Happy Good Shepherd Sunday! Although we have some
families in the parish who take care of flocks of sheep or
goats, most of us have never had to herd sheep. Pope
Francis said in a homily two years ago that Pastors should
smell like their sheep! Next week I will be traveling with
about 45 faithful to Spain, Fatima and Lourdes and during
the trip I’m sure that will be true. On a deeper level I want
to carry with me all your concerns, needs, and intentions.
Even though you can’t all walk the road, or be there
together, I know you will be there. My most important
vocation as a pastor is to pray for you and carry you with
me. Be assured of my prayers and Masses this coming
pilgrimage. And may God bless us all in the journey
together as sheep of one shepherd in one flock.
Mother’s Day Novena
Include your living or deceased mother (and/or family
members and friends) in the spiritual benefits of a nine-day
novena of Masses that will begin on Mother’s Day. Stop
by the Parish Office to have the name(s) of your loved
one(s) included on the list that will be placed on
the Altar during the novena Masses. Donation
is $10 and there is no limit to the number
of names. Greeting cards will be provided
for you to give to those being prayed for.
We Are Getting Desperate
The Vocations Committee is looking for someone to call
and schedule parishioners who have already committed for
the Blessing Cup, a program that supports prayer for an
increase of religious vocations.
It’s sorta like Loaves & Fishes. You provide some phone
calls, others provide the prayers and a miracle happens.

Lists of names & phone numbers will be supplied. You will
need to call 4-5 names a month and then report those who
have been scheduled to the Vocations Committee secretary.

Catholic Home Missions Appeal Next Week
What is a “Home Mission” Diocese? Home mission dioceses are located
all across the United States, including the Deep South, Appalachia, and
the Rocky Mountains. These dioceses lack the resources to provide their
faithful with basic pastoral care, including sacraments, religious education,
& ministry training. They often struggle with priest shortages, parishioner
poverty, unemployment, difficult & isolated terrain, religious hostility, &
other circumstances that make it difficult to practice the faith. The Appeal
strengthens the Church in the United States by providing yearly grants to
support programs in home mission dioceses, which make up over 40% of
all U.S. dioceses. Please be generous & use the specially marked envelopes
provided in your packet of regular tithing envelopes.

He is also a professor at Jesuit-run
Ateneo de Naga University, is
actively involved in many cultural
and social undertakings, and is an
accomplished writer and author.
Fr. Wilmer is director of the Ateneo de Naga
University Press and is chief exective director
of the Consuelo Chito Madrigal Foundation,
an NGO that helps the poorest members of the
region by providing an entrepreneurship program,
microfinance, housing, scholarships and religious
and ethical formation. As a scholar he has
delivered various papers on language, education,
justice, culture and spirituality in the Philippines
and in some countries including Germany,
Dominican Republic, South Korea among others.

Feliz Domingo del Buen Pastor! Aunque tenemos
algunas familias de la parroquia que se ocupan
de los rebaños de ovejas o cabras, la mayoría de
nosotros nunca hemos tenido que reunir ovejas.
Nuestro Papa Francisco dijo en una homilía hace dos años que los
pastores deben oler como sus ovejas! La próxima semana estaré viajando
con alrededor de 45 fieles a España, Fátima y Lourdes y durante este
viaje estoy seguro de que va a ser verdadero. En un nivel más profundo,
quiero llevar conmigo todas sus preocupaciones, necesidades e
intenciones. A pesar de que no se puede caminar todo el camino, o estar
allí juntos Sé que van a estar allí. Mi vocación más importante como
pastor es orar por ustedes y los llevaré conmigo. Tenga la seguridad de
mis oraciones y misas el próximo peregrinaje. Y que Dios nos bendiga a
todos en este viaje juntos como ovejas de un pastor de un rebaño.

El Rebaño del Pastor
En el arte cristiano, las primeras imágenes de Jesucristo no
fueron de su crucifixión ni de su resurrección. Fueron de
Jesús como el Buen Pastor, tal como nos lo presentan las
lecturas de hoy. En el pasaje evangélico Jesús se nos revela
como el pastor y sus seguidores son su “rebaño”. La primera
y la segunda lecturas nos cuentan un poco más sobre el
rebaño. El pasaje de los Hechos nos asegura que tanto los
judíos como los gentiles están llamados a seguir a Jesús. Es
la fe, no el derecho de cuna, lo que nos permite pertenecer
a la comunidad de creyentes. En el pasaje del libro del
Apocalipsis, apren.demos que el rebaño que le sigue a este
Cordero de Dios será también purificado en su sangre.
Tendrán que sobrellevar un tiempo de prueba antes de
gozar de la vida eterna. Estén seguros de la promesa, nos
avisa, pero sepan que hay un precio que pagar.
