TODAY…
JOIN in the worldwide mission of Jesus!
JOIN the Propagation of the Faith!
As disciples of Jesus, baptized into the Church
and strengthened by the Holy Spirit, we are
called to draw others to Christ: others in our
family, in our neighborhoods; others even "to
the ends of the earth." More than 2,000 years
after the birth of Jesus, some two-thirds of our
human family do not yet know Him in faith as
we do.
Through the Propagation of the Faith, we can
reach those at work at "the ends of the earth"
as we help to support the Church's evangelizing
work in more than 1,150 mission dioceses
worldwide. We are needed to offer daily prayer
and regular financial help as well.

ELEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Dear Friends –
As summer begins and officially begins next weekend with the solstice and the celebration of Father’s
Day, allow me to wish you blessed travels, whether near or far.
I love our church! It’s really beautiful … original artwork of John La Farge, William Laurel Harris and so
many other talented others. And, you, of course, the truly original artwork of God. The Church is most beautiful
when it is filled with people of God! With this great beauty, practical concerns arise because of the building’s
age.
Construction on the Church was completed in 1884. The dedication mass was held on the Feast of the
Conversion of Paul on January 25, 1885. We completed the repair of the towers and the replacement of the entire
roof last year, which was a 4 year, nearly 5 million dollar project. The roof repair prevented new water from coming into the Church, but damage had already been done.
1. Peeling Paint. As the walls dry out, the paint is beginning to separate from the plaster. If you look up,
especially around the stained glass windows, you will see where paint has already fallen. You will also see where
the paint appears to be bubbling off the walls.
2. Plaster in the side aisle ceilings. You may have noticed that the area around the Altar of Mary in the
southwest corner of the Church is closed. Plaster has fallen from the ceiling. We are trying to assess the extent of
the damage before proposing a repair project.
3. Main Entrance Stairs. The stone steps have begun separating from one another. We have done as
much temporary repair as possible. The steps will have to be removed and reset.
These are some of the practical challenges for our parish. Other projects loom large in the future as well.
I am working with the Finance Council to address how we might fund these needed repairs. In the meantime, in your prayers ask Saint Joseph to pray for our house.
You can also help by insuring our parish receives the support needed for our operating expenses and ministries during the busy summer months. Use eGiving through Faith Direct!
You may enroll by visiting www.faithdirect.net. Our church code is NY539. Increased enrollment with
Faith Direct will help stabilize our parish finances during the coming summer months when many families are
away on vacation. Thank you for your continued support of our parish family with your time and talents as well as
treasure!
Peace,
Father Gil

ELEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
Teachers for Religious Education Needed for 2015-2016
Have you thought about being a catechist, but have never
given it a try? Would you like to join us in sharing your
Catholic faith with the children of St. Paul’s parish? Our
children’s entire ministry depends upon the creativity, energy and enthusiasm of many adults in the community. Are
you willing to commit yourself to be present with your students for classes from September to May? However, there is
some latitude for your personal schedule because you will be
sharing the teaching responsibility with another teacher for
the 30 Sunday’s sessions scheduled during the school year
from 11:00-12:30 PM. The heart of our program is the dedication of our catechists. Co-teachers will be needed in the
fall for the following classes: First pre-communion class
(1st & 2nd graders); Post-Communion class (3rd , 4th &
5th graders); Pre-Confirmation class (6th
&
7th graders).Training and ongoing support are provided with
opportunities for personal spiritual growth. If you feel serious about this calling and ministry, please contact me as
soon as possible. The interview process for catechist is going
on now. Other volunteers’ opportunities: Substitute teachers,
hall monitor, clerical help, and refreshment committee.
Please consider this important ministry to our youth. If you
have a serious interest, call Hernán Sánchez in the Religious
Education Office 212-265-3495, extension 341 or Email: [email protected]. It is certainly a
help for all of our children. We hope it will be a joy for you!

Me encanta nuestra iglesia!
Paz,
Padre Gil
