CONTINUALLY PRAISING GOD
In both the first reading and the Gospel we are told
about Christ’s glorious ascension into heaven. Paul’s
letter to the Ephesians reminds us that Christ has been
seated at God’s right hand in heaven, above every choir
of angels. There might be a temptation to stay at an awed
distance from Jesus Christ. However, the tone of today’s
readings is far from that temptation. The tone is exultant
and the message is urgent. We are to be his witnesses,
and the Gospel describes the first witnesses this way:
“[W]ith great joy . . . they were continually in the temple
praising God” (Luke 24:53).
How can we continually praise God? The answer can
be found in the second reading, in which Paul prays that
God will give us a “Spirit of
wisdom and revelation” in order
to know Christ clearly
(Ephesians 1:17). We cannot
stand at a distance. We are to be
enlightened and empowered.
CONTINUAMENTE ALABANDO A DIOS

distancia. Vamos a ser iluminados y fortalecidos.
TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION
The Second Vatican Council decreed that the devotional life
of the Church should be examined and reformed with an eye
towards expressing Easter faith. This encouragement for creativity
has deep roots in our tradition, and some attempts at reform show
great
promise. One of the great treasures in our devotional repertoire is a
familiar feature of Lent: the Way of the Cross. The faithful walk a
path recalling the events of Christ’s passion, a contemplative
experience increasingly enriched these days by scripture and song.
There are fourteen stations in the usual configuration, although in
recent years, a fifteenth station of the Empty Tomb has been
added. Why stop there? Why not develop a similar journey
structured on the theme of the appearances of the Risen Lord?
Over the last decade, a Via Lucis, or “Way of Light,” has
developed as a companion to the Via Crucis. It has been celebrated
at the Vatican and is catching on elsewhere. There are fourteen
stations, beginning with the Women Carrying Spices to the Tomb,
continuing with the familiar appearances of the Lord at Emmaus,
the Upper Room, the shore of Tiberias. The journey ends with
stations recalling the apostles’ wait with Mary for the advent of the
Spirit, and with Pentecost. This is fertile ground indeed for the
genius of artists, musicians, preachers, and liturgists. This is a
living example of how many of our traditions are born to fill a
great spiritual need, and spread to every corner of the Church. It
may even come soon to a church near you. Maybe next
Eastertime!
TRADICIONES DE NUESTRA FE
Hoy celebramos a una mujer potente e importante en
nuestras vidas; la madre. La historia del Día de las
Madres se originó en las fiestas griegas en honor de
Rhea, la madre de los dioses. A lo largo de la historia los
cristianos también hemos recordado a la Madre de Dios,
María, en varias solemnidades, pero hace sólo 100 años
que en el 10 de mayo de 1907 en Estados Unidos se
empezó a promover la idea de un día de reconocimiento
del amor que tenemos como humanos por nuestras
propias madres. Eventualmente se paso a muchas
naciones latinoamericanas.
Muchas culturas latinoamericanas son matriarcales,
es decir, el papel de la madre en la familia es algo
esencial. Para los latinos, no hay amor más grande que el
de una madre. Sin olvidar la función del padre, ella es la
que nos da la vida, nos enseña como vivirla y nos da
alimento. Su amor nos recuerda al de Cristo, quien con
sacrificio y amor da vida a la Iglesia. Su amor sostiene y
cuando las cosas se ponen difíciles emocionalmente,
nuestro deseo secreto es de estar en los brazos de mamá.

Our lady of Guadalupe Church will be hosting an 8 week “Doors of
Mercy Program”. It is designed to review the many ways that God has
shown his mercy and continues to giveth in the lives in each one of us,
today. Although, sometimes we may or may not see it.

We are no longer allowed to park at Talento Bilingue De
Houston Parking Lot (on Jenson St.) during our Sunday masses
including the day of our festival. They recently informed us
they rented out their facility to Elevate Church and they will
need the use of their parking lot every Sunday until 4:00 pm.

“Mantener la promesa Alive” es un curso obligatorio
para los empleados y voluntarios de la Iglesia. Para
asistir a “Mantener la promesa Alive” despues de 5
años de asistir el programa “Protegiendo a los Ninos de Dios” sera una
sesión de 1.5 horas con un solo video que proporciona la conciencia para
la prevención del abuso sexual infantil. El material cubierto reforza las
lecciones del programa original mediante la aclaración de algunos de los
aspectos mas desafiantes de la sesiones el fortalecimiento de la capacidad
de los participantes para reconocer el comportamiento riesgoso por los
adultos y intervenir en situaciones potencialmente mortales.
“Mantener la promesa Alive” en español se llevara a cabo en Nuestra
Senora de Guadalupe el 25 de junio, 12:00 - 1:30pm.

“Protecting God’s Children”
Preventing child sexual abuse is the goal of the Archdiocesan Safe
Environment Office. This program selected by the Archdiocese is to educate clergy, staff and volunteers who work with children and youth about
child sexual abuse and the ways to create a safe environment for children.
The 3 hour session includes videos and facilitated discussions that focus on
the prevention of abuse and the protection of children. Adults learn how to
recognize the warning signs of sexual abuse and to respond appropriately.
A “Protecting God’s Children” workshop in English will be held at Our Lady
of Guadalupe on June 4, 2016 from 8am - 11am.
All attendees must have a drivers license, passport or Consulate ID card.
