A worthwhile excursion is a trip to Moya and the trip to the special nature reserve Los Tilos de Moya. 8 viva Pocket ENGLISH n° 7 • 15. 10. 2015 About thirty kilometers west of Las Palmas is the homonymous capital of Moya. You drive along the curvy, steadily uphill road GC75. The hospitable residents welcome all their guests. The birthplace of the great Canary chroniclers (1884 - 1921) was converted into a museum. It shows pictoresque how life at the time of the turn of the century high society. You can see those days a lot of inter10 esting details, such. As furniture, accessories, books, photographs, typewriter and a promotional catalog anno. The library also paintings by important representatives of the Canarian Modernism can be seen. If you should take a rest now we would recommend to taste the regional specialty Bizcochas Lustrados. viva Pocket ENGLISH n° 7 • 15. 10. 2015 The Special Nature Reserve Los Tilos de Moya is one of the most beautyful on the island and is located in the Parque Rural de Doramas. The reason for the opulent vegetation is the mild climate, the abundance of water and a natural phenomenon. The trade winds from the northeast at a rate of an average of 22 km/h provide the area throughout the year with moisture or rain. About two kilometers southwards from the village of Moya you reach a sign Barranco de Laurel where you turn left and reach the parking area Los Tilos de Moya after about 500 meters. 11 naturE RESERVE Moya, a road leads along the ravines and after about two kilometers you reach the sign "Barranco de Laurel". From here you take a left and still leaves about 500 meters up to a parking lot. When leaving the car you will be overwhelmed from the fresh clean air and the lush green in all imaginable shades. A sign Ruta dirección Moya shows you EXCURSION: MOYA the start for the approximately 1.8 kilometer trail. Only the first part is to cope over stone stairs and then an almost level moves through the undergrowth, past bushes, shrubs and shade trees. It can be seen almost no square meter of ground, so close up plant lined up to plant. The laurels can reach a height of up to twenty meters. The plant can climb up to three meters, it is holding a rubbery latex fluid. Nevertheless the language barrier might lead to problems from time to time in the public services such as the Centro de Salud. For their services we recommend to take an interpreter with you. You can use their servie free of charge if there exists a treaty between the social insurance companies of both countries. You must show your social insurance card at the reception desk. Private doctors usually speak english too, especially in the tourist areas. You may use their services any time. If it is a private doctor who has an agreement with your insurance company, you do not have to pay or you get a refund when you return home. Ask for the invoice. We recommend that you ask the doctor before treatment what is included in what you must pay. 20 DRUGSTORES Drugstores (Farmacias) you will identify by the green cross. When the lights of that cross are blinking the pharmacy is open.
