First Reading: 1 Kings 19:16b, 19-21
Elijah the prophet followed God's instruction to appoint a man named Elisha as his successor. Elijah
threw his cloak over Elisha, who went and said
good-bye to his family, then followed Elijah without
question.
Second Reading: Galatians 5:1, 13-18
Paul reminds us that people were freed from the old
law through Christ. But he makes it clear that this
freedom does not mean giving in to evil desires. Instead, we must be guided by the Spirit and most importantly love our neighbor as ourselves.
Gospel: Luke 9:51-62
Jesus set out for Jerusalem, and passed through a
town where He was not welcomed. He reprimanded
His disciples for desiring vengeance against the
town. One man wanted to follow Jesus when he had
finished his duties at home. Jesus expressed that a
man who begins a task, but constantly looks back is
unfit for the reign of God.

FORTNIGHT FOR FREEDOM
CHRISTMAS SHOW-DEC. 19
The U.S. bishops have called
for a Fortnight for Freedom, a
two-week period of prayer
and action, to address many
current challenges to religious
liberty, including the August
1, 2013 deadline for religious
organizations to comply with the HHS mandate, Supreme Court rulings that could attempt to redefine
marriage in June, and religious liberty concerns in
areas such as immigration and humanitarian services. We invite all parishioners to be informed,
pray, fast and act on it as we can read in the extended article on page 4. A concrete action we can
take is participating in the Closing Mass of the Fortnight for Freedom at the Basilica of the National
Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC, on July 4th at Noon.
Our church’s St. Martin de Porres
Guild invites all parishioners to join
them for the Christmas Show at Radio
City Music Hall in NYC on Thursday,
December 19, 2013 with a show time at
11AM. The bus will be leaving from our church at
9:30AM sharp. The cost will be $135 per person and
includes the bus ride and lunch. For ticket information, please contact Carol Byrd at 973-675-4096.
NEW ARCHDIOCESE VICAR GENERAL
Most. Rev. Edgar M. Da Cunha, presently auxiliary bishop, was appointed
Vicar General of the Archdiocese of
Newark.
OUTDOOR CHARISMATIC CONCERT
LIFE IN THE SPIRIT SEMINAR
Our charismatic group, “Nueva Uncion,” invites all parishioners to a
seminar titled, “Life in the Spirit.” It
continues today at 4PM in the school
gym. The event will continue for the
next 6 weeks. This event will be in Spanish.
4TH OF JULY
Next Thursday, 4th of July, there will
be only one Mass at 9AM. There will
NOT be a regular evening Mass at
7PM. The rectory office will be closed
to open the following day. Have a
happy and safe Independence day as
we pray for religious freedom in our country.
GUADALUPE STATUE REDEDICATION
The family of Joe Monaco invites all parishioners for the rededication of the outdoor statue of Our Lady of Guadalupe
located in the small garden besides the
church towards the parking lot. Joe
Monaco was an important benefactor of
our church and the person who donated this statue.
His family would like him to be remembered by our
parish with this new rededication which will take
place on Sunday, July 14th after the 10:30 Mass.
Our charismatic group, “Nueva
Uncion,” will be hosting an outdoor concert on Sunday, July 14th
after the 1:30PM Mass until 6PM
in Spanish. It will be a concert in
with music, praises, teaching and
fellowship. It will be in the parking lot of our Convent located directly across the street from the main
entrance of our church. For more information, please
contact Carmen Fuentes (908)265-9037.
PARISH REGISTRATION
Thanks to our faithful parishioners who have registered and are using their collection
envelopes during Sunday Mass.
Use of envelopes makes a more
thoughtful donation, proves your
assistance to Mass and enables you
to receive an acknowledgement of
your donation. Moreover, regular use of the envelopes enables our parishioners to receive sponsor
certifications, immigration letters and other letters of
support. Please remember that a parishioner needs
to be active (registered and using their envelopes at
Sunday Mass at least twice a month) for at least two
months prior to qualify to receive letters or qualify
to be a sponsor for sacraments. If you have not yet
done it, please come to the church rectory Monday
through Friday from 9AM-5PM to register.

Invitamos a

FORTHNIGHT FOR FREEDOM
Pope Benedict XVI spoke last year about
his worry that religious liberty in the United
States is being weakened. He called religious liberty the “most cherished of
American freedoms.” However, unfortunately, our most cherished freedom is under threat. Consider the following:
§ HHS mandate for contraception, sterilization, and
abortion-inducing drugs. This mandate forces religious institutions to facilitate and fund a product
contrary to their own moral teaching. Further, the
government tries to define which religious institutions are “religious enough” to merit protection.
§ Catholic foster care and adoption services. Several
states have driven local Catholic Charities out of providing adoption or foster care services because those
Charities refused to place children with same-sex
couples or unmarried opposite-sex couples who cohabit.
§ State immigration laws. Several states have recently passed laws that forbid Christian charity and
pastoral care to undocumented immigrants.
§ Discrimination against small church congregations. New York City adopted a policy that barred
churches from renting public schools on weekends
for worship services, even though non-religious
groups could rent the same schools.
§ Discrimination against Catholic humanitarian
services. After years of excellent performance by the
U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Migration
(MRS) in administering services for victims of human trafficking, the federal government changed its
specifications to require MRS to provide or refer for
contraceptive and abortion in violation of conscience
§ Christian students on campus. Hastings College
of Law has denied student organization status to
only one group, the Christian Legal Society, because
it required its leaders to be Christian and to abstain
from sexual activity outside of marriage.
§ Forcing religious groups to host samesex “marriage” or civil union ceremonies. A NJ
judge found that a Methodist ministry violated state
law when they declined to allow a “civil union” ceremony on its private property. A complaint has been
filed against the Catholic Church in Hawaii requesting to use a chapel to hold a same-sex “marriage.”
cristiana hacia inmigrantes indocumentados.
§ Obligar a Grupos Religiosos a hacer ’Matrimonios
