From the Pastor’s Desk
Dear Brothers and Sisters:
Never Give up!
YES, here we are, the weekend of our Church Fes val! All our mee ngs and planning are over. Now it
is me to execute, and enjoy the fruits of our labor. Let us put God first, and celebrate our lives at
Holy Name. Even if things don’t go the way we
think they should, don’t give up. Years ago there
was a young man in Illinois with only six months of
formal school educa on. His mother homeschooled
him and taught him to have a dream and to keep
trying to realize that dream, relying on the power
of persistent prayer. First, he ran for an office in the
legislature and was beaten. Next, he entered business but failed at that, too, and spent the next 17
years paying the debts of his worthless partner. He
fell in love with a charming young lady and they became engaged. But she died which led the young
man to a short-term nervous breakdown. Next, he
ran for Congress and was defeated. He then tried to
obtain an appointment to the U.S. Land Office but
didn’t succeed. With a strong belief in the power of
prayer, he ran for the U. S. Vice-Presidency and
lost. Two years later he was defeated again for the
office of Senator. He ran for office once more and
was elected the 16th President of the United
States, thus realizing his dream by the power of
persistent prayer. He was Abraham Lincoln. It took
Winston Churchill three years to get through the
eighth grade, because he couldn’t pass English – of
all things! Ironically, he was asked many years later
to give the commencement address at Oxford University. His now famous speech consisted of only
three words: “Never give up!” And that is the message of today’s Gospel parable of the poor widow
and the corrupt judge. (Harold Buetow in God S ll

Queridos hermanos y hermanas:
Nunca te rindas!
Finalmente se llego nuestro fes val. Todas nuestras
reuniones y la planificación han terminado. Ahora
es el empo para ejecutar y disfrutar de los frutos
de nuestra planificación. Pongamos a Dios primero
y celebremos nuestra vida en nuestra parroquia de
Holy Name. Incluso si las cosas no van como pensamos o como se planearon. No te rindas. Años atrás,
un hombre joven en Illinois con sólo seis meses de
educación escolar formal. Educado en casa por su
madre , ella le enseñó a soñar y a seguir intentando
hacer realidad ese sueño, confiando en el poder de
la oración constante. Primero se postuló para un
cargo en la legislatura pero no fue elegido. Después, entró en los negocios pero no tuvo éxito en
eso tampoco, y pasó los siguientes 17 años pagando las deudas de su socio. Se enamoro de una encantadora señorita y se comprome eron. Pero ella
murió, lo que llevó al joven a un colapso nervioso
de corto plazo. Después, se postuló para el Congreso y fue derrotado. Mas tarde, trató de obtener un
nombramiento en la Oficina de los EE.UU., pero no
prospero. Con una fuerte creencia en el poder de la
oración, se postuló a ls Vicepresidencia y de EE.UU
y perdido. Dos años más tarde fue derrotado nuevamente por la oficina del senador. Se postuló a la
oficina una vez más y fue elegido el 16º Presidente
de los Estados Unidos, realizando así su sueño mediante el poder de la oración constante. Este joven
fue Abraham Lincoln. Winston Churchill tardó tres
años hasta llegar al octavo grado, porque él no podía pasar Inglés - de todas las cosas! Irónicamente,
muchos años más tarde se le pidio dar el discurso
de graduación en la Universidad de Oxford. Su ahora famoso discurso sólo constaba de tres palabras:
"Nunca te rindas!" Y ese es el mensaje evangélico
de hoy en la parábola de la viuda pobre y el juez
corrupto. (Harold Buetow en Dios aún habla! Escuchar).
