I just can't express all my emotions and
feelings right now, even after all those weeks
that have gone by, after landing on Peruvian
soil, I have found myself not being able to
shake that glorious feeling of having spent an
entire month studying, meeting new people
and having the time of my life in one of the
most important, most cosmopolitan cities of
the world: London, in the heart of England,
the groovy United Kingdom, an ocean away
from home. London… a great place where
you can find anything and everything that
crosses your mind, but also where you could
get easily lost.

Por medio de un artículo (*), hacer una propuesta que se pueda
implementar para ayudar al cuidado y preservación del medio
ambiente. Los temas pueden ser el reciclaje, la contaminación,
el calentamiento global, el cambio climático, la ecología y
biodiversidad, entre otros.

Centro Cultural en Miraflores.

BRITÁNICO: MY HOME
Gina Johnson, Los Jardines Deputy Head
This month at BRITÁNICO Los Jardines, students in the Juniors and Kids
levels participated in two contests. Juniors made an acrostic with the
word BRITÁNICO and Kids made a poster to express what the
BRITÁNICO means to them. All the acrostics and posters were really
good and meaningful, and they all showed that our students regard
BRITÁNICO Los Jardines as their second home.
On this occasion, the winners were: K04 12.10 Teacher :Cecilia Nevado
and J07 12.10 Teacher: Pilar Trujillo.
METHODOLOGY REFRESHER COURSE

Con éxito culminó el primer Methodology Refresher Course
(MRC) ofrecido por el BRITÁNICO en el mes de enero. En el
curso participaron profesores de varias instituciones,
quienes intercambiaron experiencias y desarrollaron —con
apoyo del tutor— diversos temas metodológicos, los cuales
definitivamente reforzarán su trabajo en el aula.
Al momento de la redacción de la presente nota, está en
progreso un segundo grupo que inició su curso los
primeros días de febrero. Felicitamos a todos los
participantes, profesores de inglés, por el continuo interés
en su desarrollo profesional.

LAS TABLETS DÍA A DÍA
Viajar a través de montañas de información con solo un toque de los dedos, leer un libro en una pantalla portátil o navegar por la
Red en cualquier lugar del mundo, sin cables (esas cadenas que nos atan a un solo lugar), ya no son fantasías de un mundo futurista
retratado en el cine. Hoy son una realidad y se llaman tablets.
La vida diaria nos viene acostumbrando a la simplicidad, accesibilidad y portabilidad. Las tablets son un claro ejemplo de estos
atributos.
Pequeñas y cómodas, tan fáciles de usar como pasar una página de un libro y cada vez a precios más atractivos, las tablets están aquí
para cambiar el mundo. Por ejemplo, hoy en día, con una tablet un estudiante de medicina tiene acceso a modelos anatómicos en
3D en el momento en que lo necesita; los arquitectos pueden revisar planos de estructuras conocidas o de sus proyectos; los
periodistas pueden mantenerse al día, y revisar y publicar artículos; y los estudiantes de economía, con un solo movimiento de los
dedos, obtienen toda la información de la bolsa de valores.
Pero no queda solo ahí. Los estudiantes de primaria y secundaria también se pueden valer de las tablets como herramientas de
aprendizaje. Con aplicaciones divertidas y didácticas para los más pequeños u otras más avanzadas e interactivas para los más
grandes, la tablet es una compañera ideal para aprender y estudiar, además de ser una herramienta ideal para cualquier profesor.
Pensemos por un momento en la cantidad de papel que ahorraríamos si los libros
fueran ahora solo digitales. ¿Cuántos bosques se salvarían? Literatura, revistas de todo
tipo, libros de texto, manuales, etc. Todo digital. ¿Te imaginas la cantidad de manuales
que tiene que revisar un piloto de aviones? Con una tablet, no solo tiene los manuales
a la mano sino también información sobre el vuelo: rutas aéreas, altitud, inclinación...
todo en la palma de su mano.
Viendo hacia el futuro, muy pronto todos seremos usuarios de tablets y tendremos el
mundo en la palma de nuestras manos.

Una vez más, con mucha
expectativa e interés retomamos
el programa Verano Full el
mismo que promueve las artes
manuales, esta vez, destinado
a nuestros alumnos de Juniors
y Kids, en armonía con sus
vacaciones
escolares.
Aprovechando esta temporada
ofrecimos originales talleres
que entusiasmaron a los
participantes, quienes hicieron
gala
de
creatividad
y
espontaneidad, tan natural en
los niños, colmando de alegría
las aulas del BRITÁNICO.
La oferta fue por demás
atractiva y variada, que los
alumnos se acogieron en
seguida, tal como sucedió en
el BRITÁNICO Surco, donde
tuvimos una sesión de
bisutería en la que aprendieron
a confeccionar un novedoso
juego de pulsera y aretes a
base de acrílicos y cuentas de
murano. En el BRITÁNICO San
Juan de Lurigancho, los
Juniors pintaron un simpático
cachorro de cerámica al
horno, logrando notables
resultados. En el BRITÁNICO
Miraflores, fue muy grato
apreciar la atención y
disposición que pusieron los
Kids en el taller de Mini Chef,
donde intervinieron en la
elaboración de una tartaleta
de fresa y en la degustación
de este rico postre. Tanto en
el centro de Pueblo Libre
como en el de San Miguel, se
dictaron talleres de pintura en
Trupán, donde se pintaron y
decoraron bellas cajas y marcos
portafotos, respectivamente,
con diversas aplicaciones que
complementaron sus delicados
trabajos.

HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN (ELIZABETH ALEXANDRA MARY; BORN 21 APRIL 1926) BECAME MONARCH ON 6 FEBRUARY 1952, ON THE DEATH OF HER FATHER,
GEORGE VI. SHE HAS BECOME THE SECOND MONARCH IN BRITISH HISTORY TO CELEBRATE SIXTY YEARS ON THE THRONE. THE PREVIOUS MONARCH TO
ACHIEVE THIS WAS QUEEN VICTORIA (1819-1901), WHO REIGNED AS QUEEN OF THE UK AND IRELAND FOR A TOTAL OF 63 YEARS.

2012 THE QUEEN’S WRITTEN MESSAGE
At the precise moment she ascended to the throne, she was not
in the UK but at the start of a tour that was supposed to go to
Australia and New Zealand after an African safari. At 7.30am
back in England, James MacDonald, valet to George VI, was
taking the king his morning cup of tea at Sandringham when it
was discovered that he had died during the night from a heart
attack. It was then that the coded news "Hyde Park Corner"
flashed to London was broken to Winston Churchill, who was
Prime Minister at the time.
In her message to mark the anniversary, the Queen said, "I am
writing to thank you for the wonderful support and
encouragement that you have given to me and Prince Philip over
these years and to tell you how deeply moved we have been to
receive so many kind messages about the Diamond Jubilee. In
this special year, as I dedicate myself anew to your service, I hope
we will all be reminded of the power of togetherness and the
convening strength of family, friendship and good
neighbourliness, examples of which I have been fortunate to see
throughout my reign and which my family and I look forward to
seeing in many forms as we travel throughout the United
Kingdom and the wider Commonwealth."
Word that her father had died and that she was Queen was
gently passed to the 25-year-old princess by her husband, Prince
Philip. Shortly afterwards, a message from Queen Elizabeth The
Queen Mother to comfort her daughter was sent privately over
the radio and delivered to her as a handwritten telegram

DIAMOND JUBILEE CELEBRATIONS
On 3 February 2012, on the first official engagement of her Diamond Jubilee year, Her
Majesty planted a tree in the Diamond Jubilee Wood on her Sandringham estate (even
though, like much of England, it was covered with snow). To mark the eve of Royal
celebrations and to start festivities, on 5 February, the public were treated to a lavish
firework display in Greenwich, London. On 6 February, the Queen visited King’s Lynn in
Norfolk. In Scotland a 21-Gun Royal Salute was fired at Edinburgh Castle at noon.
London followed suit later with a 41-gun salute in Hyde Park and a 62-gun salute at the
Tower of London.
And this is just the start! Celebrations are set to be marked by a series of regional,
national and international events during 2012 by individuals and communities,
culminating in a four-day long UK Bank Holiday weekend of 2 – 5 June, fireworks, gun
salutes, stamps, beacons, street parties, exhibitions, official photo releases, Royal events
… you name it, it is going to be a joyful and busy year!

NATIONAL DAYS IN BRITAIN ARE NOT CELEBRATED TO THE SAME EXTENT AS NATIONAL DAYS IN COUNTRIES
LIKE FRANCE OR AMERICA.
SCOTLAND’S NATIONAL DAY IS ST. ANDREW’S DAY (30 NOVEMBER),
ST. DAVID’S DAY
which has now largely been overshadowed by Burns’ Night. St.
(c.520-588), the patron saint of Wales, was the founder and
Andrew, one of Christ’s twelve apostles, is the patron saint of
first abbot-bishop of Menevia, now St. David’s in Dyfed, South
Scotland. Some of his bones are said to have been brought to
Wales. The day is commemorated by the wearing of daffodils or
what is now St. Andrew in Fife during the 4th century. Since
leeks by patriotic Welsh people. Both plants are traditionally
medieval times, the X-shaped saltire upon which St. Andrew was
regarded as the national emblems of Wales.

George is the patron saint of England. A story that first
appeared in the 6th century tells that St. George rescued a
hapless maid by slaying a fearsome fire-breathing dragon! The
saint’s name was shouted as a battle cry by English knights who
fought beneath the red cross banner of St. George during the
Hundred Years’ War (1338-1453).
ST. PATRICK’S DAY
ENGLAND’S NATIONAL DAY IS ST. GEORGE’S DAY
(17 March) is an official Bank Holiday in
Northern Ireland. The work of St. Patrick (c.389-c.461) was a
vital factor in the spread of Christianity in Ireland. Born in Britain,
he was carried off by pirates, and spent six years in slavery before
escaping and training as a missionary. The day is marked by the
wearing of shamrocks (a clover-like plant), the national badge of
both Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
Today the red cross of St. George still flies above every English
parish church to mark the saint’s day.

flamenco-pop. Un concierto que

múltiples posibilidades rítmicas
del cajón peruano en temas
propios y covers clásicos del rock
y pop en inglés y español de las
últimas tres décadas.
La intérprete, considerada la
pionera del reggae femenino en
nuestro país y los Reggae
Rockers, nos presentan un
espectáculo de reggae roots
(subgénero del reggae que nace a
partir del ska y el rocksteady de
tipo espiritual), pasando por
ritmos afroamericanos y fusiones
de soul con rythm and blues.
La violinista nos presenta un
concierto electroacústico, con
una interpretación versátil a
través de improvisaciones con
base electrónica y procesamiento
de voz, empleando tocadiscos,
vinilos, violín chino, ocean harp y
teclado. Una performance
multimedia que confluye en la
emoción a través de la música y
las imágenes.
