September 07, 2014 Liturgy and Worship Liturgia y el Culto Instead of being just a church that welcomes and receives by keeping the doors open, let us try also to be a church that finds new roads, that is able to step outside itself and go to those who do not attend Mass, to those who have quit or are indifferent. Pope Francis Remembering September 11th “We are a people who remember. We remember the interruptions of the news reports, the faces of families and New York City rescue workers, the faith of communities at prayer. Like other historical tragedies, the memories of this day will stay with us forever. As Catholics, our remembering helps shape who we become in the future. Today, and as the months and years continue to unfold, we honor our memories and allow them to mold us into people of “hope”. PRAYER FOR GRANDPARENTS Lord Jesus, you were born of the Virgin Mary, the daughter of Saints Joachim and Anne. Look with love on grandparents the world over. Protect them! They are a source of enrichment for families, for the Church and for all of society. Support them! As they grow older, may they continue to be for their families’ strong pillars of Gospel faith, guardian of noble domestic ideals, living treasuries of sound religious traditions. Make them teachers of wisdom and courage that they may pass on to future generations the fruits of their mature human and spiritual experience. Lord Jesus, help families and society to value the presence and roles of grandparents. May they never be ignored or excluded, but always encounter respect and love. Help them to live serenely and to feel welcomed in all the years of life which you give them. Mary, Mother of all the living, keep grandparents constantly in your care, accompany them on their earthly pilgrimage, and by your prayers, grant that all families may one day be reunited in our heavenly homeland, where you await all humanity for the great embrace of live without end. Amen! The Church candle burns in loving memory of John O’Neill at the request of his family. New Session Starting It has been said that we are truly divorced only when we finally let go of our marriage, mourn our loss, and adjust ourselves to our new life. At St. Paul, our Divorce Care Group exists to help one another do just that. This is a Catholic based peer-ministry support group designed to help guide men and women through the process of divorce. The program explores the stress, anger, blame and guilt of divorce with the goal of leading participants toward ultimate forgiveness, happiness and growth. Plans are to begin a new Monday evening group in early October. Please contact Heidi if you are interested in participating: [email protected] or 281.333.3891. Does your Catechism Still Fit? Chances are the catechism you studied when you prepared for your confirmation was meant to meet the faith needs of a young teenager. But you’ve grown a lot since then and have a whole lifetime of adult experiences that need integration and understanding. Grow in your faith by participating in this interesting, interactive study that takes place the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month. Sessions begin Tuesday, September 9, at 7:30 PM in Room 10. They are led by author, teacher, and theologian Julie Dienno-Demarest. Participants should have a copy of the catechism for adults and a Bible. Prayer Shawls Available Thanks to the dedication of a generous and prayerful group of parishioners, a supply of prayer shawls is available for loved ones in your life who are struggling with illness, isolation, grief, aging, or other issues.
