Lorena Mancilla is passionate about working with English learners and their families.
At World Class Instructional Design and Assessment (WIDA), she is the lead
developer of resources for families. Lorena is currently working on her PhD at the
University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Dr. Filmore is a Professor Emerita at the University of California, Berkeley. In her
work, she has delved deeply into the question of why so many language minority
students have difficulty getting beyond the most basic levels of reading proficiency. She is a
strong advocate for emerging bilingual students, their families, and schools.

Dr. Baez has 45 years of experience vigorously involved in the equity and civil rights
of all families, especially in areas of education reform, immigration, health, policecommunity relations, diversity and civil rights. Dr. Tony Báez is a Wisconsin educator
and community activist with expertise in parent/community engagement and networking with
others in promoting bilingualism as an extension of learning for all students as well as national
policies and action tied to multilingual and multicultural education.

advocate for language learning needs at home and in school.
