SUNDAY, AUGUST 28, 2016 TWENTY-SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME THE LAST DAYS OF SUMMER – ENJOY THEM This lovely summer season has been moving along happily for many of us, I am sure, with lots of beautiful weather and some good vacation time. As we come now to these final days of August, summer is suddenly rushing towards completion in the big Labor Day Weekend. The days are still warm. Daylight is getting shorter so we have to appreciate every moment of the evening daylight. We hope for just one more picnic. School, which defines so much of life for so many of our families, has moved into the front of our thoughts. Have those summer books been read yet? There are only a few days left.) Many of our college students are already off to school. We wish you well, especially you who will be away from home. Please keep in close touch at home and also stay in contact with our Youth Ministry office by e-mail. Send John Cammarata your e-mail address at college. Our youth website is: [email protected]. Stay in touch! All Saints Academy is open for business. Our principal, Judith Berg, has been meeting with faculty members, school parents and prospective new parents as well as some parishioners involved with and interested in the school. Mrs. Berg will be happy to meet with any parents thinking about All Saints Academy for your children. Please phone her at 973-334-4704 if you are interested for your family. Please pray for a very good school year. Visit All Saints website for a closer look: www.allsaints.org. Our Religious Education Director for our parish public school children, Mr. John Cammarata, has been meeting with new parents and he is still looking for more good parishioners willing to share our Catholic faith in our elementary school CCD and high school youth ministry programs. Kindly give John Cammarata a call at 973-335-9713 if you recognize that Jesus may want you to do this wonderful work with our children in His name. How about giving this a try? God will surely be with you and your parish will provide you with instruction to help you learn how to do this ministry well with our children and young people. Our RCIA process is ongoing. If you know any adults among your family and friends who may be interested in becoming a Catholic, please pray for them and speak to them with a gentle invitation. Please call Chris Leone at 908-528-0865 to speak about this. We invite parishioners who have not received Confirmation and/or Holy Communion to come forward and prepare for these sacraments in our RCIA. Again, just call the Rectory about this. Pray that Our Lord will send us people who will be helped in our RCIA to come closer to Jesus in their life journey of faith. Check out our parish website for more about our R.C.I.A. Please enjoy these remaining days of summer! Our parish is counting on you, on your prayers, your volunteer service of time and talent as well as your financial generosity to help make wonderful things happen for the Lord within our parish family in this coming year. Everything we do here always depends first on Our Lord Jesus, and it all depends on you and me as well. God Bless, Father Herb WORDS OF TITHING FROM THE PEWS: From the pastor: God has given me everything. He has given me the gift of His ordained priesthood. Help me give the best of everything back to Him. He will always take care of us. Thanks be to God. Words on tithing from the Pews: “It’s simple to tithe: you give back 10% of what you earn to the source of your spiritual life. You need to do it for the joy of giving. Our parish is being blessed this year with a young man, our parishioner, Elmer Nieto, who has been accepted by the Diocese as a seminarian to begin pursuing a call to become a priest for the Diocese of Paterson. Elmer will begin his academic studies and spiritual formation this September at Saint Andrew’s College Seminary a part of Seton Hall University in South Orange. Over the next several years he will be discerning and the diocese will also be evaluating whether God has called him to become a priest for our Diocese. As Elmer’s parish family, we promise to pray for him and with him so that God’s plan will become clearer and clearer during his seminary years. Elmer came to our community from his home country of Mexico when he was a teenager. He was diligent in learning English while attending Parsippany Hills High School. He has worked hard to earn his own living ever since he came to New Jersey. In recent year, he has been employed in his brother’s family business. For the past 8 years, he has been the Leader of Music at our regular Saturday evening 7:00 PM Spanish language liturgy. Elmer leads a music group which has played at many Catholic Church events and at cultural and family celebrations. We are proud of Elmer Nieto and pray that one day he will be, God willing, a priest of the Diocese of Paterson. Another young man from Mexico, Eduardo Maceda, who worshiped here in our parish for a while recently returned to Mexico where he has begun studying with the Conventual Franciscan Friars to discern whether God is calling him to be a priest. Please keep Eduardo Maceda in your prayers, too. Jesus calls us to pray that the Master of the Harvest - His Father and Our Father in Heaven – will send laborers into the harvest. We need priests, deacons, religious and lay ministers for the work of the Church. “Ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest.” Luke 10:2. Because Jesus is calling on us to pray specifically to His Father, the Harvest Master, I personally offer one Our Father every day asking Our Father in heaven to call young people living in our Diocese to become laborers for His harvest right here in the Paterson Diocese. Please resolve to pray one Our Father every day for vocations in our Diocese and in a special way please include Elmer Nieto and Eduardo Maceda in your daily vocation prayer. We are currently accepting new registrations for September 2016. All Saints Academy is a nationally certified STEM school of the Diocese of Paterson. Our school offers a comprehensive, multicurricular, rigorous academic program, centered on valuesbased education. A strong and loving Catholic identity permeates the environment. A spirit of faith, respect and joy are evident in our school. In addition to religious instruction, students model Christian ideals through cooperative activities, spiritual and liturgical celebrations, participation in Sacraments, and community service outreach. An active parent organization lends partnership and support to the school community. The Early Childhood Center offers classes for three and four year old children and has both full and half day options. The elementary and middle school classes include kindergarten through grade eight. Contact our school principal, Mrs. Judy Berg, at 973-334-4704, to schedule a tour and admission information. EVA’S GUESTS SAY “THANK YOU” During this Holy Year of Mercy the Lord is calling us in a special way to reach out to our sisters and brothers who are struggling to make ends meet. In spite of the 90 degree weather last Saturday, we had the wonderful experience of serving dinner to approximately 220 guests at Eva’s Village in Paterson. They really enjoyed the meatloaf, potatoes and corn you prepared or donated. As they entered the dining room, each person was given a pair of socks and a banana, which they appreciated. Thanks go to you for preparing the meatloaves and donating the corn, potatoes, bananas and socks. We are also grateful to the Good Samaritans for organizing and serving the dinner with the help of some volunteers from our parish. As this Holy Year of Mercy draws to a close, as a parish, we can look back and know that we are reaching out in mercy to many of God’s People. God bless you. REFURBISHING OUR ADORATION CHAPEL CONTRIBUTONS ARE WELCOME In this past week we have been upgrading our Perpetual Adoration Chapel in the Convent. The Chapel and the hallway leading into and near the Chapel have been completely repainted to maintain and beautify this precious devotional space. The restroom has been redone as well. Our Chapel lighting has been moderately strengthened to make it easier on the eye for our Chapel spiritual reading. The new lighting and painting are deliberately done in soft shades of light and color to keep the Chapel a quiet, gentle place for our prayer and adoration. Some floor carpeting in the Chapel area is being changed to more heavy duty carpet in response to the wear and tear of difficult weather conditions. We hope all these changes will enhance your prayerful experience when you pray in our Chapel. Several good people who love our Chapel asked if they could volunteer to help get this work done. We thank you for your eagerness to help. We decided, however, to have this work done by professional contractors to minimize the amount of time that we would have to close the Chapel and to make sure that we can hold those doing the work to the high standards which are so necessary for the Adoration Chapel. Several people have offered to make a contribution to help pay for this important Chapel project. Already, we have received several substantial contributions towards the Chapel work. We certainly do welcome and invite you to make a financial gift to help us maintain and upgrade our Adoration Chapel experience. Many who visit our Adoration Chapel regularly, or even occasionally, really want to contribute so they can express their gratitude to Our Lord for His visible Eucharistic presence to us in our Chapel every day, 24 hours a day. We thank you for helping our parish make our Chapel an even better oasis of quiet beauty and peacefulness where we can meet Jesus face to face in Eucharistic Adoration at any time of the day or night. Please do come and visit with Jesus in our Adoration Chapel. He is here for us all.
