Huron River Water Trail Trip Description 1 Kent Lake Dam (Mile 90.9
Huron River Water Trail Trip Description Kent Lake Dam (Mile 90.9) to Huron Meadows Metropark (Mile 79.5) -‐ 5.5 hours; 11.4 miles Launch just downstream from Kent Lake Dam. Take out at Cedar Ridge Picnic Area in Huron Meadows Metropark. TRIP DESCRIPTION: This begins in the 1,540-‐acre Island Lake State Recreation Area. Putting in below the dam, you’ll notice large chunks of limestone, added as an erosion control measure to prevent soil loss around the dam. In this strech, the river is 40-‐60 feet wide and slowly meanders through lowland forests. A densely packed, oak-‐hickory forest provides a quiet, serene setting to observe scarlet tanagers and yellow-‐billed cuckoos. Island Lake State Recreation Area has a shooting range that may yield some noise during your trip. However, the clear water, good access, route through public land, and potential for wildlife sightings make this a great trip. Debris clearing in this part of the river is shared by the Island Lake State Recreation Area and a private livery. Contact Heavner Canoe and Kayak Rental if you are interested in renting boats for this trip. This is the landing for Heavner-‐supported trips concluding at Placeway Picnic Area. Photo credit: Heavner Canoe. If you bypass the takeout at Placeway Picnic Area in Island State Recreation Area, continue on through Huron River Watershed Council Bioreserve Areas, under Highway I-‐96, and on into the Huron Meadows Metropark. Here, you will see a landing near the Cedar Ridge Picnic Area Mile (24.5). Heavner Canoe and Kayak Rental runs a trip from Kent Lake Dam to Huron Meadows Metropark, with an estimated trip length of 5 to 5.5 hours. 1 Huron River Water Trail Trip Description Launch & Take-‐out site map: Island Lake State Recreation Area Unit Map (link to HCMA map) Launch 2 BRIGHTON | | f n nf 90.9 mi E Gran E Gran E Granddd Rive Gran E Rive RiverrrrrrAve Ave Ave Ave 88 88 Island Island Lake Lake State State Recreation Area Area Recreation Lake LakeRd Lake Rd Rd Rd Lake Lake Lake Rd Maltby MaltbyRd Rd Rd Maltby Maltby Maltby Maltby Huron Huron Meadows Meadows Metropark Metropark Ore Lake 77 77 78 78 80 80 Rd Rd Rd ke ke Rd ke Rd La La Lake ke La ns ns La ina ina inans W W Wina ina W W 93 93 92 92 91 91 90 90 | 88.7 mi | j j | | 87.3 mi j j 87 87 85 85 Rd Rd Rd McCabe McCabe McCabe McCabe Rd Rd Rd Rd McCabe McCabe McCabe McCabeRd 83 83 82 82 Silver Silver SilverLake Lake Lake Rd Rd Lake Silver Silver Silver Rd LakeRd Rd Trl Trl Pontia PontiacccTrl Trl Pontia 9 9 87.1 mi _ _ 84 84 81 81 79 79 Kent Lake 86 86 Rickett Rd Rickett Rd Rd Rickett Rd Rickett Rickett Hamburg Rd Hamburg Rd Hamburg Rd Hamburg HamburgRd Rd | | 79.5 mi _ _ 89 89 on Rd on Rd Kensingt Kensingt Kensington on n Rd Kensingt Kensingt Kensingto Kensingt Vly Vly PleasantVly Pleasant Vly Vly Pleasant Pleasant Pleasant Huron River Water Trail Trip Description Padding route map: | |85.5 mi j j SOUTH LY 3 Huron River Water Trail Trip Description Take-‐out site map: PARK FEES: A Metropark Motor Vehicle Entry Permit gives you access to all 13 Huron-‐Clinton Metroparks.
