico y nunca has participado de esta celebración ¿Qué estas esperando? No
dejes pasar este año sin gozarte con el Señor Resucitado.
El próximo domingo estaremos celebrando a Cristo Resucitado que ha vencido sobre el pecado y la
muerte. Como ven, hay muchas cosas importante y bellas de nuestra fe católica que muchas veces por desidia no
participamos o no las conocemos. Entremos en la Semana Mayor con mucha devoción y fe.

AÑO JUBILAR DE LA MISERICORDIA

Domingo de Ramos “de la Pasión del Señor”
Misericordiae Vultus: El rosto de la Misericordia es el
documento oficial (en este caso una Bula papal) anunciando
este Año Jubilar de la Misericordia. Sin embargo, el
Domingo de Ramos de 2013, el Papa Francisco había
anunciado que “Jesús ha mostrado el rostro de la
misericordia de Dios”. El Papa Francisco describe la historia
del Evangelio de Lucas donde Jesús entra en Jerusalén así:
“Gentío, fiesta, alabanza, bendición, paz. Se respira un clima
de alegría. Jesús ha despertado en el corazón tantas
esperanzas, sobre todo entre la gente humilde, simple, pobre,
olvidada, esa que no cuenta a los ojos del mundo. Él ha
sabido comprender las miserias humanas, ha mostrado el
rostro de misericordia de Dios y se ha inclinado para curar el
cuerpo y el alma”. El Papa Francisco sigue diciendo que
Jesús al entrar a Jerusalén mira a todos con amor en nuestras
debilidades y pecados. “Es una bella escena, llena de luz – la
luz del amor de Jesús, de su corazón –, de alegría, de
fiesta” (Papa Francisco, homilía del Domingo de Ramos, 24
de marzo de 2013). ¡Qué la Semana Santa y Triduo Pascual
de este Año Jubilar de la Misericordia nos hagan portadores
de la luz de Jesús y mensajeros de amor a todos los que
anhelan ver El rostro de la Misericordia!

NOTICIAS DE LA ESCUELA DE SAN JUAN
La Escuela Católica de San Juan, está
aceptando aplicaciones para el año escolar
2016/2017. Visite nuestra escuela y observe la
calidad de enseñanza que es posible para sus

Beato Oscar Arnulfo Romero, 24 de marzo
Martirologio Romano: En San Salvador, República de El Salvador, Beato Oscar Romero,
Arzobispo y defensor de los pobres, asesinado por odio a la fe († 1980).
Fecha de beatificación: 23 de mayo de 2015, durante el pontificado
de S.S. Francisco
Breve Biografía
El domingo 23 de marzo de 1980 Mons. Romero pronunció su última homilía, la cual fue considerada por algunos como su sentencia
de muerte debido a la dureza de su denuncia: "en nombre de Dios y de este pueblo sufrido... les
pido, les ruego, les ordeno en nombre de Dios, CESE LA REPRESION".
El 24 de marzo de 1980 Monseñor Oscar Arnulfo Romero Galdámez fue asesinado de un certero disparo, aproximadamente
a las 6:25 p.m. mientras oficiaba la Eucaristía en la Capilla del Hospital La Divina Providencia, exactamente al momento de
preparar las ofrendas para la consagración.
Fue enterrado el 30 de marzo y sus funerales fueron una manifestación popular
de compañía, sus queridos campesinos, las viejecitas de los cantones, los obreros de la ciudad, algunas familias adineradas que también lo querían, estaban
frente a la catedral para darle el último adiós, prometiéndole que nunca lo iban
a olvidar.
Raramente el pueblo se reúne para darle el adiós a alguien, pero él era su padre, quien los cuidaba, quien los quería, todos querían verlo por última vez. Su
fiesta litúrgica es el 24 de marzo.
