Enjoy a breakfast buffet this Mother’s Day morning with your
parish family and be part of the Holy Name Society’s Good Cause Giveaway. Meet and hear the
winners read their winning essays and collect their prizes in our annual Essay Contest. Checks will
also be distributed to many other worthy organizations made
possible by our yearlong fund raising efforts. The Holy Name Society provides support to the
School, Youth Program, Youth Ministry, Veterans, Scouting Program, Fay Cassato Scholarship and
Vincent DePaul/Food Pantry.
This is the third year, of the long-time past-president, Sal Iacullo Scholarship Fund to help a graduating 8th grader entering a Catholic high school.

Institute for College Admissions.
Funded through the generosity of the Heckscher Foundation for Children,
the Summer Institute attracts nearly 200 admissions and counseling professionals from all
over the world. This diverse cohort will have the opportunity to engage with and participate in
workshops developed by Harvard University, College Board and nationally-recognized leaders in the field.
The 2016 Summer Institute will address the current and future trends in college admissions
and offer the best thinking on effective ways to assist students in making the right sets of
choices about their lives. The program includes topics such as essay writing, financial aid,

Religious Education News
Registration for Religious Education Classes for the 2016-2017 year will begin on Monday,
April 18, 2016.
A New Registration Form must be completed for ALL PRESENT STUDENTS as well as for
new students to our program.
Tuition: $120 per child for 1 or 2 children, 3 or more children $295. More than 3 children $50
extra per child.
Cash or money order is preferable.
AT THE TIME OF REGISTRATION, A $75 MINIMUM DEPOSIT IS REQUIRED

alzandosi dalla santa Mensa, se ne va con tutto il cielo
nel suo cuore!...

Ah, felice la casa nella quale abitano tali cristiani!... quale
rispetto bisogna avere per essi, durante la giornata.
Avere, in casa, un secondo tabernacolo dove il buon Dio
ha dimorato veramente in corpo e anima!

- Forse, mi direte ancora: se questa felicità è così grande,
perché dunque la Chiesa ci dà il comandamento di
comunicarci una volta ogni anno?
- Questo comandamento non è fatto per i buoni cristiani,
esiste soltanto per i cristiani pusillanimi e indifferenti
verso la salvezza della loro povera anima. Agli inizi della
Chiesa, la più grande punizione che si poteva imporre ai
cristiani era di privarli di tale felicità; ogni volta che
avevano la gioia di assistere alla santa Messa, avevano
la gioia di comunicare.
Mio Dio! possibile che dei cristiani rimangano tre, quattro,
cinque e sei mesi, senza dare questo nutrimento celeste
alle loro povere anime? La lasciano morire di inedia!...
Mio Dio!, che guaio e quale accecamento!... avendo tanti
rimedi per guarirla e un cibo così adatto a conservarla in
salute!
La Chiesa, vedendo quanto già i cristiani perdevano di
vista la salvezza delle loro povere anime, sperando che il
timore del peccato facesse loro aprire gli occhi, dette loro
un comandamento che li obbligava a comunicarsi tre
volte all'anno, a Natale, a Pasqua e a Pentecoste.
Ma in seguito, vedendo che i cristiani diventavano
sempre più insensibili alla loro disgrazia, la Chiesa ha
finito per non obbligarli più ad avvicinarsi al loro Dio,
tranne una volta all'anno. O mio Dio!, che disgrazia e
quale accecamento che un cristiano sia obbligato a
mezzo di leggi a cercare la sua felicità!

TOMADO DE LA PALABRA
ENTRE NOSOTROS
El amor de Dios es capaz de transformar el
mundo. Este es el amor que fluye entre nosotros cuando unos y otros ponemos la vida al
servicio del prójimo. Si elevamos el Corazón al
cielo en la oración meditada , estudiamos
seriamente la Sagrada Escritura y recibimos a
Jesús en la Sagrada Eucaristía, podemos llegar
a conocer íntimamente el amor de Dios.
Jesús nos manda amar de la misma forma
completa y total como él nos ama. Cuando
aceptamos su amor, recibimos también el
poder para darlo gratuitamente a los demás, y
cuando comunicamos el amor que hemos
recibido, nos hacemos colaboradores en el
trabajo del Espíritu , cuya misión es llevar a
todo el mundo a Cristo Jesús. Así, teniendo
parte en el amor divino, podemos ayudar a
propagar por todas partes la vida de la gracia y
la buena noticia de la Salvación.
El amor que recibimos por ser hijos de Dios es
tan dinámico que escapa a nuestra
comprensión humana. Cuánto nos ama el
Padre ! Dios mismo estará con ellos como su
Dios y secará todas las lagrimas de nuestros
ojos. Que mas podemos pedir ? Qué otra cosa
hay tan sublime como la vivencia del amor de
Dios? Los apóstoles conocían este amor y se
dedicaron a predicar acerca de Jesús,
entregando su vida para la Salvación de
muchos otros.
En efecto, lo que nos distingue como hijos de
Dios es el amor con que tratamos a los demás;
no los privilegios sociales, el poder, la
influencia, y ni siquiera una conducta perfecta.

Cuando nos amamos los unos a los otros, nos
vamos pareciendo a Jesús. Estemos, pues,
dispuestos a tratar a los demás con la misma
caridad y bondad , para que el amor de Cristo
fluya entre los creyentes , incluso cuando nos
enfrentemos al rechazo o la persecución. En
todas estas cosas nos vamos asemejando a
Jesús, la más grande fuente de amor que
jamás ha conocido el mundo.

Nuestra Parroquia San Atanasio cuenta con la
Academia elemental donde tenemos clases
para niños de todas las edades a partir de los
18 meses.
Contamos con el programa Mami y yo a partir
de los 18 meses (programa que comienza el
22 de Febrero) .
Ademas del programa de
Guarderia para niños a partir de los 3 años .
A partir de los 4 años tenemos clases
disponibles desde Pre– Kinder hasta grado 8º.
Todos los niños de nuestra Escuela cuenta
con la posibilidad de aplicar a ayuda financiera
de acuerdo a las necesidades de cada hogar y
así lograr la oportunidad de una Educación con

Brooklyn’s 149th Kings County Memorial Day Parade
Call to march. All members of the parish are invited and all Veterans are encouraged to join their
brothers and sisters-in-arms and march on May 30th in the 149th Kings County Memorial Day Parade, which will kick off promptly at 11AM at Third Ave. and 75th St. The route will go along Third
Ave. to Marine Ave., up to Fourth Ave. and over to John Paul Jones Park for a memorial service immediately following the parade in honor of all who lost their lives in selfless service to our country.
Veterans do not have to belong to a Veteran Service Organization to march. Planning meetings will
be held at the US Army Garrison Fort Hamilton Chapel, building 219 on Apr. 18 at 11AM and
May 17 at 6:30PM.

Deadline to march is May 7 . If you plan on marching you should attend one of the meetings.

door for us to meet, know & walk with Christ in our everyday lives.

Rosary Society
The Rosarians welcome all women of the Parish. The Society is dedicated to the Blessed Mother, the growth of the
love of God through Mary. We honor the Blessed Mother by
the constant and reverent praying of the rosary in our daily
life.
We are involved in all Parish activities, liturgical and social –
and keep informed about civic community activities.
Spiritual activities include an Annual Retreat, Annual Communion Breakfast and Baby Shower for Unwed Mothers.
The Society raises money to help our Church continue outreach efforts. The fundraisers include: Christmas Fair, Basket Night, Chinese Auction.
We attend the 10:00am Mass on the Third Sunday of the
month (except July & August) followed by a meeting & light
breakfast in the School.

Holy Name Society
New members are welcome to help with our community
service work. The Society is a spiritual organization, a
fraternity of the Catholic Church, spreading devotion to
the Name of Jesus. Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow!
The present Holy Name Society members dedicate themselves to corporal works in helping our Parish Organizations and School, with various fundraising. The Holy
Name meets every second Sunday of each month (after
the 10 a.m. Mass), except for July & August.
Men of all ages are welcome, especially the fathers of
