Saint John the Evangelist
“Better to do something imperfectly than to do
nothing flawlessly!”
... “Rejoice in the Lord always!” is the theme of
this Third Sunday of Advent, traditionally called
Gaudete Sunday. Rose colored vestments may be
worn, and the third candle on the Advent Wreath
is rose colored, highlighting a joyful mood as we
continue our spiritual preparation for Christmas!
... Pope Francis inaugurated the Jubilee Year of
Mercy on Tuesday (8), the feast of the Immaculate
Conception. “This extraordinary year is a gift of
grace! To pass through this Holy Door means to
rediscover the infinite mercy of the Father who welcomes everyone and goes out personally to encounter each of them. It is He who seeks us! It is He who
comes to encounter us! This will be a year in which
we will grow even more convinced of God’s mercy!”
... Congratulations to our neighbor, Saint Thomas
More, Oceanside, and their Pastor, Father Mike
Ratajczak, formerly an Associate here at Saint John,
on the dedication of their new church building this
coming Wednesday (16). The door of their new
church has been designated as the ‘Holy Door of
Mercy’ for the North County! Make a trip to ‘pass
through’, during this Jubilee Year of Mercy!
... Religious women and men generally work long
past the age of 65 . For as long as they are physically able, they visit the sick, tutor children, and volunteer in parishes and among refugee populations.
There are 35,279 retired religious priests, brothers
and sisters relying on our support. Please give generously today to the special collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious! Share in the care!
... Our Knights of Columbus have great Christmas
Trees, of all sizes, for sale on our lower parking lot,
weekdays from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, Saturdays from
8:00am to 8:00pm, and Sundays from 10:00am to
8:00pm. All the proceeds go to charity.
... Our Saint John Advent Penance Service is this
Monday (14) at 7:00pm, and our Seniors Penance
Service on Thursday (17) at 11:00am. Be sure to
join us as we begin this Jubilee Year of Mercy.
... Penance Services this week also include Nativity,
Rancho Santa Fe, on Tuesday (15) at 7:00pm, Saint
James, Solana Beach, also on Tuesday (15) at
6:30pm, and Saint Elizabeth Seton, Carlsbad, on
Wednesday (16) at 7:00pm.
... Olivia Reynaga and our ‘Guadalupanos’ have
freshly-made tamales available for us after Sunday
morning Masses today (13), at the gazebo! Yes!
December 13, 2015
... Our Seniors gather for their monthly Luncheon
this Thursday (17) at 12:00pm, with great food,
good company and lively entertainment, preceded by
a Seniors Penance Service at 11:00am! Welcome!
... Our Saint John School children truly have the
Christmas spirit! Our 6th - 8th Grade Christmas
Program is this Tuesday (15) at 6:30pm. Enjoy!
... Our Saint John School children welcome us to
their Christmas Prayer Service this Friday (18) at
11:30am in the church.
... $19,198.00 was contributed last weekend (6)
with 348 families using parish envelopes. A further
$6,288.56 was contributed online, by 140 families!
... 79 families contributed a total of $2,597.00 to
our Building Fund.
... Each Christmas, Saint John parishioners seek to
assist needy families from our midst with baskets of
food and toys. Donations of food and toys are again
needed and most welcome. Collection boxes are at
the back of the church. We would appreciate all
contributions by this Monday (14).
... If you are aware of a family in need of assistance
this Christmas please complete a Basket Application Form on their behalf before Monday (14) at
the Parish Office.
... John Derrico, from our Saint Vincent de Paul Society, and his great team, plan to distribute Christmas Baskets to our needy families this week, with
the support and assistance of so many!
... Our church Christmas Flowers are a wonderful
way to remember and honor our loved ones, living
and deceased, over the entire Christmas season.
Special envelopes are available in the packets
mailed home, and at the back of the church.
... Matt Williamson, Adan Altamirano, and Franco
Aguilar did a great job in putting up our outdoor
Christmas lights and decorations, and in keeping
them alight and sparkling!
... Congratulations to our parents and their newly
baptized infants: Bethlehem Deken, Audriana Graciano-Punaro, Davey Marcial, Makayla Marcial,
Marie Morales, Michael Sanchez, Koa Scanlon, Hazel Valdovinos, Christopher Venegas, and Conor
Watson, and to Haley Johnson and Jack Johnson
who made a Profession of Faith. Family!
... Our great Catholic Men’s Fellowship meet this
Wednesday (16), at 7:00pm in the Hall.
... “The great gift of being a human being lies in
our freedom to continually right our wrongs, and
make new persons of ourselves!”

CELEBRA

Nuestra espera forma parte
a vivos y muertos.
