SEMINARIO DE JÓVENES INVESTIGADORES EN POLÍMEROS Antonio González Jiménez Instituto de Ciencia y Tecnología de Polímeros (ICTP-‐CSIC) Título: Effect of Fillers and Nano-‐Fillers on Shape-‐Memory Ionic Elastomers Autores: Antonio González-‐Jiménez, Pilar Bernal-‐Ortega, Juan L. Valentin Resumen: Shape-‐memory polymers can recover to its original shape from a deformed (temporary) shape after being exposed to external stimulus, e.g., heat, light, electric and magnetic field, or moisture. Despite shape memory effect (SME) of various polymers have been extensively explored, few of these materials have elastomeric behavior in both original and temporary shape in a wide range of temperatures. Ionic elastomers are thermoplastic polymers with excellent mechanical properties at room temperature due to the formation of ionic aggregates which act as cross-‐links and reinforcing points. However, they are dynamic structures and consequently their properties drops with temperature. In order to improve these properties at high temperature, we propose the design of new elastomeric networks based on the combination of covalent and ionic cross-‐links. These mixed rubber networks show enhanced properties at high temperature and shape memory behavior. This work focuses on two main objectives: i) studying the influence of the introduction of conductive fillers and nano-‐fillers (carbon black, graphene and multi-‐wall carbon nanotubes) in the network structure of these elastomeric network matrices and their shape memory properties and ii) developing new advanced applications based on ionic elastomers with improved thermal and electrical conductivity.
