Dear ECC Families,
I am so proud of our school and our calm response to last Friday’s fire across the street. What a
great relief that all our community’s children remained safe and we were able to continue our
day of instruction without interruption. I appreciate your hard work finding a route to get to
the ECC and your patience in returning at the end of the day for pick-up. Our good
communication with the Elmwood Park Police and Fire Department was critical for sharing
important updates. If you did not receive the automatic phone calls, please call or stop by our
office to make sure we have your accurate and up to date information.
A big “Thank You” goes out to the wonderful Elmwood Park Librarians for visiting us on Monday
for a Valentine’s Storytime. Our next assembly will be held on Friday, March 20th. Our ECC PTO
will sponsor Kevin Kelly’s Magic Show. Please be on the lookout next week for information
from the PTO on the Fannie May candy sale. On Thursday, February 19th, the PTO will hold
their monthly meeting from 11 to noon in the ECC all purpose room.
Please plan on coming out on Wednesday, February 25th from 6 to 7 pm for the ECC’s annual
Dr. Seuss Night! A great variety or stories, games and activities are planned for a fun family
evening!
The ECC is hosting Preschool Screening on Monday and Tuesday, March 2nd and 3rd. Any child
who lives in Elmwood Park and will be either 3 or 4 years old on or before September 1st, 2015,
may register for a half hour preschool screening appointment. Each child will be evaluated in
the areas of language and cognitive development and motor skills. A vision and hearing
screening are also included. To book your appointment, call 708-670-0836 between February
17th and February 20th, from 8:30 to 11 am.
Elmwood Park Schools will celebrate our annual “Night of Culture” on Thursday evening, March
5th, from 5:30 to 8 pm at Elmwood Park High School. The evening with begin with student
performances in the auditorium followed by professional performances by Tango 21, Mariachi
Mexicanisimo, and Bobek Polish Highlander Band. Student projects will be on display in the
high school corridors, and a pot-luck dinner will take place from 7 to 8 pm in the
cafeteria. Please bring a food item to share and wear your ethnic costume! We look forward to
a great event.
Our Teacher Star of the Week is Mrs. Clarivel Sahagun Velasco. Ms. Sahagún was born in
Chicago and is proud of her family’s Mexican culture and Spanish language. Mrs. Sahagun
defines herself as a true Mestiza. Her maternal grandmother is from Oaxaca, Mexico and
speaks Mixtec and Spanish and she has French roots on her paternal side. Her last name comes
from the Arabic, “Sajawi” but was converted into Spanish as “Sahagun”. Ms. Sahagun enjoys
passing on her cultural beliefs, traditions and language to her two children, Yalitzi and Diego.
Our Kindergarten Stars of the Week are – Akan Rodriguez, DiAngelo Benavidez, Jaidyn Velez,
Anthony Ramirez, Emerson Kinnally and Bryan Ramos.
Please remember that there is no school Friday, February 13th and Monday, February 16th.
Estimadas Familias del Centro ECC,
Estoy tan orgullosa de nuestra escuela y la respuesta calmada al incendio que
hubo el viernes en el local de enfrente. Es un gran alivio para nuestra
comunidad el saber que todos nuestros niños estuvieron a salvo y pudimos continuar nuestro día de
instrucción sin interrupción. Apreciamos grandemente su duro trabajo en encontrar una ruta para llegar
al Centro ECC y su paciencia en regresar al final del día para recoger a sus niños. El que mantuviéramos
una buena comunicación con el Departamento de la Policía y el Departamento de Bomberos de
Elmwood Park, fue extremadamente importante para poder intercambiar información sobre los últimos
acontecimientos. Si usted no recibió la llamada automática, por favor llámenos o venga la oficina para
asegurarse de que tenemos su número de teléfono e información más corriente.
Nuestro gran agradecimiento hacia nuestros maravillosos Bibliotecarios de Elmwood Park por
visitarnos el lunes para leernos algunas historias del Día de Valentín. Nuestra próxima asamblea se
estará llevando a cabo el viernes 20 de marzo. Nuestro PTO del Centro ECC estará auspiciando el show
del mago Kevin Kelly. Por favor este al pendiente para la información que la PTO estará enviando sobre
la venta de Dulces de Fannie May. El jueves 20 de febrero la PTO estará llevando a cabo su reunión
mensual de 11 de la tarde en el Salón Multipropósito ECC.
¡Por favor haga planes para acompañarnos el miércoles 25 de febrero de 6 a 7 pm para la Noche Anual
del Dr. Seuss en el Centro ECC! Una gran variedad de historias, juegos y actividades, están programadas
para tener una tarde de diversión familiar!
El Centro ECC estará llevando a cabo las evaluaciones para entrar al Preescolar el lunes y martes, 2 y 3
de marzo. Todos niño/a que sea residente de Elmwood Park, y que tenga 3 o 4 años de edad en o antes
del 1 de septiembre del 2015, podrá registrarse para hacer la cita de la evaluación preescolar de media
hora. Cada niño será evaluado en la áreas de habilidad de lenguaje, desarrollo cognitivo y habilidades
motoras. Se incluirá un examen de audición y visión. Para hacer su sita por favor llame al número de

Las escuelas de Elmwood Park estarán celebrando la “Noche Anual de Cultura” el jueves en la tarde el 5
de marzo de 5:30 a 8 pm en la Escuela Superior de Elmwood Park. La tarde comenzara con las
presentaciones de los estudiantes en el auditorio seguido por una presentación profesional por el grupo
Tango 21, Mariachi Mexicanísimo y la Banda Bobek Polish Highlander. Los proyectos de los estudiantes
estarán en exhibición en los corredores de la Escuela Superior y una cena “pot-luck” tendrá lugar de 7 a
8 pm en la cafetería. ¡Por favor traiga un artículo de alimento para compartir y vístase con la ropa típica
de su país! Esperamos ansiosos ver un evento maravilloso.
Nuestra maestra Estrella de La Semana es la Señora Clarivel Sahagun Velasco. La Señora Sahagún nació
en Chicago y está orgullosa de su cultura familiar Mexicana y de su lenguaje español. La Señora
Sahagun se define ella misma como una verdadera mestiza. La abuela de ella es de Oaxaca, México y
habla Mixteco y español y tiene raíces francesas por parte de su padre. El apellido de ella viene del
arabe “Sajawi” pero se interpreta en español como “Sahagun”. La Señora Sahagun disfruta de pasar las
creencias de su cultura, sus tradiciones y su lenguaje a sus dos hijos Yalitzi y Diego. Nuestros Estudiantes
Estrella de la Semana de Kindergarten son – Akan Rodriguez, DiAngelo Benavidez, Jaidyn Velez, Anthony
Ramirez, Emerson Kinnally y Bryan Ramos.

Jestem bardzo dumna z naszej szkoly i naszej spokojnej reakcji na pozar, ktory wydarzyl sie w
ostatni piatek po drugiej stronie ulicy. Na szczescie wszystkie dzieci z naszej spolecznosci pozostaly
bezpieczne i mogly kontynuowac nauke w ECC bez zadnych przeszkod. Bardzo dziekuje za Panstwa
cierpliwosc i wyrozumialosc w czasie odbierania i przywozenia uczniow do szkoly. Dobra komunikacja z
policja i straza pozarna w Elmwood Park odegrala krytyczna role w przekazywaniu biezacych i waznych
informacji. Jesli w dniu pozaru nie otrzymali Panstwo automatycznej wiadomosci telefonicznej prosze
wstapic do naszego biura w ECC i upewnic sie, ze Panstwa informacje w naszym systemie sa prawidlowe
i aktualne.
Wielkie podziekowania przesylany w strone pracownikow biblioteki publicznej Elmwood Park,
ktorzy odwiedzili nas w poniedzialek i zaprezentowali ksiazeczki poswiecone tematyce Walentynek.
