Foreword
Dear Colleagues:
The International Commission for Optics (ICO) has been successfully promoting the worldwide expansion of Optics and Photonics
for more than 65 years. In our ”society-of-societies” role, we operate at an interface between scientific, technological, educational or
even geographic and economic interests in a global world in constant change.
It is therefore essential that we adhere to our self-imposed mission of "contributing, on an international basis, to the progress of the
science of Optics and Photonics”, keeping in mind that the stronger
the ICO is, the faster and wider our discipline grows and spreads.
Therefore, it is crucial that the ICO Congress encompasses as many
aspects of Optics and Photonics as possible.
I consider that the following Program reflects the rich variety of
phenomena to whose study we dedicate our lives. In this respect,
the theme of the ICO-23 Congress ”Enlightening the Future” points
to the need of preparing future generations of scientists to take over
and explore fascinating new aspects of light and its applications.
Through the following pages, it will be possible to have a glimpse
of what we do and why we are so passionate about it. Welcome to
the ICO-23. Welcome to Optics.
